I don't know if PS3 is the worst deal you can ever find in the world. It obviously can't be worse than Xbox360's upcoming 120 GB harddrive. First of all, it's going to be 180 bucks. Then, it comes with a craploads of restriction.
1. You cannot put the data from two or more 20 GB hard disks onto one 120 GB hard disk. If you attempt to move multiple drives, only the last one you move will be stored.
2. You can only move data from the 20GB Hard Disk to the 120 GB Hard Disk. Transferring data in the other direction, or any other combination, is not possible.
3. Any data stored on the 120 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted.
4. Any data stored on the 20 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted after it is moved over.
5. Once you move the data over, it cannot be placed back on the original hard disk.
It seems to me that 180 dollars price tag is contribute to the effort M$ input to restrict the accessibility of its own user.
And, how about 360 Elite? Some of the many common reasonings that Xbots have been using ever since the birth of PS3 are HDMI and its price tag. Now, 360 Elite is going to match both of these. The system is going to be almost 480 dollars. That is going to be almost as much as PS3 but with less features. Essentially, you could same they are about the same deal. But, with PS3, u have more freedom with your stuff. You can install your own OS. You can also use any hdd u want and back up ur hdd if you like. Some posters on other sites were somewhat disappointed that HDDVD was not included.
I am just want to know how many of you xbots are going to buy this?

So I guess money really isn't an issue after all, right?

So...what!? Can I install Windows Vista on my PS3 tonight?! Man I'm gonna try as soon as I get home....my Ps3 will probably scream bloody murder and eject the core before it goes critical. What in sunny jesus are you talking about install an OS? curious...

Who care!
I don't know anyone here or elsewhere that has 2 hard drives so this is a non issue. Forget the fact that they have a way of transferring the data over but focus on the tiny negatives. Now if they didn't let you move your current save files, now that would actually be an issue that would concern me.

Vista, no. Linux and XP, yes.
Vista asks for too much resources.

It's better just to run linux though.

I think it's pretty lame that you have to pay above the market price but end up with much less freedom. Of course, if you have no problem with it, then it's a nonissue to you.

It's not losing freedom, it's MS protecting their content so schmoes don't DL something, then go to a friends house, and log into their account and DL the same content onto the friends 360. It's all for protection, and I see nothing wrong with protecting yourself.

I see both of your points. This is why I don't want everything to become digital, because of it does companies are going to have control over stuff you are buying. If I buy something it's mine and I should be able to do whatever I want with it. Granted with live market place it's more of a rental process, you do see what road this is going down.

That's exactly why I'm not getting the Shivering Isles expansion for my 360. Only if it were to come out on disc. I got no problem with using the HDD for maps and stuffs like that, but not for something like SI.

I'm wondering if I go to trade in my 360 for an Elite there won't be ANY opportunity to do the transfer. So I guess you have to buy the Elite first, $500 cash upfront, then get it home and do the transfer, and then go sell-back your old 360.
I'm not interested in the Elite, but I'll bet this is going to stop at least a small % of people who are, especially maybe teen-agers who don't have $500 lying around, "um mom can I borrow $200 for another 360, i'll give it back to you tomorrow!" But most people are going to go to EB i'm sure they will only give u the trade-in "premium" they are offering upfront, not after u buy the Elite.
As far as all the other stuff loading an OS on a console is the last thing on earth i'd even dream of doing. I could see myself pouring gasoline all over my body and setting myself on fire, before loading an OS on a PS3. Plus how can the PS3 have more features? I can't play games on it, that is the main feature I want. I can do all of this stuff except play good games, big deal.
This is all idiotic to me. I bought my 360 year one, it looks like it is gonna last the entire cycle. And i've gotten to enjoy the next generation, sorry Sony, from day one. And it is looking more and more as if that $400 I spent, will be the only console money I spend this generation. PS3 and Wii just not attractive. What kind of NextGen did they envision? I guess one without games. "Come buy your console, take it home, and marvel at it!"

What did you envision? That Sony and Nintendo won't be releasing any more games for the next 10 years?
