Lair Delayed
The dragon's running late.
by Ryan Clements

August 1, 2007 - The official Sony PlayStation blog reported today that Lair, originally scheduled to be released on August 14, has been delayed until September 4.

According to Ryan Hamlyn's post, an issue arose during QA testing regarding the game's various online features, including leaderboards and its medal systems. Hopefully, this delay ultimately means good things for Lair, since such an eagerly anticipated game should, ideally, be as polished as possible before release. But anyone interested in engaging in dragon warfare has to wait another month for Factor 5 to complete its upcoming title.

We'll report back if any information changes.

Well, this sucks. Online features, what a load of crap. If the game isn't online multiplayer, are these leaderboards really even necessary? I think Factor 5 should have just scrapped the leaderboard and medal system stuff, until a possible sequel, and just get the rest of the game out. Now, instead of the game kind of having a month to itself (as far as 1st party titles), it's stepping all on Heavenly Sword's release day.

Well, they probably wanted to make the game better.

I honestly don't know what to think of this game. The trailers looked good but I really aren't a big fan of games like that. That's why I never played rogue Squadron even though so many praised it. I am trying to best Sigma soon so I can sell this game. I can' see why so many loved this game to death. I don't think I will play it again after I beat it. I hate fighting against worms. :(

I love it so much that I just bought it again. If I would've known you were gonna get rid of yours, I would've scored it from you.

And worms are stupid.

As far as Lair delayed, I don't think they'll be able to refine any of the possible control issues or anything. Just the online portions, which in a game like this, seem a bit unnecessary. Unless it's set up so where you can do kill combos and such to rack up the score. Like Sigma. Even still though, I don't play these games to get high scores, despite how it may appear that way for my LA leaderboards.:D

What makes you love the game so much? I am really confused. I mean the game looks pretty but it's just not fun trying to go through all problematic issues with the game. The story is downright crappy. Camera is still awkward. Most of the comboes are useless in multiple enemies situation. This is all I do. I use dragon sword or the double sword. Then, I just do. I do the command jump or regular jump then roll on the floor with L1 then jump again to get closer. Then I do forward jump then do the instant air slash, then do it like 100 times over and over. That's the safest way to kill any enemy or many enemies. Regular enemies get their head chop off in 3 hits.

Worms are ok when u have that huge a$$ sword. I just charge then release when it's coming at me. I am on chapter 17 at the moment. I am almost done!

I never had issues with the camera in NG. Sure, there are somtimes you can't see behind you, but that seems realistic to me. You can still hear what's going on and react to it.

I played the Heavenly Sword Demo, not really all that stoked. Like FPS, button heavy action games are not normally at the top of my list. Ninja Gaiden, yeah, crappy ridiculous story but it was just so damned badass fun.

Do you like any of these types of games, like DMC3 and God of War? With the exception of God of War and a little bit for DMC3(not as much because of real-time weapon switching), there is such a large moves list that you're really only limited by your technique and sense of fighting style. Sure, you can jump-slash or UT enemies all day, but that doesn't mean the game was meant to be played that way. If it was, they would've only given you one attack and no alternate throwing weapons. The only move I spam is the counter-attack for the Dabilahro, and that's only when I go for karma points.

If you let the game alone at the title screen till it starts showing a little bit of gameplay, you'll see solid examples of the variety of the fighting engine.

Another thing, the enemies change with each difficulty. They get harder to hit, and the moves list changes up a bit, so one tech that worked before on the easier enemies won't automatically work on enemies on Hard or Very Hard or Master Ninja - if they have it here. It seems that this game was made a little easier. I liked it before when you had to tap a button to walk on water.

And Heavenly Sword is going to rule the roost. The fighting is already better than GoW from the small demo I've played. The music also reminds me of Otogi. Otogi 2, now there's a game that deserves, no demands, a next-gen version or sequel.

Well, I beat both God of War 1 and 2 and I beat both DMC1 and 2. I couldn't beat DMC3 because it's hard and I get annoyed by it. So I would say that I do enjoy these kinds of games. Like I said though NG does have a lot of moves but the situations that are presented to you kinda limits of your move lists. Sometimes you can do it for fun but a lot of times you can't when you are in those 100 monster slaying mini games, you really have no choice but to use what's most effective or regret the fact you didn't and do it all over again.

The hardest fight I've had by far is the challenge I had with Rachel. You have to kill 60+ of them. Then they come at you as a group of 2 fiends and a magma dino thingy. The two fiends put you in block stunt or even break your block while the magma dino grabs u or roll on you. I had to redo that fight multiple times.

I just barely beat that part a couple of minutes ago! It was a little frustrating, and I had to do it a few times before beating it. Rachel's just too slow.

I fought those ghost fishes today. Man......they are annoying.

Anyone downloaded the GRAW2 demo or Darkness Demo today?

I kind of like how easy it is to walk on water now. I never been able to do it in the original NG, so it's something I missed out on. Honestly, though, it serves very little purpose besides finding a power up or fighting a couple of enemies in the expanded "under water" level. Other than that, and the fact that there's less Rachel levels than I was expecting, the Sigma is great.

I haven't downloaded either demos. I have The Darkness, and I played GRAW 2 already. Still, the single player level on the demo (from what I read) is one of the levels that I enjoyed, so I may download it just to play again.

Since Lair isn't multiplayer, the only thing that would make since with online is downloadable content. Leaderboards are lame. I haven't paid attention to those since I used to play arcade games a long time ago.

Leaderboards are lame. I haven't paid attention to those since I used to play arcade games a long time ago. I think that's why I dig leaderboards, because of the old-school feel I get when trying to beat someone else's scores. Especially in the Live Arcade games.
