View Full Version : Castlevania: Lament of Innocence Impressions

I picked up Castlevania and have played about 30 minutes so far. This is what I can say about the game so far:
-The graphics are impressive
-the controls are precise
-the voices do not seem to fit the characters
-Leon's hair needs cutting, or something
-so far, there isn't many breakable objects. I was hoping to tear some
rooms up
-the whip reminds me of Rygar's Diskarmor, but you can't grab an enemy and swing him like in Rygar, maybe later in the game though
-so far, I haven't had problems with the camera
-Leon has a funky animation (or lack of) when he uses his whip to grab hold of poles
That's about all I can say about the game so far, since I'm just beginning. I really think reviewers were comparing this to Symphony of the Night, since the same guy, IGA, worked on both. To me, it's an unfair comparison, since this is probably his first 3D game (he had nothing to do with the abominations that were the Castlevanias on N64.

I still think this game would've been a lot better had it been 2.5-D. But oh well.

Well, I totally applaud konami for putting Japanese voice track in it. I think that's awesome. So far, I have only one complain. That is the camera angle. It is not a big deal but it's just kinda annoying sometimes that you can't see what is coming at ya.
Overall, this game is cool....
Next, I'll tell you what I think of Ninja Turtle and the new Macross game on PS2 soon. :)
P.S Has anyone played crouching tiger hidden dragon yet?

The camera angle reminds me of Capcom games, but just a little better.
Do you think there's a chance there will be another Castlevania made for the PS2, possibly using the same engine? I would like to see IGA make a "Symphony of the Night II" with Alucard using this engine.
As far as Crouching Tiger, I haven't played it, but one of the things I heard/read that was good about the game was the blocking. That may not be saying a lot though.

Actually, that's an interesting question. I don't know. PS3 is coming out soon ad isn't one of the developers are already making games for it? I would love to hvae a Symphony of the Night 2.
By the way, what is so good about blocking in CTHD?

I think THQ is supposed to be making games for the PS3 already. I'm not sure if they already have those kits for the PS3 , or are doing all of the pre-coding stuff for any games for the PS3.
About the blocking on CTHD, here's what Gamespot says about it:
None of the combat is especially innovative, except for one key feature: the combo blocking. The movie's fight sequences were complexly designed by famous fight choreographer Wo Ping Yuen, and in an attempt to mimic his uniquely designed fights, Genki has designed a complementary blocking system that lets you duck, dodge, and flip around enemy attacks by pressing the block button in conjunction with a flashing icon that appears near your life meter. The moves you can pull off are actually quite cool, but the problem with the system is that there's no real challenge to it. The rhythm and pacing of all the combo blocking is exactly the same, no matter who you're fighting against. All you have to do is figure out the right tempo for hitting the block button once, and that's pretty much all she wrote. Still, to Genki's credit, at least it's a cool idea.

When I was very little, I played Castlevania on the SNES and I loved Symphony of the Night on the Lamestation. I guess I just like those games better. I was never big on 3D games like Jak and Daxter, Castlevania, for me, is more fun leaving it without being 3D. I'm having fun with it, but I had more fun the old way how they used to make it.
