In an attempt to woo over the UK gamer Sony honcho takes a cheap shot at US gamers.
<a href="http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=74533">Eurogamer Article</a>
<b>Comparing the US and UK prices of the console (US$ 599 and GBP 425 respectively), Maguire told gi.biz that whereas the US was a "massive land with cheap people", the UK was "a little island where rent and rates are at an absolute premium, and the cost of people is a lot more".</b>
I'm sure he meant to say that America is a massive land with cheaply priced products, at least I hope that's what he meant to say. The talking piece went to mumble a few more gaffs in the interview. Like this..
<b>You also have to remember that we're one of the most cynical nations on the planet and even if you're telling people the absolute truth they doubt whether that information is real or not. This is the world that we sit in and we have to accept it and make the best of it."</b> Now Sony has said this in different ways several times. Basically blaming the consumer for NOT falling down on their knees and begging Sony to accept their humble money for the HONOR of getting to have a PS3. This is sh*t, what Sony doesn't understand is YES we believe the PS3 costs that much to manufacture, lord knows a million other media outlets have independently verified how expensive it is to manufacture. The problem is it is NOT worth it, particularly in light of the competition. Also, the problem is even if it is worth it, many people cannot afford it. Hell, I know how much a BMW M6 costs, just cause I know doesn't mean I can afford it. And actually I could afford a M6, but I'm not gonna be nuts enough to pay $1000 a month for 5 years for a car loan.
Its funny cause Sony use to be the master of marketing and controlling the media with their other systems. With PS3 they really haven't found the right formula to market the PS3, they also haven't found the right price structure either. Hey here is a clue, that $100 price drop would be a good thing, for gamers at least. It seems like no one in Sony did projections on the possible market penetration of PS3 at various price points. You think maybe someone would have the idea that getting the ball rolling at this price is going to take a big effort.
