PS2 board is so dead, I thought to post this here. Anyone is playing it? It's surprisingly well done. I think I enjoy this game mroe than I did with FFXII. I've been playing it for most of 2 consecutive days and I am almost done with it. FF12 has better graphics and better battle system. Rogue Galaxy has better everything else. Well, Ashe is still hotter. The biggest letdown for Rogue Galaxy is that its battle can be so confusing and your character can be dead in a flash and you dont' even realize it until a few seconds later. Camera is probably the main cuase of it. It doesn't cover the entire battle area, so often u have no idea how ur other teammates are doing. You can only tell from their hp but since the game is more of hack/slash, it's hard to do pay attention who you are attackign and your teammates' hp bars at the same time. also, there are these large size enemies. When they show up in the group of 5 or more, it's hard to see yourself among them. You can die 5-6 times before u can get out to the clear. It gets annoying sometimes. What's even worse is that these enemies require you to beat them in a specific way, like hitting them in the head. You can't get out by hacking your way through them. It would just bounce you back where you were. Oh, sometimes the story gets really REALLY cheesy. But, overall, rogue galaxy is a fun game. Good job, Level 5!

Is Rogue Galaxy's combat in real time like a hack n slash?
Also, can you choose which character you want to use, or do they stick you with a certain one during exploration like FF 12?

It is done in real time. You can choose to use whoever to lead the team too. It doesn't really make a difference though. It's the same in FF12 as well. FF12 is actually better in this aspect because you can fight with anybody. In Rogue Galaxy, the main character, Jaster, has to be in party at all time. But, in Rogue Galaxy, you can switch out anyone in and out the battle at any given time. (except for Jaster, of course) In FF12, you can't do so when the boss is attacking the said character. (you can't switch out if that character's name is in red)
Oh, i forgot to mention the AP system in the game. Unlike FF12, you don't have a AT bar. Instead, you get a AP bar. Each attack you do will take off a portion of the bar. Once it's depleted, you would have to wait for it to refill. Another way to refill it is by blocking enemy's attack.

I WANT this game. I absolutely LOVED Dark Cloud 2, and as far as I can tell, Level 5 (or whatever the developer's name is) can do no wrong.

I'm about 25 hours into it, and I really like it. I got the strat guide (384 pages) and am glad i did. there are tons of combinations to feed the frog for killer weps, and trying to do it by trial and error would be too much. there is a lot to do in this game.

I picked up the game, though I haven't opened it yet. It was a toss up between that and nothing, since the store is crappy about getting in pre-orders (they give really good trade credit, though).
I don't mind if I have to keep Jaster in the party, as long as I don't have to fight or explore with him if I think he's a dork.
I'm glad you mentioned the AP system, since I didn't know anything about it. I'm going to do some reading on the game before I decide to open it or or not.

I felt the same way about Bioware after playing KOTOR. I wouldn't be surprised if every gamer here has that one developer that can do no wrong.

There are also a good amount of minigames. There are A LOT of weapons you can make. Too many, imo. Some of them seems pointless to even try. Then you can use your factory to make machines. There are hunts for notorious monsters like in FF12. Then, you always can try to be #1 among hunters. You can achieve it by meeting many requirements. The best thing in the game imo is that you can change what your characters wear. But, it's always harder to get the new costumes for the babes. I didn't even care for the dog looking solider and the short big nosed freak, i somehow got 3 costumes for each of them. Lame. Another interesting aspect of the game is that you can only obtain special attacks by finding ingredients.
Voice acting btw is top notch. Pretty much the best since....EVER? Grandia 3 came a close 2nd though.

I'm close to keeping it, but there's one more question that will make or break the whole thing. When you are exploring or walking around in town or whatever, are the three characters on screen, or do they do the Japanese RPG-morph into one character, like what FF 12 did?

they are all three onscreen in the field and during battle. during cutscenes, it sometimes reduces to one, but the other times all three are on. this can be a PITA trying to see what's up in battle, tho. still, overall it's an excellent title.

Thanks for the info. I've decided to keep the game and open it. There's no RPGs on the horizon for a couple of months, so this should hopefully fit in nicely with the rotation.

I got the demo disk for that game a few weeks before it came out. On the back it said "No Load Times". Well, I had a hard time believing that. How can you have a graphically rich game like that and have no load times?
But damned if it isn't so. Other than initialization when you start and loading a save, every part of the game is seamless with no loading delay whatsoever. It's a pretty amazing thing, really.

I guess since the game has no polygons in it, they can reduce loading times. GTA: San Andreas had very little loading times, but those were usually when going in/out of buildings. You can drive to the three big areas and never hit a loading screen.
So far, Jaster isn't a Tidus-type A dork.

load yourself up with max potions and stuff. There is no cure magic, just so you know... It took me a while to realize that since you don't know what's on the revelation chart.

Is there a limit to the amount of potions you can carry?

Regular potion and tri-heal are limited at 50. Revive potion is at 30 I believe.
