Cuddly Knife

System - It's huge! I do like the color and shininess, though.
System menu/option/misc. - Like the PSP, it looks slick, but I'm really bummed that there is no blade funtion when you're in a game. Downloads don't give you a pop-up when they're done, until you exit the game you're playing. The pop-up box when a friend jumps on is also too big. Maybe there's a way to shrink it? Also, what's the deal with music and custom soundtracks. It's not an option on the PS3, right?
I'm also spoiled by Achievements. They show what your fellow gamers have done and are doing. Hopefully Home will give me something good to look foward to
Controller - Quite simply, a piece of sh!t. It's too light. It hurts my hands and wrists during extended plays because of the placement of the two analog sticks. The sticks themselves feel weaker, and don't have the same grip and sensitivity as the Dual Shock, making me always having to re-adjust my thumbs. The cord for charging the Six Axis is way to short. I don't think there's an option for a wired controller, right? And last but most certainly first in dissapointment, no rumble. That'll be cured though.
Games - Turismo is same old. I've only played it once, and even that one time I turned it off before I could finish. Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo is Black with shinier graphics. Seeing this game says a lot for the Xbox versions level of excellence. Heavenly Sword is good, but hopefully they fix up the framerate. Come on, if Ninja Gaiden Sigma, God of War 2, and DMC3/4 can do it, so can you.
Motorstorm - This game just might have the worst racing engine ever in a 3-D extreme racing game. The vehicle physics are just too floaty and sensitive. I've seen the Big Rigs fly just as high as the buggies and bikes. If you don't hit your car just right, it takes far too long to crash. Your car could flip and take up to 10 seconds to respawn, and if you're lucky, a grip of cars won't be slamming into you, extending that crash sequence for up to half a minute! I kid you not, it has happened to me a t leat 5 times since I started playing this game a few days ago. The cars are all so dreadfully slow. Online fixes this slightly by giving you lots of boost ability, but only if you're behind in the race. I don't mind that part much, though, because it's very Excite Bike-ish. The tracks are decent enough, but with only eight of them, they get a little bit old in a hurry. Hopefully we'll get some DLC to cure that ill. The graphics are also a mixed bag. Most textures are bleh, and the cars are also weak in detail. The crashes are not as impressive as Burnout Revenge. The mud and track deformation is nice. I think this game is deserving of the lower end of scores it's recieved from critics. And my views mention nothing(until now) of the lack of modes or general variety that should come in these types of games. DiRT kills this game in every way, except for online multi-player.
If anyone still cares or doesn't know about how they actually did the track deformation(Renz maybe?), it's the very same technique used in DOA/Virtua Fighter series for when they battle on snow and it seems to smash when characters walk over it. They must've just added a watery-looking texture underneath somewhere to give it more effect. It's well-executed, until you see it in slo-mo, then you can notice how cheesy it really is, because mud isn't actually getting pushed aside or anything. While going fast, it looks great though.
Final comment -- If this would've been my first next-gen system, I would've been more impressed with the overall package, but the 360 really gives you so much more in the way of functionality and general user-friendliness, plus it has a grip of great games that are on par or surpass the PS3 in quality. And PSN barely matches what Xbox Live did on the original Xbox five years ago. Sony's dedication towards supporting a system for more than five years will have me looking foward to tons of great games throughout its lifespan, and with the eventual release of Home, I look foward to having more of a community setting beyond what MS has done with their online network, but as of right now, the 360 kicks its ass in just about every way, except for the advantages of Blue-Ray and large hdd for it's standard sku.
Thank you for your time.
