This one to me was big enough for it's own thread. This has been my #1 most wanted Virtual Console release, and it was finally announced for Japan in March. It is Square-Enix's first VC release, and it seems pretty likely we'll see it outside of Japan very soon.
I know I'm not the only westerner begging for this game.

Is Actraiser being made available, or do you homebrew?
I buy new games for PsP, so I don't think homebrew is an option for me. Is there any kind of game download service yet for PsP? I don't have a problem with the emulation community, but I don't mind paying for convenience. . . it would be nice if I could just plug my PsP into the PC's usb, go to Sony's website, and download old games, especially Ps1 titles.

I was going to homebrew, but now I'm reconsidering whether or not it is worth it. I picked up lumines and grand theft auto and I don't want to downgrade if it's going to make the real games unplayable. Plus, emulators are just easier to play on my computer anyways, and downgrading from the pre-installed 2.60 version PSP I got is either impossible, or a pain in the ass to do. I think i'll wait for homebrew to catch up with the firmware updates, if that ever happens.
but I agree, that would be badass, you would think there would be some easy way to download and play playstation 1 games on your psp...like downloading iso's onto your memory or something...btw, how big of one did you buy? I got a 2gb one for my psp, and I can't imagine needing to go any bigger, but I may end up being surprised.
I don't mind paying for old games...as long as they are on a new console -an at a reasonable price. For example, If chrono trigger game out on the wii's virtual console, I would buy it, even though I have it on my computer. However, I won't buy the actual Snes catridge for 60 dollars from McVan's, when I can play it free on my computer.

This released monday. Finally. Act Raiser. I'm going to play it right now and see if it lives up to my nostalgia for it.
Surprisingly, many games do hold up pretty well to the test of time.

I agree, and that's why I'm waiting to hear your impressions on the game before I decide to get it or not. I seem to remember playing a bit of part 2, but it's so long ago, that it could've been 1.
Ninja Gaiden NES will always kick. I sure hope they bring part 2 and 3 to VC.

I still love this game. The music. The mix of Sim-City/God Game and 2-d action sidescroller is as bizarre and loveable and challenging as ever.
If it was part 2 you played, they kind of screwed the formula up there. This is Act -Raiser, the one and only original. If you don't remember what you played, then play this, it is a VC game definitely worth the price of admission, and I don't think it needs nostalgia to be enjoyed, it's just damn good.
I have no idea why it was never released on the GBA. Maybe the villagers and the god mode (your gold palace that you move around on a floating cloud) couldn't be done well on the small screen.
