It's up on PSN. Downloaded it and played through both characters' parts. It's pretty fun. Rather linear, in the vein of FFX (same minimap and everything), but the combat is more action than RPG. You basically fight these "folks" and collect their "ids". When you collect enough of one type of folk you can use it to attack for you (each folk has a different attack type). Some folks are only vulnerable to certain types of attacks, so you have to use different attacks when fighting different folks. The bosses are huge, but are more of a puzzle rather than a fight to the death. You have to figure out which folks will hurt it, and in which order do you use them. They're plenty entertaining though, and they will hurt you if you let them.

My one issue with the game is the camera...it gets pretty wonky more often than not, especially in combat with a bunch of enemies. Even if you're locked onto an enemy the camera has a tendency to slide to one side or the other until the enemy is right at the edge of your screen, rendering the rest of your screen useless. The graphics are pretty trippy though. Great art design, and nice particle effects, and the character designs are just straight up wacky, but still awesome.

I'll have to read more on this game, but right now I'm on the fence, and I have absolutely no idea which way I'll tip. On the one hand the game is fun, but it could get repetitive, since it's basically "use this attack to kill this enemy", so there's no room for experimentation, and the combat could end up being rather stale.

Also, this demo is completely different from the Japanese demo in terms of which areas they give you to explore. It's also much longer then the Japanese demo.

I downloaded the demo this morning, and finally got to play a few minutes. I thought the game was fun overall. I didn't play long enough to get to the boss (probably will do that this weekend), but long enough to get a feel for the combat and using the sixaxis to absorb souls.

I consider this game way more playable than FFX (or any typical JRPG), so that's a comparision I'm not even seeing.

I was already leaning towards getting the game, and after playing the demo, I'm certain I will. I'll either get it straight out of a store, or wait until a certain store has a buy 2, get 1 free deal during October (the game's release month) or November.

It's an impressive demo, for sure. Battle system wise it reminds me of Galerians:Ash on the PS2 some years back. Trippy visuals, bizarre concept, I may pick it up. Next week, tho, I'm heading to the store for the robot battles on the PS3 (Gundam...)

One thing, tho. Sony is pimping the frikkin' shakeable controller thing waaayyy too much, IMO. Piyotami, sure, it shakes the eggs around, so it makes sense. But in Folklore it's a PITA.

Something about the overall vibe in this game reminded me of an old Ps1 platformer called Akuji: The Heartless.

Not sure why. . . .not much similar, probably just a flashback. Anyway, pretty cool demo. Very different and unusual game. Visually cool as hell, seemed like it might get really repetitive. Also was pretty easy; seemed like you could just pretty much blast your way through the demo using the fat Folk with the cannon.

Folklore is the 2nd title where I liked the use of the Sixaxis (the first one was College Hoops 2k7, shooting free throws). Now, shaking the controller in Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a bit too much.

I guess I don't have that same feeling of possible repetitiveness since I rarely play only one game at a time, from start to finish. That's probably the reason why I don't always finish games, either.

I thought about Gundam, but I may end up waiting on it until a slow period next year. I did enjoy the demo, though.

I also like shooting free-throws in NBA2K7 with the motion-sense. It's also OK in games like COD3 and RFoM where you have to shake off the enemy.

I imagine it'll be used also in games like Resident Evil 5 if an enemy gets hold of you, similar to in RE4 how you have to shake the left analog stick around.

Sixaxis so far seems gimmicky to me; I've heard the Wii called "gimmicky" too but its an actual precise, fully functional motion control system. So far, the Ps3 hasn't really delivered on Six-axis potential, and I'm not sure it works well enough to be delivered on. It's great in things like the little puzzle game "Super Rub a Dub" but it seems to be at the core of problems with games like Lair.

Folklore, I agree was a decent implentation, yanking the folks souls out was a cool kind of yanking-back fishing type motion, but it could as easily been done with thumbsticks, and the thing is. . . with motion control, force-feedback is even more essential, because the whole point of motion control is immersion, and while tugging at the soul (or fish if that were the case) you want to feel the creature struggle at the end of the line (or energy beam.)

I enjoyed the yanking of souls, especially trying to get the bigger Folk's souls. It took me 5 attempts to get the Ogme (looks and charges like a bull) soul. I kept yanking at the wrong times, and ended up killing the enemy the first 4 times. I did end up finishing Ellen's part of the demo. The boss felt easy, but that was partly because of the big hint about defeating it. I hope the final version doesn't have that many hints about the bosses, or at least make the hints harder to find.

The way the sixaxis is used in COD3 annoys me. I don't know why.

I'm predicting a Lair demo next Thursday.

I'm predicting a Lair demo next Thursday.

I would be all over that...mainly because I'm not buying the game. I just wanna see what all the hype is about.

Don't you mean negativity?:D

When does Lair come out, anyway? I would get it if it came out before the demo, and will get it even after, as long as it doesn't totally blow donkey balls, which in all reality, I'm sure it doesn't.

And I'd still rather have rumble over motion-sensing, unless they actually start making some original games for it, that aren't half-assed. The true test will be here when Lair comes out, since it's based on the Six-Axis. Maybe a new Mercury?

I don't think I've bought into the hype of the game (or any, really), but I guess the hype is supposed to be about the use of the Sixaxis controls. I was kind of hoping for a Drakan-type of game at first, where the pilot can do some of his own fighting on foot, but it's all about the dragons. From what I have seen so far, it looks like it could be a fun game, even though I didn't care for any of the devs Star War games for the Gamecube.

I think Lair is supposed to ship on Sep 4 or 5, but at last check, I've seen the date on Gamestop.com as early as 8/30.

Man, I need to download it along with many other mini games I said i would. It's just that school has started and i've been really busy with it. It feels that I have less and less time to play games at this point. I wonder if I'll get to finish person 3 any time soon :(

and i have most of you on my friendlist and how come I dont' ever see any of you online?!

I think one problem with the sixaxsis is just the simple fact that people are doing something different with a controller that's remained basically unchanged since it's inception. People are most comfortable with it in their lap and doing otherwise just creates a negative impression. That said, it does feel a bit gimmicky. Motion control is the Wii's primarily function. With the PS3 controller, yeah it does have a tendency to feel artificial, or tacked on.

Folkfore struck me as Alice in Wonderland on crack so the concept is interesting. I wasn't crazy about the combat so the gameplay didn't pull me in but I only played it for a few minutes. I'll give it another go.

I work 4pm-midnight and it's rare I get on in the day, so usually I'm on after midnight.

I tried Folklore again and my main problem is this is not a rpg. I'm not sure where I got the impression that it was. Getting past that I was able to enjoy it for what it is, a 3rd person action adventure. It reminds me of Primal a little bit. Ripping out the souls of foreign life forms and making them do my bidding is oddly satisfying. It's a fun game though I wasn't really feeling the Pokemon vibe. It didn't make me wanna buy it though. And what's up with no voice acting? I hope it doesn't release that way.

Speaking of 3rd person AA, I see Alone in the Dark screens on gamespot. Yay! Hopefully it'll rinse the taste of the DC game out of my mouth. It wasn't bad. It just had some gameplay imbalances and the ending was obviously rushed and or incomplete. It had the right vibe. AITD really deserves a sequel. And uh, I don't mention the movie.

I saw you online.....once. It was early in the morning, probably around the time Heavenly Sword demo was available.

I'm usually not online with the PS3 during the week, except for Thursday nights or Friday morning (early) to download from the PSN. If I decide to get Warhawk (still want to play it but still unsure), then I'll be online more.

I'm pretty sure Folklore does have voice acting, though only in the cutscenes maybe. I've seen some beautiful cutscenes with some good voice acting too.

I've seen a few people online with the PS3, but I don't know what the PSN etiquette is, so I don't really do anything. I also only go online to either a) check if there are any new demos, b) to play the demos I have, or c) to stream media from my computer. So I figure even if I did contact someone we wouldn't play any games, so I just let them enjoy whatever they're playing.

Online etiquette is, if you see someone online and want to play with them, send them an invite, if you see someone online and want to send a message(this one, they don't even need to be online), then send a message. If they accept/reply, then cool, if they decline/don't reply, then cool. I've yet to use my crusty old PS2 headset for my PS3, so I don't know if that works, or how well, but I'm guessing you can send voice messages as well?

Well, I am getting warhawk this weekend. I guess let's play if any of you got the game. 60 bucks is a pretty sh1tty price though for a game under 1 gig :(

I'll play Warhawk, Folken. With the Holiday weekend, I should be online....depending on what college football games are going to be on.

Football season is where gaming takes a beating for me. It's hard to keep the controller in hand on Sundays, and more difficult on Saturdays.

I'm thinking about getting this game, and getting the retail version so I can score the headset instead of my crappy PS2 usb headset.

Now that I have no Wii for Corruption. *sniff*

You can always find me on aim. It's easier that way than trying to catch me on PS3. I am having a problem with my network currently. when my laptop is on, my PS3 has the hardest time to get online. Don't know why and won't have time to find out until this weekend. I should have the game by friday night. i am not buying it until the weekend or it's going to hurt my studying.

@ CK: If you try hard enough, you should find one no problem. I have gone in my local EBs and find them ready to be bought on several occasions. I think you just need to establish a good communication with the employees there and be there when they say shipments would be arriving. Wii is still popular but it's not as hard to find one as when it first came out, that's for sure.
