I played Rebel Strike today and I have to say 8.3 from IGN is being too nice. I liked it, it's very good overall, but I feel like I've been here done that on the old game. When I finally managed to get to the part where you walk around on foot, it looks really good, but it's not really fun to play and they made it to hard to aim at the bad guys. I died like 20 times without knowing what to do. The best part I liked is the new vehicles you could ride in and that made it more fun than the orginal. The graphics are great, great sound if you like orchestras and the actors voices are pretty good. But they still aren't using real voices from the movies, Harrison Ford needs to be heard. Rats. The kewlies thing I liked is the 2 player mode that lets you play through the entire first game Rogue Leader with 2 players! I really don't know how the squeezed that game on here too because I'm still deep in to rebel Strike.
Okay, overall, it's fun, but you're not going to like the parts when you have to be on foot. If you didn't play the first one, you'll definitely like this one just as much, but it still is very similar to the original. Kisses.

Hey Alli!
I still can't understand why people are criticizing this game so much. It seems to me like Factor 5 could have just used the exact same gameplay and ships as in RS2 just adding new missions, the 2 player co-op and multiplayer mode and still receive relatively favorable reviews. Are the graphics and sound not as good as that in RS2? To me complaining about the small percentage of "on foot" missions isn't justification to give the game such poor review. Perhaps I will rent this game to find out for myself. Did you just not find it fun? Is there any other noticeable flaw (aside from the on foot missions)?

Small percentage of on-foot missions? Here is my take on the game-from someone who bought it yesterday when it was first released.
This game perpetrates the "mortal sin" of gaming that Gamecube is supposedly immune to: Long load times. Yes, you too will sit through a black screen for several seconds every couple of minutes while the Gamecube spins the little Rebel Strike disc. I don't know why, but the game will be running a cut-scene and then go to a loading screen...only to continue the cut-scene! Why? The cut-scenes end jarringly is the best way I could put it. In Rogue Leader the cut-scene & music would fade out and then you would start playing. In Rebel Strike, they just end abruptly and quite annoyingly.
The first mission you play is a Yavin mission right after the Death Star is destroyed. You have to fend off Imperial troop carries and landers which is pretty decent. Then....you have to go on a "on-foot" mission to rescue some rebels in a temple. The targetting system is total crap. You run down the same-exact-looking corridors forever, following the on-screen compass. Most doors will automatically open for you, but a few you have to wiggle the C-stick. Why not just use the otherwise unused B-button? You will know you have found the rebels when you enter a large room full of Stormtroopers that you cannot properly target. Mash the crap out of the A-button to kill them while running around. Oh yeah, Wedge is right behind you providing cover fire that never kills any bad guys.
Find the rebels after defeating all of the Stormtroopers and then run down some more hallways. Enter another large room full of Stormtroopers that continue to appear off-screen like magic just to give you a challenge.
Then the next mission has you riding a Speeder Bike until you reach an Imperial Personell carrier with a Rebel Spy being held captive. Then guess what? You are on-foot again! Run along with Luke whining "I can't let that carrier escape!" over and over again until you reach an Imperial mounted gun. Kill the bad guys (2-3 running around shooting but missing you) and start blasting the troop carrier with your spy inside. I guess it is supposed to be challenging, but your gun turrent annoyingly re-centers itself automatically. The ship will conveniently stop for a few seconds for you to blast away at it before moving on. Then, you have to run to the next conveniently placed gun turret that the ship conveniently flies to and then stops again. Luke will whine some more and you have to repeat the process over from the last stop. After you do this several times, the ship will crash and your spy buddy will magically appear! But...what happened to the Imperial troops that were onboard with him? And what happened to his restraints he was wearing when they put him onboard?
Now we get to fly Speeder Bikes again! And guess what, you are flying down dark trenches and can hardly maneuver or slow down! What fun! Now pay attention: Small & Medium sized rocks protruding from the water aren't a problem-your Speeder will magically fly right through them! But look out for the bigger ones, they will make you crash!
This game is undeserving of anything more than a 7/10 and that's being generous. It seems to me to be a rushed out the door hacked piece of crap. Truly, a waste of money. So don't say g@mer that there are a "few" on-foot missions when every other stinking mission is on-foot!

Well, speaking as somebody who also bought it already, it isn't any secret that the on-foot segments suck. But they are tolerable - I haven't been killed as a result of their tomfoolery. It's harsh to judge the game poorly, just based on the on-foot portions.
So, you don't even like the flight missions? Have you tried the multiplayer yet?
I had an absolute blast with the multiplayer, the other night.

Is this a System Wars forum type post? Could it have been posted here by mistake? I've moved it to General.

G@mer, you asked if I liked it? I like the game overall, I played it some more this afternoon. The targeting on the game is very hard to master, flying and walking ,they are both hard, I wish there was an auto-target thingamagig. But overall, it's very fun and is one of the better Gamecube games. Star Wars fan definitely will love it.

People look for different things in games. It's the principle of exposure: someone who is young will enjoy smoking more than someone who is old. People who have never played a video game, won't be so critical, whereas, you guessed it ... the old are exposed. I say love it for what it is and not hate it for what it ain't.

Is it the issue of "No weapon lock" under 3 meters that made foot missions difficult?

Yes-the on-foot missions are "tolerable." But for one of the very best series out there and probably the second-biggest holiday push title for Gamecube, it's a huge dissapointment. I haven't died "on-foot" yet, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
The first mission on Yavin drew me in and I was saying to myself "This game is bad-ass!" Then....sigh....on-foot "tomfoolery" began and I was  and :o.
According to reviews I have read and things of that nature-the on-foot missions make up a little over a third of the game. The load-times and jarring in and out of cut-scenes annoys the crap out of me. I haven't tried the Rogue Leader co-op mode yet, but it sure isn't going to make up for the crappy missions in Rebel Strike. I've been looking forward to this title since it was announced and maybe I was just a little too hyped for it.
The best way for me to describe how this game ticks me off is this: Have you seen American Pie? The scene at the beginning when Jim is watching the "illegal channels?" He's all into his groove, then the guy on the screen says "Spank my hairy ass." Jim looks disgusted and says "Would ya shut up?" That's what the on foot missions do to me. Pull you right out of the mood.

IM NOT AN EXPERT, but the on foot mode is very hard. If you have to turn around the camera still faces forward, unless you can change the view I haven't found it yet. The target simply locks on to who it wants to, you don't have the ability to change who it's targeting, it's very annoying and if this alone would have been fixed, I would have given this game a 10. Kisses.

Yeah, I hear ya'. I'm starting to get more annoyed at the "on-foot" sections - not because I keep getting killed, but because they make it really difficult to get higher than bronze medals. Seeing as that you need to get medals to unlock the "secret" stuff, I might have to rely on using the dreaded passcode if it becomes apparant that the "on-foot" stuff makes it impossible to get gold medals.
I still think the vehicle based portions are "bad-ass", so it really is the "on-foot" stuff that sour the experience.

I'm right there with you. Rebel Strike has been on my "drool" list since I heard about it earlier this year. So it's a bitter disappointment to me too, the more I think about it. I will say this, though, the only level with the sketchy cut-scenes is the first level (at least that I've seen so far). Every other level I've played after it, the cut-scenes don't have that annoying "black screen" between each segment, like on the first level. So that, at least, gets better.
One thing, I think since I did have a chance to play the multiplayer, it makes me happier as a whole about the game. Single-player game to single-player game, Rogue Leader is superior to Rebel Strike. But that dang multiplayer is really the "saving grace" of Rebel Strike. Without that mulitplayer stuff, Rebel Strike really would be the "biggest disappointment in video game history".

Actually, I've never seen American Pie. Now I especially don't want to see it. :D

So many of you guys thought this game was going to be THE biggest action game of 2003.Boy werent you guys duped.I played a little bit of RS III.Loved the flying missions, but the on foot thing should've been left out all together.I dont know how they can make this type of game and not have Luke fighting Darth Vader.Like Allisen said you get a feeling been there, done that when you play it.It was nothing new nor was it over and beyond what the last one brought to the table either.
Plus I couldnt help but say WTF when the"Saturday Night Fever" intro came on with the Star War Characters dancing to the music before the game started. That was the icing on the cake for me.Thank god for the PS2 and the Xbox.Thats all I got to say about that.
