There's nothing about it on the playstation site so I guess it arrived earlier than usual. The biggest deal is custom backgrounds ala PSP and chat emoticons. I'm sure there's some stuff there tho.

Downloaded it this morning. Only took 6 minutes to download and 3 to install.
One of the benefits of version 1.9 in addition to what Tashi mentioned above is that you no longer have to plug in your controller after each system update (via the provided USB cable). You can now install the updates and restart the system without that extra step.

I thought I read about this somewhere, but forgot to come back to post.
Is this the update where you can eject a game with the controller now?

Yes, but I haven't tried it yet to confirm.

You can indeed eject games with the controller. At first, I thought it would be by the PS button, but you actually hit the triangle button to do it, instead of hitting X to start the game.
Nice update. I hope the 360 Fall Update gets something similar, because I think that eject button will wear out at some point in time.

You can eject a game on the 360 by highlighting it on the bottom of the screen and hitting A while in the dashboard. Or are you referring to having a button mapped on the controller to do so? To me it makes no difference as long as you can do it using the controller.
I like this option on the PS3 because ejecting discs is really the only time I have to put my grubby fingers on the console. I prefer having the whole unit shiny black and free of fingerprints. Kind of like fingers prints on a shiny black DS. I always wipe mine down after each use (the DS not the PS3) because I don't like the mucked up with finger prints look.

Everytime I highlight a game in the dashboard on 360 and hit "A", it starts playing the game. Do you have to do something else while highlighting the game while in the dashboard to make it eject?
I agree with you about no fingerprints on the PS3. I only want to touch the system when I need to lift it to dust underneath, and to turn the switch in the back on/off.

When I fired up my PS3 to Dl the stuff, it took a total of 25 minutes. What else did I get that wouldn't have been on the PS3 if I hadn't updated it? And would you have to udate the PS3 to play more current games, like the PSP?
And on the 360, I think you can only close the disc tray with the controller, but not open it.
There are a number of things from the 360 that I'd like to see on PS3, like being able to send messages when in the middle of a game. Just the whole functionality of the 360 blade kills the PS3 functionality. You can do anything on it, but the PS3 can't do sh!t, unless I'm missing something.

Sorry, my bad. You can only eject the tray through the dashboard when there is no disc in it.

No problem. Hopefully, that's something that will be handled in the next big update.

If certain games needs to be updated, it should be on the disc (like 360 games) if you don't have the latest update. I did a few updates like that before I got my trial of broadband.
It does suck when you do want to play a new game right away, and have to do the update before you can hit the start button on the title screen.
