Desperate attempt or fun gag? To me, this seems more like the guy dressed like Spock giving the Star Wars fanboys the finger at Man's Chinese Theater at the premier of Episode II.

I think MS was just having some fun, how can it be desperation when 360 is doing pretty well. What's desperate is giving away HD tvs to move consoles that should sell themselves.

They weren't giving away HDTVs to move consoles. They gave them to the people that lined up, and they didn't KNOW they were getting an HDTV. It's sort of a thank-you. They didn't provide the HDTV as an incentive, those people were getting a PS3 anyway.

And I don't see what this boat is trying to accomplish:

true...at first the people that were getting tvs didn't know what was going on apparently as they stood about confused until it was explained as if to children, funny, when you actually get something for nothing I'd probably stand there unbelieving too for a while. (mouth agape):eek:

Considering how well the PS3 sold in Europe at launch it seems like MS knew something we didn't (that they needed some help convincing Europe to purchase a 360 over the PS3). Not saying I agree with it but they certainly were on to something there.

I personally think it's more funny than desperate.
