The FF 11 game bundled in with the Sony Hard Drive will cost you $99 bucks plus tax. Then you have to pay for a network adaptor.(If you dont have one already) And then you have to pay the online monthly fee.And the finishing touch to it all you have to pay for each character you create on the game as well. The best advice that I can give you if you must have this game? Buy it on the PC.Cheaper and much easier to handle.

From what I know is that you get FF11 for free with the hard drive. Also the hard drive has the FF11 per-downloaded on it. But from what I have seen with my friends on the PC is thatyou automaticaly get 1 month free to test it out and my friends havn't paid a dime. They have been playing for more then 2 months. If this helps at all.

Here's the best info you're going to get on this game:
1. It's freakin' expensive. The inventors of this game are practically gold-mining with this game. First of all, you have to pay for the game itself. I got the PC version, which, in my point of view, is much better if you have a good PC, because you're gonna need a TON of add-ons for the PS2 version. After that, you get one month free of charge to play as much as you want and see if you really like this game or not. After that, it costs about $12 a month. Twelve bucks ain't much, though, but you also have to pay for a bunch of other stuff, including an extra dollar per character.
Seriously, one character is enough, though. Just make it good from the start, because one character is more than enough to last you (unless if you want to try out different races... but in all honesty, the only significant differences are slightly different strengths along with the appearances.
2. More on characters. Like I said, most significant features were slightly different stats (ex. Galkas, huge hulking muscle-bound bipedal creatures, have higher health and strength stats than other races depending on their levels, while Mithras, which look like any cat-girl seen on any anime show, have higher speed ratings in combat).
More on the appearances. Anybody can customize and create a character, however customization isn't exactly high. After picking your gender race (some races only have one gender), there are about ten different types of characters to chose from, each one with their own completely different look. Then you get to pick a type of the type of characters you chose (that's right.... for each style you made your character, you get an optional yet similar look.... such as either blonde or black hair, however both are in the same style).
However, you can't customize each part of your character separately, such as picking hair colour, eye colour, hair style, facial features, and other things separately like that. It's like as if for each race you have a bunch of characters to chose from, you don't really create your own.
What really bugs me about characters, however, is that for all the races with more than one gender, you can usually hardly tell the difference between the two genders. Seriously, like many other Final Fantasy games, the guys don't come very manly unless you take the ones with beards. This especially goes for the elves. The male elves have very... profound chests..... I guess it's gotta do something with the length of their bodies as well as having some muscle there. The female elves, however..... they aren't really as... big.... to make much of a difference from what the men have. You practically have to look at the character models from all sides before finally making a definite conclusion.... or else you might be making a huge mistake.
It's not that I like video game girls, but I would like to be able to tell the freakin' difference, thank you very much. I was on missions with guys that I could have SWORN were women.
That was akward.
3. The leveling system. 1 word: SLOW! It takes forever to even get past level 1, and then each time you level you have to do it all over again. And it's not like you really want to fight the only enemies you really stand a chance against..... mostly because they aren't enemies so much as they are everyday animals many of us can find in our backyard.... yeah, you fight some pretty weird-looking rabits, bigger-than-average bees, and also bigger-than-average worms.
Stick to the area of Bastok, a capital city in the game, if you really don't want to have to bring yourself to killing some rabbit that eight-year-olds can kill with rocks. You still have to fight the giant worms and bees, but those things are ugly anyway. Also, instead of freaky-looking rabbits on crack, you get to fight some pretty mean-looking bats. Hey, who's ever like bats to begin with?
4. Installation process: takes forever. Don't bother taking a seat while waiting for this to install. You have enough time to go and make a seat. Seriously, leave your computer for about an hour or two, come back, and finish the job.
5. Sound. You get the same music all the time for practically anywhere. I play with the sound either very low or on mute. It's really not worth listening to, unless you like to listen to the same damn thing over and over. Battle music also never changes.
These are my main gripes, really. Here comes what I'm pro for.
6. Graphics. They are beautiful, and definitely way more than worthy of the title "above average". Characters, despite most of their girlyness, including the guys, look really really nice. Scenery is nice, enemies look nice (although some look a little corny and more cartoonish than scary, like the bug-eyed slouchy green lizardy big-faced Orcs), everything looks nice.
7. Missions!!!!! Gives a point to the game. You WILL get bored of this game if you don't do the quests and missions. Also, each mission that you do gets you further in the story.... and gets you some neat stuff too!!! Ooh, one last thing. After doing a few easy stupid run-of-the-mill local missions, where your destination is usually only a stone's throw away from your city, you get some really cool missions travelling the world, seeing all the other capital cities and new people, places, and things.
8. Jobs. Jobs are basically what your character is, such as a warrior, a spellcaster, or a monk. The job system is almost perfect in this game. Ever played Final Fantasy....... ok it was either five or six...... I think it was five..... the main character's default name was something stupid like Buttz..... umm anyway if you know which game I'm talking about, then you should know about the whole job-switching system where you can make any character switch to any job at any time. Eventually, you can get better jobs.
It works a lot like that, but each time you switch your character's jobs, you have to start levelling them up all over again, from level 1. Bummer. Looks like it's back to the fuzzy rabbits for another day... However, each job keeps the level you leveled up at while using it, so you can switch back to your level 15 warrior after test-driving a level 1 black mage.
You get to pick you're character's main job at the beginning. The only difference between that and switching jobs later on in the game is that you are pretty much given what you're really gonna need to get you started, while switching jobs in the game gives you nothing but stuff you should've bought or earned for yourself. Oh, there's another gripe right there: money. So hard to come across for the first 10 levels or so.......... especially 'cus the only enemies you can beat don't even drop money.......... damn........ it's gonna be a long long time before you can buy that 'great sword'......
9. The online part. It's great. You don't actually need others.... at least as far as I know... if you want to get further in the game...... ooh, the commercial's on!!!! Wait... that commercial's not so great.... anyway, as I was saying, you can pretty much do everything on your own. However, you're going to WANT to make a party, unless you want to spend a very long and boring lifetime levelling to be able to take on the next mission.
Jeez, I'm writing a lot. Listen, if you want to learn more, check out my PC version review. I'm getting a freakin' cramp here.

I can tell you, avoid it before its too late. lol I played the game for 5 months, its a terrible game, trust me....unless you enjoy playing very repetive combat, unfair deaths, 10+ hour solid quests, long levelling and other nasty things then its for you....its even worse than Everquest ever was.
As for your question, its neither point and click and hack and slash, the p.c method is to use the keyboard to clumsy move your character close to a monster to get into automatic combat with the outcome mostly getting yourself killed unless your *always* with a full group. The mouse is totally pointless and gets in the way, its actually best played with a gamepad.

I'm enjoying it, but it is one of the steeper MMO's I've played. Leveling is a *****, and you need rank 5 in your city to ride the airships? Its hard and really hard to get money. You won't just be going the store buying potions, it ain't like the other ones where you can just instantly heal after battle. I'll give more info as I play. As for the PC parts, um well I have ps2 so yeah...

do whatever you want with your jobs and sub jobs. You'll find some don't work, but when early levling I find its better to sub red with drk till you get your drk to lvl 10. Maybe even more drk/red is pretty decent imo. Pld, sub it with war or drk, most plds are tanks though so finding a party you'd be better off with drk. You can sub ninja with anything, including drk (utsusemi). Any mage job, you'll likely want to sub with a job that mp. For RDM sub with either the other two mage jobs or drk can be pretty decent as well for the mp.
