I've been looking since December and still no signs at the stores. What the heck is going on! By the time I buy one, there is gonna be a new generation of Nintendo Console. I hope Nintendo steps it up.
Hey Matt. I've had the same problem. Most stores only get a few consoles at a time. I know that GameStop, where I live, only gets shipments of two or three at a time, and not every week. I've checked with larger stores like Circuit City and they haven't had any for a few weeks now. No stores will hold one and you can't pre order either. I just don't get it. Every time I ask, stores tell me there is such a high demand for Wii that Nintendo can't keep up. I say, Bull! I don't know what it is, but it just doesn't sound right to me.

Oh it's true, it's true. I was out videogame shopping Sunday and I heard people talking about how a couple of Toy R Us's in the area got a bunch of Wii's in. Supposedly one got 22, while another got 11. Each was sold out in a matter of hours - with huge lineups and everything. Apparently it was just like launch day, or Christmas, all over again.
One bit of good news tho' - for Wii owners - is that I'm starting to see Wii-motes regularly and all over.

I found all the Wii's this weekend. There were a couple of giant stacks of them at Toys r Us in Times Square, NYC. The stack I shot a picture of is 3 deep, and there was another tower of Wii's in the center of the store. . . I'm guessing around 800 or so systems in all piled on the floor--didn't ask if there were more in back. I heard one of the employees say "I'm am so sick of the Wii." They were carrying them up to the counter by the armload.
I was there to get the iSound audio peripheral for watching movies on the PsP. . . but there was no way I was going to wait in that line (they didn't have a separate register for non-wii purchases. I went by the store later in the day and the line was short enough to get the PsP sound system, and there were still a lot of Wii's left. If you live in the NE, hop on Amtrack to Penn Station and you'll be a few blocks walk to the Wii motherload.

I posted this also in a thread in the System Wars forum, because as we know, hardly anyone reads any of the forums aside from Sys Wars.
The Toys R Us here in metro-Detroit gets 22 Wii's, while a New York City TRU gets 800? I know NY is a lot bigger than D, but come on, is it that much bigger?
And what's with TRU striking it so rich?

It is pretty weird. The specialty game stores have GOT to be hating this. . . afterall, gaming is their sole source of revenue, and they are losing out on tons of money. The Gamestops and EB's here in SF are only getting about 6 Wii's a week--quite a lot less than TRU, BB, and Target.
Other large city's, like Atlanta, are the same way. I have no idea if the situation is any better in the gamer-to-cosole ratio in less populated rural stores.
I've been curious about Wal-Mart also. I haven't been to one in a couple years. Anyone seen if they are a factor in this? As the nations largest retailer, I thought maybe they'd have some clout in getting systems.

I tell you what else is weird: I've actually had thoughts about getting a Wii.
If I found one, I think I would.
Even though I don't want one. It's stupid. And I now it's stupid. I know there are no compelling reasons to own one just yet - gamewise. But the scarcity and popularity of it are such that it makes me think that I have to buy one if I see one.
I'm a tool. I admit it. :blush2:
Gadfly, you live in SF? I work there. I hit the EB Games on Powell St. Anyway, I consider myself fortunate that I nabbed one a month ago.

Doh? We had a big conversation about local politics, the excessive amount of trash on the streets, etc. It's been awhile.
Anyway, I live right next to Golden Gate park, and its faster for me to hit the Gamestop by Ocean Beach on Sloat--that's the one where I go for anything I'm pre-ordering. I sometimes go to the EB on Powell, but only if I'm down town for other shopping. I have a hard time not going into game stores when I walk past them, if only just to pop in and check out their used games.
What games did you pick up with your system? I'm actually using it right now to play some GC games that are in 480p because I never had the component for my GC. Overall, the software for the Wii is pretty bleak after I finished Zelda. Will probably pick up the God Father: Black Hand this week.
Elebits was pretty cool for an early game, Wii Sports I only play if friends are over. . .and Rayman and Warioware were fun mini-game collections but I'm ready for the system to start delivering a lot more depth.
The non-gamer aspects of the system are a lot more interesting than I would have guessed them to be. Stuff like Wii Weather and the Mii's. Even the relatively stupid "Wii Vote" channel is something I'll flip by between games.

LOL, that must have been along time ago, I totally forgot. I remember another guy who used to come on here, Superfly, who was also in San Francisco, but he moved back East.
I have been too busy play WOW and have actually been ignoring the Wii, except to play Mario Kart with my daughter. Shame on me. All I have right now are Zelda, Warioware, and Wii Sports. For GC I have Metroid Prime, MK Double Dash, and Backyard Football. A paltry collection, but I only need Zelda and Metroid to keep me busy for now. I'll buy more games for it later. I can pick up the really good older GC games for it really cheap. I want to get Tales of Symphonia, and the other Zelda games eventually. I never played any of this stuff.

I was on the lookout for Wii reviews when I stumbled upon a review site. I immediately noticed the list of various merchants selling Wii online. Although stocks are still limited, they're coming in steady slow supply. All items are sold in bundles which means that they come in complete sets including Wii Sports.

In search of wii
My search started in mid-october when my 10 year old son asked for a wii for Christmas. I knew from the start that I had to find him one because of the connection with my name. You see, my name is William Isaac Ishman with my initials being WII and my sons name being William Isaac Ishman the 2nd, WII 2. As a matter of fact my wife refers to us as wii 1 and wii 2. Every weekend in October and November my time was spent searching all stores in the city I live in, including walmart, toys r us, best buy, circuit city, comp USA and many others with no results. I spent hours standing in lines and even witnessed a fight in best buy, when two elderly men reached for the last wii. When December arrived I was about to tell my son that their would probably be no wii for Christmas this year, but first I wanted to give the online stores a try. I check all of the big box stores, always with the same results"out of stock". I ended up checking a couple of the wii tracker sites, and their it was at amazon.com "in stock". Amazon was selling the wii for $250.00 that morning. I immediately went to their site and purchased one.It was worth every penny just to see the look on my sons (wii 2) face Christmas morning. The wii trackers had really done the job for me.

Most stores don't seem to have Wiis in stock. My local K-Mart just sold their few, Circuit City hasn't seen any since Christmas, and who knows when TRU and Best Buy are getting more. For some reason, Gamestop seems to get some in. They had a few when I went down there.
