Why doesn't nintendo wii play MOVIES???

Why Can't you watch Movies on nintendo wii??? That sucks.
I got this new movie from universal called Cougar Club, which i really wanted to watch, but i couldn't because of the nintendo wii not being able to play movies!.
For a game system they should of made it dvd play able.!
But anyways I ended up watching it off my xbox and it was an awesome movies if anyones interested!
Its just like American Pie and Super Bad!
It's funny as hell, i think it's coming out in November...
