"Since both consoles launched in Japan, Nintendo has sold more than twice as many Wii game consoles as Sony has sold of its PlayStation 3, Bloomberg reports.

Kyoto-based Nintendo has sold 1.95 million units of its newest game machine as of March 25 since it debuted on Dec. 2 last year, Tokyo-based research firm Enterbrain Inc. said in a faxed statement. Sony has sold 812,000 of its latest console since November 11, the report said.

In related news, Wii sales have increased on eBay to rank as the No. 1 most popular video game system at the site, surpassing both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3."

First, upstart Microsoft has a system that is equally powerful, $200 less (no 20-gigs in store means PS3 IS $600) and is stealing all of Sony's previously announced exclusives.

Next, Nintendo has made the most unlikely of comebacks and has smashed Sony's face in WORLDWIDE. Japan, US, Europe...it doesn't matter. Wii is kicking the PS3 around likes nobody's business.

Can Sony pull it together? Sony's "big gun" 1st party games keep getting the pushed-back treatment and 3rd parties are happily shaking hands with Mr. Gates. Original PS3 fare like Motorstorm is receiving flak for it's lack of features and multiplatform games are averaging 95% of them being WORSE on the PS3 than the 360. The most recent being Splinter Cell Double Agent which is butt on the PS3. F.E.A.R keeps getting pushed back and last I heard/read, the game looked like crap next to the Xbox 360 version.

At this rate, are developers even going to BOTHER porting games to the PS3 when it is readily apparent that it's both difficult and expensive to get decent results? Especially when PC and Xbox 360 programming is said to be so much easier?

Will 3rd parties pony-up exclusive content for the Wii and it's rapidly growing installed base? I believe so. Last-gen graphics or not, the Wii is a fun system with alot of potential. And that's pretty much where I stand. Until something "God of War-Great" comes along for the PS3, it will languish on shelves.

And then you have Halo 3. Like it or hate it, Halo is the most important game of the last gen. And I realized how widespread it has become the other day at Hot Topic. They have purses, shirts, headbands, belt buckles and just about everything else on it with the "3" printed on them. And everyone knows what it is, that simple "3."

Halo 3 is coming. Forza 2 is coming. Gears of War Annex is COMING. Devil May Cry, Assasins Creed, Bioshock, Mass Effect and many more are COMING. PS3 has NOTHING this year that can touch the 360. And apparently, no matter what games come out, NOTHING that can touch the Wii.

So now come one, come all Sony Milkdrinkers. Tell us GAMERS how "Microsoft is bad." Tell us all about the "console dropage." Tell us how we are all "full of FUD" and how "Bluray makes one breath fresh air." Tell us how the fact that Sony can't even sell out of launch stock in any major territory is a "good thing." And while you are at it quote some more Neo-GAF posts as if they were fact. And let everyone know how Blu-Ray playback will "win Sony the war." Then try to tell us how unimportant Hironobu Sakaguchi-the father of Final Fantasy is to Microsoft. How Blue Dragon and the other Mistwalker 360-exclusive projects don't mean anything. Try to convince us how great Ninja Gaiden Sloppy 3rds aka Sigma is when Itagaki (head of Team Ninja) is working on TRUE original games and sequels for the 360.

I would really like to battle you on this subject and defend Sony...but...I agree with you. Even tho this discussion has been beaten to death on various forums it's quite true and interesting to keep the flow of conversation in regards to this one topic.

Sony keep f*cking up and acting as though nothing is wrong...scary thing is? They believe it! The PS3 as an actual console is sweet as hell and provides some amazing features you just cannot find anywhere else. But the cost is the deadly secret, and by cost I don't just mean money, I mean risk, longevity and worth! With every single exclusivity lost to PS3 I feel ripped off. Owning both consoles has me begging the ultimate question...do I just own an expensive secondary gaming platform??

In the end I know I'll get the must haves that Sony offers and I'll enjoy them. But like you and many others have posted, Halo is one powerful weapon to have in your camp, like it or not it's going to drop a f*ck load of damage. My 360 is and will most likely remain my primary gaming console condidering most of my gaming demands are being met with Xbox.

Sony should just throw in the towel or buy some human beings like Microsoft is doing. Geez, I never knew there would be such a market for human beings. Hopefully I make it in the music biz, so I can find out how much I'm worth on the market. I wonder if there are showings and stuff well they buy and sell people, like the housing market.

It's pretty clear that Sony will have to talk with some money if they want to compete against fat wallet Gates. If they don't then it may be the end of their Playstation line which is fine. But then we are left with MS and Nintendo... NO!!!!!!! LOL... I guess there is always PC to fall back on. Hopefully Sony wakes up so we can actually have some competition among companies.

Although, with the Elite coming out, we will see how new and exsisting customers react to this. I think it's good that they have the Elite, but it should be $400 not $480, and then MS would probably be buring Sony but they arn't quite yet.

"Nintendo has raised its sales and profit forecast for a fourth time for the business year just closed. The forecast has resulted in another climb for its share prices.

The increase is attributed primarily to strong demand for the DS, which just hit the 3 million sales mark in the UK alone.

Nintendo said that its sales totalled somewhere in the region of 966 billion yen (£4.12 billion) for the financial year that ended March 31st. That's up from 900 billion yen (£3.8 billion), the company's last forecast.

Nintendo's actual profit figures will be published on April 26th, but it has said that it expects an exchange rate related profit of 20 billion yen (£85 million), up from a previously forecast loss of 10 billion yen (£42.5million).

Nintendo's continued financial success is in stark contrast to those of Sony's games division. The company reported hefty losses thanks to the under-performance of the PSP and losses taken on the PS3."

I think that the strong sales of the Wii sends a clear message. Gamers care about Nintendo's franchise characters and graphics aren't such a big deal. It's also a no-brainer to see that a $250 Wii will sell much better than a $600 PS3. And honestly, financial numbers have already been provided that show Sony takes less of a hit on the 60-gig unit. And do you actually SEE any 20-gig models in stores? I look everywhere and cannot find a single one. Because honestly, if something DID come out for the PS3 that made me want one, Sony could shove their chrome trim and mem-stick ports up their rear and let me save a Benjamin!

Sony wants to try and compete for the high-end "hardcore" market now, as evident with their uber 60-gig model with HDMI and all that. Microsoft is throwing a new, black Elite 360 out on the market for those who want a bit more. It has better wireless controllers. It has HDMI. It has DOUBLE the HDD of the PS3 and it has THE GAMES. Oh...and it's $120 cheaper!

For those who don't care but still want the best-looking games on the market and the most variety, you still have the $400 system with more than enough HDD for your game saves, a bunch of downloads and ripping your music library over. And it has THE GAMES!

It's like Sony said to themselves "We will put in everything that Xbox had lest gen and charge DOUBLE for it! Bwahahahaha! It doesn't matter! The sheep will flock to our new system! Who cares what games it has! People will buy the tech demo Motorstorm-bereft of all the standard features of competing software! We are Sony! Bwahahahaha!!!!"

And that is exactly the attitude they have. They don't care about gamers. None of these companies do! But Sony is so damn arrogant that they think they can shove their shovelware and piss-poor ports down our throats and we will go with it. The Sony train pretty much stopped at the PS2 for me. The only game on the horizon I see for PSP I have to have is Castlevania-Dracula X Chronicles. Other than that, blow me Sony.

I think this thread is about a year late. I don't know what exactly about a $400 360 and a $250 hot-stepping mega-selling Wii is new. "Bet Sony never saw THIS coming!" I bet they've been seeing it for a while now.

Sony still has MGS and FF coming, so it's not like all is lost. However, it certainly isn't looking pretty, is it? I never thought, me being a Nintendo fanboy and all, I would see Nintendo with the chance to dominate once again. :cryin:
