View Full Version : Wii Golf - which is best and most realistic?

My wife and I have been playing Wii golf the most out of any other game. She is a huge golfer and likes that the Wii mimics a real swing.
Wii Sports has a nice pick up and play style golf game but it lacks the depth and strategy category. That and it's not a total simulation or in other words doesn't replicate a "real" golf swing 100%.
Super Swing Golf helps pick up the slack by adding slice/fade and a better backswing enabled power meter. It's still lacking a bit however in the sim style.
Now I'm considering picking up Tiger Woods on the Wii in hopes it fulfills what I'm looking for. After reading countless reviews I'm still not convinced and are looking for any input you can offer.
Is Tiger a good "sim" golf game in the fact that it fully replicates a "real" swing or at a minimum does it come close? Anyone play Tiger on the Wii and have any comments? Thanks.

I picked up a copy of Tiger used from Gamestop and will give it a try. Apparently if I don't like it I can return it within 7 days (used games only).

Post your impressions, because I'd like a golf game myself, but I don't know which one to get. I was leaning towards Tiger, but I'm still unsure, since most reviews have Super Swing as the better.

I've always liked the Tiger Woods games, but from what I heard, the swing or putting mechancis were flawed, but the same mechanics were not flawed in the free Wii Sports Golf. I think the next version of Tiger Woods will probably have the controls worked out. Something both deep, and with lots of modes and decent graphics.
I also will admit I have high hopes for Mario Golf. I know for a lot of the message board crowd it has been cool to bash Mario, but the Mario Golf games (even--or maybe especially--the GBA version) have generally been outstanding, especially for those of us who like a little surrealism mixed in with our supports, as opposed to realism.
I wonder if we'll see a Mario Golf first, or if Nintendo will continue to pursue its new thing, and make a deep, dedicated golf game that uses the Mii's, and features online play. I think that would be the bigger hit. Mii Golf, online, with all the polish and uniqueness that accompanies the majority of Nintendo first party efforts. It is exactly that kind of title, perhaps a late '08 release, that will keep the Wii hype train rolling, and selling titles to "non-gamers."
Sorry to sorta go off topic. I guess what I'm saying is I don't think there is yet a great choice for golf on the Wii, merely place holders until EA figures out how to program the control right, or Nintendo releases its own golf game.

I've heard the same about Tiger Woods although I've also heard that people may be whining and that the controls are brutally accurate so unless you hit a great shot it will slice or fade. And that's the optimistic approach and the same that made me want to at least try it.
Mario Wii Golf would be awesome although I think I like your Mii Golf Online idea much better. Please get Nintendo on the horn immediately and pass along that great idea.
Off topic, I want more games using the Mii characters. I love that aspect of the Wii. Last night I played baseball on Wii Sports and each of the other players were you guys (Trebor, Gadfly, DJ, the wives, Zappa, Paul McCartney). Very cool.

I think we'll see more usage of the Mii's. Madden '08 for Wii, in addition to having the same content as the other consoles, will also feature a party mode with 22 mini-games using the Miis. And will also have online gameplay (and will not be using Nintendo's friend code system.)
Madden '07 for Wii was considered a solid, well done launch title with well implemented motion controls, and for '08 EA's looks like it will have really fleshed this title out properly. I don't football sims myself anymore, but this series has always been huge, and it I wonder how it will sell.
I hope EA is able to do the same kind of thing with an '08 Tiger Woods game, online play and all. It's games like this, properly advertized, that could make the Wii extremely mainstream in the way Ps2 was.
I haven't completely flip-flopped on my views of EA. My interest in mainstream succcess for the Wii is because I like gaming with the motion controls, and the more succesful the system is, the more games will be made for it, including more niche and experimental titles.
And to meander a little further off topic, Pilot Wings was put up as a pre-order at Gamestop, and though not officially announced, is widely believed to be in development. Anyway, this is a game I suspect that Nintendo will use the Miis for, and I hope to god it features online gameplay. A new Pilot Wings, with the Mii's and online play, would be something that I would call a killer app.
