So how does it work with the Wii? Flawlessly? Are there connection issues? How does it even connect to it? Does it only work with GameCube games? I need details. Please and thank you.

It works flawlessly in my case. You know, I haven't tried it with the VC games, but I think the SNES games require the "Classic Control." I think wavebird/gc control works only for GC games.
But damn is it nice to play those 480p GC games on the Wii since I was never able to find the rare, discontinued component cable for the GC (well, I never looked all that hard to be honest since I didn't get an HDTV until the end of the cube's life).
The Wii is an all around fun thing, a Wii game here and there, some great VC games, some fun diverting "Wii Channels", a fun way to watch YouTube on your television, etc. This is a cool system already, and there hasn't even been much out for it yet.
Sorry for the advert rant. I'm just digging the system.

How do they connect? Where does the Wavebird's receiver plug into? Is it not even used?
If I'm going to play GameCube games then I gotta play them with a Wavebird. I'm thinking I'd like to give a few GC games another shot (everybody here just seems to love Eternal Darkness; MPP is making me think of MP and is making me almost regret my decision to not stick with it a little longer; and no one won't stop talking about Battalion Wars) and, well, I'm thinking of getting my third Nintendo system in three months. Just trying to decide if I should get one of the very last GC's out there or get the all-encompassing Wii.

A flap on the side of the Wii opens up wherein the GC controller/memory card ports are embedded.
Also, buy a Wii. For $250 you can play every single GC game and every single Wii game, plus Virtual Console games. For $100 you can only play GC games. I think the extra $150 is worth it, IMHO.

You da man, trebor!
But... what is that green facade on the front of the unit in that pic? Is that your unit, treb?

Sweet pic, you still have that GC laying around? I like the Wavebird too, I found most GC controllers had short wires and I tended to pull the Wii over too often since it is tipsy to begin with. My memory card looks a little bigger than yours, I can't remember the size mine is. You are just like me, a little GC a little Wii games...I play a little Chibi Robo now that I beat RE4 and some Rogue Squadron, that game still looks awe-inspiring but has very limited options and such. And for Wii games it's Rayman and Sonic Secret Rings. I'm stuck on Rayman where they keep trying to come out of outhouses and hit you in the face with plungers, so you keep the doors shut on them...Nothing like hearing 5 bunnies trying to pinch a loaf!

Sorry, but I lifted that pic from IGN - I believe that's Matt Cassamassina's (spelling?) unit there. He must have connections to get a lime flavored Wii.
By the way, I'm typing this via the Wii Opera browser, which is another perk - couchside VGR surfing.

Glock, my bad. You CAN use old GC controllers, including wavebird, on virtual console games. I personally use the SNES styled "classic" controller that plugs into the Wii wand, but you don't have to waste your money on stuff like that if you don't want. The old GC controllers do work on VC games.

D'oh. Duhn Duhn Duhn... it only says IGN right there in the lower right corner. :blush2:

That's real good to know. Thx.
Because - while I haven't played with it; only seen pics - that Wii "classic" controller looks retarded. First I think I would have liked it better without the two A-sticks. But that's not the real reason I'm hating on it... it's because the cord comes out the bottom...! The Dreamcast did that - and it fell completely off my radar way back when. There's no worse design in all of system-dom.

It's a pretty stupid place for the cord to come out. . . I ALWAYS pick the controller up and hold it upside down before realizing, DOH, I'm holding it upside down.
I'm really hoping that soon we'll have wireless peripherals, like the wand and nunchuck, classic, and other attachments will all work wirelessly with each other. I'm totally 100 percent positive that Nintendo released wired ones first and next year will reap massive profits when we all go buy new controllers.
I'm a controller whore, so I'll shell out, but I still wish they'd put it out right in the first place.
I have a couple of wireless mini-sized gc controllers from Gamestop that I use with my Wii. They're really good controllers.
