My computer died yesterday. It's been having intermittent problems for awhile now. I think something on the mainboard is a little fried. Now I need another, which I'm not too happy about because I don't want to spend money on a pc right now. I really don't have time to mail order one, and building one is out as I need to replace mine quick. The one's in the stores all have Vista loaded on them, which I really don't want if it's going to have problems with games. I don't care if it's not the greates computer, I can always upgrade it later. There was one at Fry's with duel core 2.13 gb, 2 gb ram, 500 gb HD, 7600 GT video card, and monitor for $1400. I could live with that video card until I got another one next year. Not how I wanted to get my next pc but as long as its decent I guess it's okay.

Isn't that a bit expensive? For $1400 I think you can get a better system. That's a C2D right?

Yes it's a C2D. And I know I can find a better deal but I need to get one pretty quick.

I picked up a 2nd computer for lan gaming here for roughly 600 bucks. It is a duo core 1.8 with 1 gig of ddr 2 ram, a x1300 pro card 256 ( which you could upgrade later) 7.1 surround sound on board, 250 gig HD, and been very happy with it. I even think it may surpass my older P4 main system ..the duo core set up is very fast. Runs WoW flawlessly and so far I have been very impressed for a budget priced system. It is a Dell e520 ..dvd drive but you can get a burner if needed. Very quiet and you can get it with XP on it not Vista. I bought it from the business site so I could get xp on it.

Actually, after playing on that one...Feldon bought the duplicate computer herself a month later !

I think is a lot of bang for the buck overall for a prebuilt computer.

I found a deal on a Gateway, $1379 after rebate. Comes with a 20" flat panel monitor. Daul 2.13 gb, 500 gb, 2 gb ram. The vid card is a 7650GS, which is fine for now. I'd order something online, but I can't really wait three weeks for it to get here. Wish my computer hadn't died before I was ready to get a new one (next year).

Thinking of a mini upgrade myself. I am trying to get rid of processor lag. I have an Athlon 64 Venice 3200 right now but think the time is nigh to hit dual core. I originally wanted to get an X2 3800 or so S939 just to make things simple, but to my horror htey only sell AM2s nowadays! Sucks! A 3800+ X2 AM2 is only like 4000php ($88) but but dang a similar X2 S939 is going for like 10,000php ($222)!!! WTF

Why are S939 Athlons so expensive, and AM2s freaking dirt cheap? I just want to get a S939 so all I have to do is pull out my old chip and plunk in the new one. Yet it's so expensive (and hard) to find an S939 X2 athlon! What gives?! Is this a conspiracy!

Funny is, I can get an Intel C2D (budget e4300) for just 6,500php (about $140US) and a board to go with it (4300php or $95) and the price is almost the same, but I got more hardware and a faster chip to boot. That overclocks to high heaven.

What the hell is going on??!

Dang it I just wanted to go for simplicity since buying a new board and chip means more installation work, and at that point I think I'll just buy a GPU or monitor first.

Okay, I bought the Gateway last night, set it up....and it wouldn't power on. Turns out the power cord wasn't plugged into the mainboard. Plugged it in, and the computer turns on....and no signal from the computer to the monitor. I tried it with the new one and my old monitor. So I'm boxing it up and taking it back tonight. What a piece of junk. Who QA's these things, monkeys?

Yep....ur right, Bane.

Wow, that's...intense.

Although I suppose it's for the best. It's good to know right off the bat that you have a crappy system that you can send back, as opposed to having it for a while and then realizing what a piece of **** it is.

Just so you know...Dell ships in 3 days usually.

I checked. As of yesterday, June 11 was the earliest ship date for a built system.

Okay, needed a dvi cable. Now the thing works.

That was still really stupid though! You have to plug the PSU before you ship stupid Gateway!

I know, I'm looking at this thing going, "OMG I bought an effing Gateway, what have I done!" But I'm mesmerized by the 22" flat panel screen.

Nice....that makes a big difference with that much monitor !
