GamesRadar had a look at the UK's Official PlayStation Magazine and found a Mercenaries 2: World in Flames feature that spilled the guts of Pandemic Studios' open-world carnivale de kablooey across several pages. Games Radar didn't spill the entire article, but they did reveal Merc2's multiplayer, pirates faction, and the grappling hook.

GR explains that Merc2's co-op multiplayer will work in a similar fashion to Gears of War's co-op multiplayer. Start your game, call a friend and invite him over, and celebrate Valentine's Day by blowing a country's internal politics sky high together.

"Mercenaries do not play alone in a (new) playground of destruction" must be World in Flames' official motto. Aside from Call a Friend, the player can also recruit your own army of (AI) mercenaries, a la Big Boss, and you will be rewarded with new missions and objectives.

If you remember the first Mercenaries, you're aware then that the Russian Mafia are the One-Stop Chop-Shop for military hardware you normally shouldn't be using without bleeding a lot. For World in Flames, it seems that they've either been replaced or joined by the Pirates: "Rastafarian warmongers who can sell you the tools of the hired-gun's explosive trade," it says in the GameRadar article (we're assuming they got that from the magazine article). Rastafarian warmongers?

Oh yeah, the hook goes onto you and not onto the Pirates. Much like Just Cause (and Lost Planet), GR observed, your Mercs get a grappling hook. Handy to scale buildings, grab choppers in mid-air, Scorpion enemy soldiers, and water-ski (yes, they said water-ski).

Whoo Hoo!!!!!!!!! GOTY GOTY GOTY GOTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't be shocked if the grappling hook works better in this game than in Lost Planet. Just Cause? Ugh. The animation of that game turned me away. Still, I want more info. Need more info.

It's good to see someone is still getting an Official Playstation Magazine. I'm looking at a cheap PSM subscription to get my PS3-only news and info, mag-style.

I simply cannot wait for this game.

Yeah, I loved the hookshot in LP, (Bionic Comando anyone?). I never played Just Cause but I think they were simply comparing it to Just Cause due to being a "Sandbox" style game as is Mercs 2.

GOTY? Maybe. While I enjoyed the original, I found it got old fast. My GOTY goes to none other then.....come on, do I really need to divulge this?

I'm going to guess MGS4 if it comes out this year. If not, NG: Sigma? God of War 2? Halo 3? Heavenly Sword?

I enjoyed the first Mercs, so much that I crowned it as my favorite last-gen game. It came at a great time when there was nothing but FPS showing up here and there.

I thought the hookshot in LP could have been done better. I didn't care for the automatic 2nd jump after you latch up on something. I thought that should have been left for the gamer to hit the jump or hookshot button again. Also, there wasn't any way to just latch on something and go straight up at anytime, allowing to take out enemies while hanging. So far, I've only been able to do it once when I had to go in hole to get inside a base.

Nope, nope, nope and NOPE......gosh :mad2:

:p Actually it's Bioshock! Metal Gear can honestly wait, NG Sig while looking good I've been there and done that. For some reason Heavenly Sword doesn't grab me, yeah it looks good but what does it bring to the table that hasn't been done before? I know I'll play it and probably love it. But Bioshock is my baby this year.

The "Hookshot jump" yes...what a pain. I've been obliterated by swarms of Achrid due to this little mistake. I agree with you here...I want to make that choice....but I still love the feature. How 'bout those visuals WOW!

Oh, yeah. Bioshock. I'll pass on it though, since it's FP-only.
