Now this is something I'd like to see in action.

Yeah... minus the normal maps and HDR. Should also note that Bethesda customized the Gamebryo engine heavily. I'd like to hear what kind of technologies Emergent was able to get to run properly on the Wii.

Well we'll see I am not expecting the more advanced DX9 effects to be available on the Wii version, but maybe Emergent is a coding god.

And to get it to work well, the draw distance will be 12 inches from your characters nose, but you will get 30 fps at this point.

I guess then games will have to stand up on gameplay alone. But if normal maps and HDR are what makes games good, then that's seriously effed up.

The Wii can do normal mapping (http://wii.ign.com/articles/760/760682p1.html). The original Xbox could do normal mapping, from what I've read. I don't see why the Wii can't.

I think perhaps people underestimate the Wii's hardware slightly. Of course it's not as powerful as the 360 or PS3, but to hear people talk about it you would think it they were talking about the Amiga 500. It's not quite THAT weak.

but it's not a 360 or PS3 either...just playing devils advocate. Metroid 3 makes it clear that the Wii is a capable machine all right, at times Twilight impressed me, at other times I had to look away...

No argument here, however many of the glaringly ugly games on the Wii were the result of third parties porting over PSP and PS2 titles to the Wii with little to no improvements. As you said, games like Metroid, which were built to take advantage of the console's hardware, proves that the Wii can stand on its own feet.

Ah my bad then so it can do normal maps. I should have gone further down the tech tree and noted parallax/displacement mapping and stuff, hehe. Well anyway you know what I mean I doubt the heavier effects can run but you never know.
