View Full Version : Wii VC
Downloaded my first games, Super Mario 64 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I just bought game points right on the menu with my credit card and downloaded them. The process was really fast, and they downloaded quick too. Yay, the Wii can take my money just by waving the Wii-mote, LOL! The games start and play really easy. The only problem I have with this WiFi...it seems that I lose Internet connection every time I go back to standby, and have to reload the drivers on the pc again for the Wii to recognize the connection. Hmmmm

So far I have Super Castlevania IV and Streets of Rage 2(which just came out today).
I love the VC controller. The d-pad is the best, and it's super-responsive for being connected through the Wand.
I just have two GC controllers, which work with the N64 games. One of them is wireless, which is nice.

One thing I've noticed about VC games, though I don't know if it applies to all of them, is that when you exit out of one mid-game, you come back right to where you were. This is works in the pinball game. . .it works more like a "pause" than a saved game. This is actually a really huge thing to me. . . like being able to boot up Mario World and just be standing right there in the middle of the level where I turned the system off. Infinite pause, not save points.
I've actually downloaded quite a few VC games, Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Toe Jam and Earl, some weird pinball game, some old verticle scrolliing shooter that's pretty fun, Kid Icarus (which I haven't tried yet), and a couple other things I can't remember right now. Japan just got Act Raiser, which is my most coveted classic, so I hope it shows up here in the US soon.
It's really cool. I haven't owned an NES or SNES for years, and never owned a Sega Genesis. It's not just "nostalgia". . . some of these games hold up and are a blast. Occasionally, like with Link to the Past, I'm like "wow, these graphics don't look as good as I remember them" but then it doesn't take long and I'm lost in the gameplay. Super Mario World is like that. I hadn't played the game since it was new, and playing it with the SNES-styled "classic controller" on my Wii is FAR superior to running PC emulators. At least, I always found the PC emulation play of old console games to be big riddled, prone to freezing, save functions not always working well, etc etc.
With VC games, all the cool new stuff in the pipeline, GC games I still haven't done and all the goofy extras in the Wii Channels, this system is just always fun. And it's barely gotten started with none of the big software dropping yet. And as much as I'm looking forward to the new games that are being made, I hope we see more ports like RE4. . . like, Okami HAS to get a beefed up Wii version.
Yeah, I heard the "save on exit" works on a lot of VC games but not every one. The one thing that annoys me about playing VC and GC games is that I can never exit out of a game back to the Wii menu, I have to shut down. i thought I was doing something wrong, but other people have said the same thing. You should be able to get back to the Wii menu from any game you're playing, not just Wii games.

Can't you just hit the Home button?

Like Cuddly says, just hit the home button. You can exit VC games and back to the channel screen. This is sometimes why I end up killing an hour before I start actually gaming. I'll mess around a little with 2 or 3 VC games, check the whether, maybe actually look at the Everybody Votes Channel, then actually click on the disk I have loaded.
But, with the GC games, you do have to turn off the system. Not the biggest deal, but it would be cool if you could hotswap GC and Wii games, not just the Wii games.
Yeah I tried the Home button. You just don't think to put the GC controller down and pick up the remote to go back to the Wii, but yes, it works. Thanks.

D'OH! I forgot about how you are using the Wavebird or regular GCN controller. The VC controller is connected directly into the Wand. I can't remember if it has a Home button on the controller though. I'll check when I get offa work.
