Gothic Trivia: Xardas history

I'm trying to recall the hows & whys of Xardas becoming a necromancer.
In G2, didn't Xardas mention he was a Fire mage before the barrier was created? What made him change? Any brief history on this key figure appreciated.

I've already forgotten a lot of it. Xardas had a falling out with the fire mages having to do with the whole business from Gothic 1. Xardas was the only one who knew about the Sleeper and that it needed to be destroyed to bring down the barrier. At the end of Gothic 2, Xardas drains the soul of the undead dragon you kill, which binds him to the dark god Belliar. So that's sort of a cliffhanger for Gothic 3 I guess.

alright.. i finnished both gothic and gothic 2 nights if raven the other day and i could try to make some sense i xardas history


Xardas was a firemage in monestry at khorinis. where he studied in the secret libery (gothic 2)

but. he got chosen to help with setup of the barrier. the barrier went out of controll and they where trapped with the convicts. the convicts took over the barrier.
they tried to find out why it went wrong but none came with a good teori. so they blamed xardas (the 13th member, the 1 who combained their magic to make it)
instead of fighting xardas left the old camp whitch where the only camp back then. xardas made a tower in the middle of orc land.. where he contined to study the black arts of magic and find out why the barrier went wrong..

the nameless hero comes. there are now 3 camps. old camp, sect camp. new camp.
(after begin underdog you setout to find xardas) xardas meets the nameless hero and sense that the nameless hero might be the man to kill the sleeper.(why barrier went wrong, after doing some quests for xardas you setout to kill the sleeper) so you fight the sleeper and the sleeper dies, but the nameless hero didnt come out so he lies there too. xardas left the vally of mines and made his tower upp in the mountens outside khorinis.

gothic 2

xardas teleported the nameless hero back to his tower. and told him what happend. (reason why xardas did this was because he figured the nameless hero is the chosen of innos and might kill the new threat). so you learn what happends while you where sleeping under those rocks. (again after being the underdog you go to kill the dragons) you talk to the dragons and learn that they have a master. (you killed all the dragons, capture the paladins ship and setout to kill the master.) after doiing much **** you finally reach the undead dragon. you talk to him. you fight him. you win. and xardas appears, he sucks the undeads power out of the dead dragon. and xardas dissapear.
you go back to the ship and travel to the mainland

which i have not played.
