I'll get it sometime next week, because I just got FFXII and GRAW2, so my plate is full.
The original GOW was easy on every difficulty including God mode(except for the clone fight at the end), so I'm kind of dissapointed that this one has not upped it any. Still, should be a great game to blow through. From what I played of the demo, the moves list wasn't improved upon much.
How are the different weapons?

Six hours in and I've found the Bow and the Barbarian Hammer.

Every game is easier than DMC3. For reals. But yeah, the original GOW was really easy on purpose, I would figure they would up GOW2 a little for the veterans. Maybe they re-adjusted the other difficulties besides Normal?

I guess everything's weaksauce to you, Slade, unless it has lame ass Dante (or his clone in DMC4) as the main character.

Anyway, I picked up the game but haven't played it yet. I got a free t-shirt too. I doubt I'll give any impressions, though.

How much memory does a game save require? The card I've got is almost filled up. Need to know if I need another one.

Yeah, it's easy and even for the number of enemies they throw at you, most of them do so little damage. It isn't until you run into the bigger ones that you begin having to get defensive but it's against these big guys that one of the major flaws of the combat engine is revealed ie they give you a bunch of major monster stomping moves but against the big guys, you are far more encouraged to just begin a combo and abandon it midway when the big monster gets ticked off and then pick it up again after you've dodged his moves. It lacks a certain cohesiveness.
Anyway, eight hours in now. I've picked up another new weapon and some new magic effects. Game's really weaksauce though. It's right up RBH's alley.
Heh heh heh!!!!!!!!!!!!

hehehe. I am like RBH. I am still stuck on Brother level in DMC3. They kept killing me. I got pissed off and put DMC3 away ever since. It was 4 month ago since I played it. It seems GOW2 might be fun after all, you have already put in 8 hours of it and the game just came out yesterday. I have to beat GOW first though. Now I need to go dig it out. It's somewhere in my room.

Eleven hours in. One thing I haven't mentioned yet are the boss fights. There seem to be a better variety of bosses but some of them are just souped up regular enemies. The real gigantic, how am I supposed to kill this sucka', bosses are still few and far between. However, of the couple of them I've faced, they already are better then what GOW offered.

The game is definately fun. One thing that gets lost in all my b*tching is that I had fun playing the first game and am having fun playing the second one. As far as action titles go, the GOW games are still better then most of the other action games on PS2.

One needs a map to find where you actually had fun with GOW.
I did notice in the extras where they have different costumes available after you beat the game. Some after beating it on the 3 available difficulties, and a couple after beating it on Titan. My question is, why do devs do these things? Why have a gamer replay a game over and over just to unlock everything ?(I call it the Capcom Unlockables Law since they are kings of stiffing gamers that way) I'd rather have to find this or that (or a number of them) during the game to unlock stuff. I'm good with exploring to find unlockables. I don't know how much patience I have with playing games over and over just to unlock stuff.

See, there's playing a game and then moving on to the next one and then there's playing a game and actually getting your money's worth from it by mastering its difficulties. I was planning on going through the game in Titan mode to see if anything changes but that changed when they decided not to let you carry your stats over to the next game which is a big no no as far as I am concerned. Now, I plan on taking this back to EB and getting 49.99 Canadian in trade in credit and getting VT3 next week.

I'll get my money's worth from a game as long as the game is fun and it's worth keeping. Mastering all the difficulties was something that was interesting back in the NES or Genesis days, but it does nothing for me nowadays.
Will I need a map to see that you had fun playing GOW 2?

Awesome, this weak sauce will mean I can actually finish it!
Silversparrow, try getting something like a Codebreaker instead, it lets you copy games from your PS2's mem card to a USB drive, which can then be upped to your PC. It's actually cheaper to buy this than an actual memory card and you can cheat if you so desire.

This is a PS2 game not a PS3 game. GOW III wont even be a mention for PS3 owners until about 2009.
Nevertheless GOW II indeed is one of the best of its kind that I've ever played. Definately a serious GOTY candidate.
So far I've got the bow, the Hammer, the power to slow down time, the lightning, the armored part that helps you reflect projectile attacks when timed right, and I just killed Medusa and chopped off that head to get the power to freeze folks and turn them into stone. So far so good. This game rocks!!

With that, I beat the original God of War last night. With the ending though, I'm kind of wandering what they did with sequel.

Since the PS2 forums are usually dead, it was best to post about this game in here since there's usually some form of life around here. Also, I think a lot of PS3 owners here are playing the game in that system.

Basically PapaSmurf this time out you actually are going against Zeus himself. Athena takes Kratos powers of a God away after he shuns her. From there he gets into a little disagreement with Zeus.
Zeus actually comes down from the heavens and drives a sword into Kratos body. (Great cut-scene) From there Zeus leaves him for dead. Then the gods from Hades claims Krato's body. They make a deal with Kratos in order to get Zeus. So basically this time out its you on the hunt the for three sisters and eventually dethroning Zeus.
So far its a great game. I'm glad I played the original first. And I'm still playing the original GOW as well. Challenge is good.

PapaSmurf asked what GOW 2 was about and I answered him. Whenever I wanted to talk about games with you Slade what do you do? Hide behind your ignore list like a little b####. But since I wasnt talking to you why dont you mind ya business. How about that?
So far I just received the Earthquake magic from Atlas. Now I'm inside the palace trying to find the sisters. The booby traps inside the palace are a pain in the arse. But other than that its all good. I truly am growing to love this game.

I dont see you talking about how far you've gotten or how you've beaten the game. Whats up with that? I just got finished laying the smackdown on the Hydra. From there I released the Phoenix, tamed that big ass bird, and then rode him to another place. Now I'm even closer to the sisters. Now I'm in a place thats all green. So far I'm pretty far. What about you Slade? This is your thread isnt it? How about adding a little to it about GOW II? I did. Your turn big mouth.:D

As of post number 17 in this thread, I'd finished the game. In fact, I finished it ages ago. From the time I bought it, to the time I finished it was about a week or so. Would have been faster but there were some days I couldn't play because of work. What are you guys finding so hard about this game that you have not even finished it yet, a month after it came out?
Anyway, highlight the following paragraph for spoilers:
The second to last bossfight is with the last sister of fate, a really fat chick who tries to swat at you with her arms. The fight isn't as hard as the one with the first and second sister's of fate although if you are having trouble right now, wait till you get to the last boss which is Zeus. You had better practice your counters with the Golden Fleece because he will rip you to shreds if you don't. This bossfight has four stages and at the end you do another gory QTE to kill off Zeus. However, before Kratos can do so, Athena intervenes and tells him that he can't kill Zeus because Zeus is his father. Really really lame, BTW. Anyway, Zeus escapes, Athena dies, Kratos goes back in time to recruit the Titans and the last scene of the game is the Titans climbing Mount Olympus to fight it out with the Gods. Then the tagline reads, THE END BEGINS. And you're all set for God of War 3.
Anyway, some of the puzzles are hard but nothing a little thinking won't fix. Both of you are weaksauce though. Although I already knew that about Moody since he couldn't even finish Ninja Gaiden without going to Ninja Dog mode.

It's not hard at all. I just haven't been playing it consistently. Since it isn't a rental, I never feel rushed to beat a game in a week or two after getting it (I kind of find it pointless to try to beat games fast anyway). Plus, if I play just one game over and over and over (and it isn't a W-RPG or sports game), I tend to get tired of it and will end up taking a break.

I just finished the game on Titan Mode a few days ago. Took around 25 hours and over 300 deaths. A couple of parts were extremely aggravating, like the battle with Theseus, protecting the translator, and the hallway to Clotho (3rd Sister of Fate). It's quite disappointing that for all your trouble all you get are two bonus costumes and the ability to replay Titan Mode with all your orbs, weapons, magic. When you finished God Mode in the first game you unlocked extra cut scenes. I think Titan Mode would appeal to Slade and anyone else who think the game is too easy on the normal difficulties.

GoW2 is much harder than the first game, but once you get the Fleece for counters it becomes a walk in the park like part 1. Must be the platforming.
Why are there so many lever and pressure block puzzles? Where's the originality?
Slade once mentioned something about not liking the boss battles where you fought regular sized guys instead of monsters, but I actually preffered those battles over the giant monsters. it felt better. Like fighting regular Virgil in DMC3 vs the giant bosses.

Well, I was told that they took away parrying in GoW2. I guess that's why the game is harder. Parrying is pretty broken in GoW. You can do hits and cancel into a parry at any given time.
I am not really bothered by the level and pressure block puzzles. Some of them are pretty fun to do. The only thing that kinda bothered me was those spinning blade thingy that you have to climb in underworld. I mean, I understand the point of them is to prevent you from going up. But, how is it that you can get hurt by the flat side of the blade? That is just beyond my comprehension.
I don't mind any of the battles in GoW. Yes, it has camera issue but it's alot better than DMC. On top of that, the blade of chaos really kinda free you up. Since you can hit your enemies from a distance, knowing where they are is really not on top of my list.
Aeris' 2nd form was annoying too. But, i finally killed the bastard. yay for me.
Anyone know what the secret of titans is?
