Nintendo Wii: 5-6 million + sold ALREADY???

According to VG Charts, the worldwide tally falls like this:

Xbox 360: 9.77 Million
Nintendo Wii: 6.25 Million
Sony PS3: 2.80 Million

Incredible sales if true. However, the Microsoft 360 numbers seem a bit odd, seeing as how it was "officially" announced that by the end of December, the 360 had sold through 10 million worldwide and has moved around 400,000 worldwide in January and February.

These come from nextgenwars, I don't know how reliable they are, but the figures seem to profoundly favor the 360 in comparison to the ones you got.

If this is true, then the sale # would only go higher and higher.

In response to a question as to whether a low Wii supply would be a recurring problem with Nintendo, GameStop COO Dan DeMatteo said he believed Nintendo created the shortage on purpose. "I think they intentionally dried up supply because they made their numbers for the year," DeMatteo said. "Their new year starts April 1 and I think we're going to see supply flowing."

It's good that Nintendo got this initial blast from the starting line. It may end up like a sprinter running a marathon though. If the novelty wears off or if people just stick with Wii sports and like titles, it won't be good for Nintendo.

Talking with people at work that own the Wii, most of them only own Wii sports, they don't even own Zelda. It's just odd, because Wii sports isn't much of a game. Actually when they talk about bowling on the Wii, I ask them "why don't you just drag you lazy butts down to the lanes?".

Bah, who knows whats going to happen with all this mess... It's too early to know what is going to happen. MS could makes it's existing customers angry and scare off new purchasers by already releasing a new and superior version and also having so many dang add ons. People could get Wii'd out. PS3 could just fade away. Then we would be stuck playing only PC games, LOL... That would suck.

Monkey, the lanes cost extra money. However I do find it funny that the couple people that I know who own Wii's only have Wii sports. Imagine what would happen if every console came with a game.

You know, if the Wii got some good exclusives like, oh, say, I don't know, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a few JRPGs (Dragon Quest, an FF offshoot), and some action/adventure games (Metroid, Zelda, a Prince of Persia-style platformer, maybe even a Star Wars game) then I'd probably get myself one. Until that happens though, I'm looking at it with very skeptical eyes.
