Sony Pictures Television International has acquired exclusive videogame, TV, Internet, digital sell-through and mobile rights for the sci-fi series Afterworld from Electric Farm Entertainment.
The series is written by Brent Friedman, who has written for videogames including Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars, the TV series Dark Skies and the movie Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

"As much as I've enjoyed working in all the conventional mediums, I believe we have created something that represents a new form of content -- the online convergence of television and video games,” Friedman said. “Hopefully, Afterworld will not only become appointment viewing, but an immersive, interactive experience that warrants spending many hours in our digital sandbox."

Afterworld, an episodic property, is produced by Stan Rogow, who with Friedman and Jeff Sagansky head up Electric Farm Entertainment. The series appears on the online network Bud TV.

SPTI said in a statement that the acquisition “marks SPTI's first-ever acquisition of a project for exploitation across all of these platforms.”
