Anyone play this game on the Wii yet?
I was feeling a little mario'd out, and Mario Galaxy's coming this year, so I was gonna give it a pass even though I liked the last Paper Mario game.
I was reading a local indie paper, the SF Weekly, though, and it was one of the biggest rave reviews I've ever read. Do you guys who've played it think it really lives up to statements like these:
"Flat out fun"
"Staggeringly brilliant approacht to gameplay"
"SPM takes this 2-d meets 3-d concept to another mind-bending level--imagine The Matrix set in the Mushroom Kingdom."
"While hard to explain, it's a breeze to play"
"Super Paper Mario never feels flat, even if its hero is."
The one negative in the review was the story was simplistic and irritating. This is the only review of the game I've read. I just kinda ignored the game for personal reasons (I had been playing a lot of the sidescrolling original Marios on my Micro still.)

I just got my Wii today, along with TP and SPM. I'll give my impressions of SPM later tonight.

Well, maybe it'll be a few more days, because I've re-connected to Live, and RBH is in need of a Burnout beatdown. Also, Zelda will be taking up a bit of my other game time, once I can figure out how to get the cat over the bridge.
Zelda always stumps me in the easiest of areas. I love it, kind of.

I popped in SPM and the system updated. What was it for?
I don't have Wi-fi, so how do I connect my Wii online?
And the game gets kiddier and kiddier with each title. I can deal, but there's a hell of a lot of text to read. Wish this one had voice-overs. Never did play any of the other Paper Mario games.
Bleh-heh-heh-heh-Bleck!
One more thing. The Game Cube was an awesome system. Possibly better than the Xbox when it comes to games and showing off the system.

I didn't play the N64 iteration, but the GC Paper Mario had a lot text too. It was the puzzles and RPG elements that made it so fun.
As far as getting online without Wi-fi, I don't know. The DS or the Wii/DS USB plug is completely simple though (and both work with both). You just plug it into an available usb port, I think theres like a 30 second install disk, and you are on. Then you can see what Mii and Trebor look like. And,hell, our wives too. Their Miis look just like them.
I'm guessing Nintendo will probably come up with something more cool for its online functionality, but right now, using the browser to watch youtube, checking the whether and news, and some of the other goofy stuff I actually use before I start gaming.

USB, awesome. But the USB connection on the back of my modem looks like this -

Not the usual USB shape that I've seen. I'll figure it out.
Nintendo is freaking daffy! This game oozes with originality, and some great VG humor.
I'm so glad I picked the Wii over the PS3.

The Ps3 is definitely the system of the future. As in, It's definitely gonna be sometime in the future before its worth buying its price.
Anyway, yeah, the humor in the Paper Mario series always cracks me up, and lots of in-jokes. Nintendo always creates a paper-thin story around which it hangs great gameplay and clever scripting/dialogue.
But you have Zelda, too. Choices choices. Personally, I would say: DON'T DILUTE THE ZELDA EXPERIENCE!!!! Play one or the other, but don't do what most of us here normally seem to do which is switch from game to game, playing 3-4 things at the same time. Lose yourself in the new Hyrule, cut yourself off from other games. Games like Okami and Twilight Princess seem so much better when you just lose yourself in their world completely until the game is finished.
In my case, I only THOUGHT I finished Okami. I still--thank god--have half a game left to play there!

On a side note, which a couple of you will enjoy, the SF Weekly review I cited below was titled in big bold letters:
ROLLING PAPER
Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool. Everyone knows Mario is a stoner and a mushroom head.

Looks like a Firewire port (http://www.coolnerds.com/Newbies/Ports/ports03.gif) to me.

I don't think that's how it works, CK. I think you buy the Wi-Fi adapter and plug it into your PC. I think.
I think this is a huge knock against the Wii. Gadfly's down on the 360 for not being wi-fi out of the box, but I think it's far worse to not have an ethernet plug out of the box.
And wif-i connections can be suspect. I bought the wi-fi adapter for my 360... and didn't even use it. You can't have questionable connections for competive play. Especially in team-based games. And in games like Rainbow Six Vegas, bad pings will get you the boot and you'll have a hard time finding anybody that will want to play with you.

That's a big effin bummer right there, Unlucky. I had a Wi-fi deal back in my old house, but my ex needed it more than me, so I left it with her. I knew I shoulda stole 2 of them from work. Egg.
And right before I saw your post, I had called a puter place, and they told me that Firewire doesn't have a connection to usb. D'OH!

This is the thing that I'm thinking of CK:

This plugs into your computer, and turns it into a wireless access point for the Nintendo DS and Wii. (Assuming of course that your computer, in turn, is plugged into the internet.)
The thing is, this little dongle costs, like, $35.(!) You can get a wireless router for that. (After rebates.)

That thing is neat, but my modem only has the ethernet plug and the Firewire BS, which the guy at the store said that I couldn't use it for the Wii because Firewire plugs into other Firewire, or something like that. I'm thinking he's just a moron.

Oh! I get what you're going on about now. You don't plug it into your router or modem, just a regular USB outlet on your comp will do.
And it does work with the Wii, though it constantly gives you a popup icon on your taskbar when using it.

Into my puter! Of course. Still, I can't play online for but a minute at a time.
Did I tell you guys what was wrong with my internet? If I did, then here it is again. Everytime my home phone rings, the dsl light on my modem turns off for a second, then starts itself up again. When that happens, it also turns off the Internet and Ethernet lights. The whole thing to when the lights are back on again is about 45 seconds. That drops me from any online game I was playing. That's why I can't get my Revenge rank below 5,000 without my crap disconnecting and I get credit for a loss against 10,000 rankers. Anyway, the fine folks at Quest have come to my house and ran every test that they say they have and it always comes up showing the 'net working, so they say it's not the modem. They thought it could've been a crossed wire somewhere, but that was BUSTED when we ran a separate line from the box to my room and it still did the same thing. They thought that maybe they could fix it from their main office or whatever by switching out cards, or signals, or something. But that also failed. So I might be SOL with Live, at least during the daytime hours. Sometimes it also does it at night, though.

Yeah, today it's cutting out without the phone ringing, so maybe it's been doing that all alaong, plus when the phone rings. Unless today they're trying to fix something...nah.

Never mind, it's fixed. The problem was to much internet running through the lines. So they lowered the bandwidth or whatever, and now I can play without worry of disconnects. It didn't affect my Live speed I guess, because I played a number of BR races and the guys said I had no lag. Wee!!!!!!
I picked up one of those little WiFi things the other day. Other than taking forever to download the updates, it works great.
