There's been a lotta yadda yadda surrounding the graphics of the Wii. I don't think it's going to be a issue simply because the system can put out great graphics.

Check out the video of the Upcoming RE game for the Wii. It looks great imo.

Click the middle button then Vol 1 and Vol 2 are two seperate videos.

I found this in the cesspool that is Neogaf.

You know, this is one thing I love about Japnese devs. They know how to design a game to look good even with limited hardware power. We saw lots of games on the PS2 like this. Still, lack of resolution always hurts a game's look and character designs can only do so much. Still the Wii should be able to put out acceptable graphcis.

My main concern was not just the capability of the system, but that too many devs would see it as a system were the customers don't care about graphics and make it a dumping ground for half-assed games.

I mean look, Wii sports is a hit, so obviously you can do well with some low-end graphics, but look at God of War games on Ps2 where someone took the time to really create something special. Wii is more powerful hardware, but someone's gotta take the time to create something really special looking on it. It's not all just hardware capability, and I'm afraid outside of a few titles like RE and Metroid Corruption, too many games are going to look like bland unimaginative Ps2 games. Like how the EA and Ubi games are currently coming out.

Which is how Godfather looks to me, even though the controls are really well implemented.

This is kinda what I was hoping to get at in my Spidey 3 thread - not that the Wii is anywhere near the 360/PS3, but that it does have more horsepower than the PS2/Xbox/GC and could show it, if developers took the time to do it. I guess what I was imagining before the Wii came out is that it was 2x more powerful than the GC, and the GC has some truly nice looking games on it, like RE4 to be specific, so we could get some above RE4 quality graphics.

I honestly think once devs make a point to make good looking games the Wii will be alright. They can't have to many Excite Trucks and Minigames because then the impression will be that's all the system can do.

Sonic Rings looks surprisingly good to me. Hell it looks better than the Demo of Sonic on the 360

When I first played Zelda on the Wii I thought "man this looks pretty lame", but I had just finished Oblivion and was spoiled graphically speaking. After a while of playing Zelda I sorta didn't care anymore what the graphics looked like. I started playing RE4 right after Zelda and thought that this doesn't make sense. How can an old GC game look quantum leaps better than a Wii game? I was most impressed with a majority of RE4's graphics, there were a few spots where textures looked low res and those areas really looked quite bad. Then, there are spots in RE4 where it almost looks next gen it looks so damned good. I'm on to RE 0 now and that game is in the old style with static imaging mainly, although I have discovered a few scenes where the camera tracks you from one end of the room to the next...this game also looks really good and has a solid story so far, as usual. I've also been messing around with Battalion Wars a bit, this game is not the most beautiful but has a hell of a lot going on at one time and your troops fight pretty well as you order them about on the battlefield, and the draw distance is impressive. The point is, GC games are mighty impressive looking games already and the Wii being able to do twice that should give us very good looking games if devs. don't halfass their properties.

Prince of Persia with shoehorned controls will simply not do for me...

Indeed, GC games do look good, and I've always preferred multiplat games on the GC rather than the Xbox or PS2 last gen. In fact, there's still a bunch of games I have yet to play on the GC which are on my hit-list (Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, Twilight Princess, and I need to finish Resident Evil and Eternal Darkness). Of course, it all comes down to the controller with the Wii; the whole idea of the Wii is so largely dependent on the controller that if developers cannot find a way to make long, immersive single-player games control and play well with the Wii-mote, it's going to be in trouble. Not financially speaking, of course, since Nintendo is going to be pumping out top-shelf games left, right, and center, but rather a failure with the core gaming crowd.

I used to think RE4 was the best looking game last gen. But I don't think so the lack of lighting and Shadowing effects hurts the game imo. Still looks good though.

I heard that the Wii gpu doesn't do real time shadowing either that's something the Xbox did. Hope that's not true shadow effects with good textures can do wonders for a game.
