Well I had to post this, below is a link to the hd footage of both please vote with a brief description on which you think has better graphics.

Peronally I think that the 360 looks better though a bit dark in some places but overall looks better than the PS3 which seems too bright and washed out. Example look at the enemy explosions, the ps3 looks like a dull orange cloud of smoke and the 360 version actually looks like a fire explosion. The textures overall seem better as well.

Just my thoughts, here is the link.

The 360 version seems to have the contrast way up so that the darks are really dark, it gives the appearance in this video that the 360 version has better bump mapping but I don't think it really does. Both look identical basically and for me it comes down to who's got the best controller for this game...I'm leaning towards the 360 version. Good week for games, Oblivion PS3, Amored Core 360, Godfather Wii...where will I find the time.

Stalker has actually been reviewed in a UK magazine. So I guess it is finished.

the PS3 version actually looks better, yeah the 360 looks sharper and darker, but the map and terrain looks more realistic on the PS3. Did u notice that when the player drops into that shaft there is no detail on the surroundings and walls, its just black, whereas you can see windows and details in the PS3 version. I'm sure the 360 is capable of doing the same thing but it seems like more time was spent on the PS3 version. The 360 playback was sharp but just way too dark and the geometrical perspective of the landscape was off relative to the PS3 version.

the game itself looks boring and simple as hell though, I hate games that are basically not even a challenge.

I blame the monitors they were using for the comparisons. Obviously, they are not the same screens. The game isn't graphically impressive to begin with, anyways.

Stalker is also reviewed on IGN. Scored an 8.2.

You think so? I would think they would be saavy enough to control for such an obvious factor, if they didn't then yeah the whole comparison is just worthless. Really its worthless anyway, like you said if it were a game taxing each system, pushing boundaries, then any differences would be telling, but this is just a low poly mech in a barren enviro, nothing to see here but evidence of poorly skilled programmers.

After playing the demo, I know that the screen isn't as dark as the comparison screen. Plus, you have the option for brightness. There are some good comparison vids like the CoD3, and the NBA Street, where the videos look similar, and you have to pay attention to notice the differences.

The only game I know will be better on the PS3 even though it's a multi-plat is Burnout Paradise City. Criterion has said that it works on getting the most out of the Playstation systems, then working on the other versions. They're pushing for 1080p 60 fps, while the 360 version they say will only hit 720p. They did the same for Takedown and Revenge last gen. They prefer Sony's tech.

Wow that's actually a pretty rushed decision by them. I mean have they taken a look out the window and surveyed the landscape? The PS3 is suckin' wind and everything is selling in huge numbers on the 360. They had a chance to do Crackdown kinda numbers on the 360, 400,000 week #1, now once this gets out, i'm sure the 360 community will shun the game. I guess they can look forward to doing Resistance FOM numbers week 1, 70-80,000.

Well I guess Tecmo was on the same high last gen when they prefered to just pioneer to xbox when there were millions more PS2 users. At least criterion is making the games multiplat.

Unless there's some technical problems (like the framerate in MLB 2K7), I'm going for the PS3 version of AC4.

Interesting comparison. The plus is the same, too. Higher tech, and less competition from other game developers. Right now, anyway, on Ps3, whoever shows up early with some actual good games to play is going to reap some sales regardless of how far behind Ps3 is in its user base.

It'll be several months before I can find a copy of the collector's tin but I should have the game by tomorrow.

As awesome as the collectors tin is, I doubt I'm gonna be able to grab it. So I've got no other choice but to be satisfied with the regular box with the stupid boxart.

Oh, and Gamespot reviewed the game. (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/stalker/review.html?sid=6167650&tag=topslot;title;1&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot) An 8.5, not bad at all. It sounds like it would've grabbed a 9 if it had a few less bugs and a slightly better translation.

Yeah, April Fools!, I know. Too bad it's not April 1st yet, clowns - you're over a week early.

Actually, I wouldn't doubt if STALKER does make some April Fools headlines. Like, "STALKER developers swear the game will be ready by the end of this fall", or somesuch.

I haven't read the Gamespot review. I saw the IGN review, the main issues they had were bugs (mostly with the AI), and feeling half assed as an RPG -- apparently the game started feeling repetitive after a while -- and having uninteresting side-quests and characters. It might have been higher otherwise.

I would like to try the game already, I doubt that this game will feel as tired and repetitive as the Elder Scrolls games. At least not if the shooter aspect is still good. Gameplay does come before story a lot of the time, and where TES games started feeling tired after so so many side quests, this game has the potential to stay the tide due to having fun core shooter gameplay.

Man I can't wait to play.

I heard the game is heavily taxing though, I thought a Radeon 9800 Pro could run it fine?

I read the Eurogamer review as well. It seems the real issue with this game is how unpolished and broken it is in some points -- particularly quest and narrative. Well that sounds a lot like Gothic, not surprisingly. It is refreshing to play non-American, non-Japanese games every now and then.

Criterion games seem to be Processor intensive game and the PS formats the CPU has always been the strongest points. You really see any advance GPU in there games. But you do see a lot of particle effects and such. So it's no surprise. I know what they say but I will be interested in seeing the final result there preference with the PS3 to there experience with the 360 (Burnout Revenge was ported technically How was it cuddly I only played it on Xbox).

At the end of the day I think online features will be a bigger deciding factor than anything else.

re: STALKER

Wow. I can't believe the game is finally out.

I mean, I really can't believe it. Does anybody even make a PC that can run it? Or did it end up not being this 'great big thing' afterall?

Mochan

You're telling me, I've been waiting for this game for like 3 years, and I feel lucky I dind't know about it as early as some others who've been waiting for 6 years!

As for PCs that can run it, well mine runs it fine and dandy, except I have to turn the advanced lighting effects off, which sucks and makes it look dated. Runs flawlessly though with these settings, I'm thinking I'm getting at least 120fps. I'm waiting to see if ilnadmy can run it properly with his monster rig; would give me an incentive to upgrade to "nextgen PC." It's really a shame not to have the lighting effects, they would put the graphics well above Oblivion's (especially thanks to the atmosphere). As it is without the lighting and shader effects the graphics already give Oblivion's a run for its money, and it certainly runs tight and smooth.

As for it being a great big thing, well the reviews are glowing, it may not be getting 9s but just read Eurogamer's review and you'll see there's a lot of awe going into it. It's doing quite a few things right and they are significant -- particularly on the AI front. The only reason it's not getting 9s is because of bugs and the feel of it being "unpolished" in a way -- which is not unusual for non-American, non-Japanese games (the standards for these developers is just a bit different from what we're used to).

Personally I think the game is awesome, as I noted in the Stalker PC thread. I'll probably make a thread for this game here sooner or later just to do some pimpage.

The only thing that keeps it from topping Oblivion with everything turned on is that you can't see out for miles and miles in STALKER. It has a nice draw-in distance, but you won't be looking at mountains over 30km away.

Course everything else about the game absolutely rocks my ass off. The general creepy factor, specially at night, is unmatched by any game before it. Sitting in an abandoned building all alone, low on ammo, miles away from anyone friendly, wounded, and the cacophony of a dozen howling dogs makes you think they're coming for you (and they probably are). It's just...so...awesome.
