One of the more exciting games shown at E3 2006, one that seemed to jolt the gathered audience to consciousness after Kaz Hirai's hypnotist act, was Naughty Dog's jungle runner that showed up without a proper name. Now, thanks to the trademark hounds at NeoGAF, we can start calling it Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. Awkward? Yes, but better than "Untitled Naughty Dog Game."
Little in the way of details were revealed for Uncharted since May of last year, but we know it features a baseball-jersey clad protagonist who looks more "I'm a Mac" than "I'm a PC" running through the jungle, one rich with foliage and bloom lighting. The trailer for the game promises great animation, awesome platforming, and a dash of stealth. The newly revealed name hints at a quest to reclaim Sir Francis Drake's lost silver fortune from a Caribbean island.
Other fun trademarks uncovered by user gofreak were the EyeToy for PLAYSTATION 3 (aka "EYE3") logo and a mysterious registration and logo for "beats." which looks to be an SCEE submission for distributing music and videos over a network.
If Resistance is any indication of what Insomniac is doing as far as going off the beaten path. Then this title could be a promising difference for Naugty Dog.

There is too little information to make anything out of this news. I do really want to play that game "Afrika" or something like that. I remember seeing its trailer. It looked cool.

It's good to see Naughty Dog trying a new game instead of pooping a next-gen Jak & Daxter. I got tired of the series, which was at its best in the first J&D game.
One site claims it looks like an Indiana Jones kind of game. Sounds good, considering the real Indy game is going to be developed by the massively underachievers at LucasArts.
What is Afrika supposed to be? I'm hoping it's along the lines of what B.C. was going to be for Xbox before getting cancelled.

Naughty dog are the most overated dev house in the buisness. Personally the only game they made that I like was Crash Team Racing (better than Mario Kart).
They are technical wizards even more so than Insominac. So from a techincal standpoint I really want to see the game but that's about it.

Any and everything under the Nintendo umbrella holds that title of overrated dev house, IMO. Of course, there's a few that follows them on my list.
I think Naughty Dog just tried to do too much with Jak 2 and 3. J2 had too much GTA influence in the game, yet it was executed very poorly. J3 kind of stretched itself too thin with the different things to do in the game. The driving and shooting/platforming portions were all I wanted in the game, but instead I got stuck doing hand gliding, hoverboarding, and possibly other things in the game that I didn't have the patience to get to.
A new direction and focus for this dev team is a good idea. I just hope it ends up being at least a solid title.

I'm not the biggest Nintendo fan either. But so many gameplay elements we take for granted in games today have been introduced by nintendo. That as a developer I have to respect them. Naughty Dog however as far as there game design go they are pretty bad in my book.

Jak and Daxter was a pretty fun game on the PS2. Jak2 and Jak3 I didn't like. Apparently though, Daxter on the PSP is quite good, but I don't think that one is made by Naughty Dog.

Games like these were why I knew that getting a PS3 was a certainty. On the 360, you've got shooters out the wazoo with a game or two from a bunch of sidegenre's thrown in so Xbots can make lists on forums and pretend like there's more diversity then there actually is. However, it's PS3 that's bringing us the third person action and adventure games and this one especially is one that I can't wait for:

I guess I'm more of a "what have you done lately?" type when it comes to Nintendo. They introduced a lot of good things in the past, but it's been a while where they made something on the software side that was interesting, especially during the GC-era.
I won't give N-Dog a pass because of the first J&D game. They have to prove themselves once again.

I just hope most of the 3rd person action/adventure games coming to PS3 are worth playing. Heavenly Sword? From what I've seen, definitely. The Naughty Dog game? Maybe. Need more info, though. Final Fantasy? What? I don't think Square will put enough action in the series for me.

Lol, and I thought I was the only one that thought that. For some reason I see the same thing happening here. Even the big name RPG (Mass Effect) is a shooter in most respects. While it looks like a really good game...it just has "Xbox" written all over it. But just to be fair..FFXIII has PS3 written all over it too...but is that really a bad thing?
I was looking at the big picture myself with PS3...Right now there is really nothing that grabs me like Lost Planet, BioShock and Halo 3 but I know once the Ico's and Ratchets among some sick new innovations start pouring out...I'll one happy milkdrinker.

Damn skippy!
But.... there is the possibility that these types of games might not ever see the light of day, on any next-gen platform. Why? Because developing costs for next-gen are so high that to make games that appeal only to gamers who appreciate those types of "niche" titles is possible financial suicide. Games like Ico, Stranger's Wrath, SotC, Psychonauts, Okami, and Beyond G&E were critically acclaimed, but bombed where it counts, and that's sales. That's why we now have no more Clover. No more Oddworld Inhabitants. *tear rolls down Knife's cheek* It might be kind of hard to sell 500,000 copies of a game just to break even, especially if those great games couldn't do that with a 50 million user installed base.
Ahem.
Anyways, I'm still looking foward to what the top-1st and 2nd party devs will be able to do on the system. Just look at Drake's Fortune. The greens look as good as the greens in Crysis(assuming they're animated). Who couldn't be pumped for that? NEO360. I just hope the game turns out to be more than a Tomb Raider clone, which I'm sure it will, but that's what the image reminds me of.
To quote '78, "three words are all it took to make me want the" PS3. next generation Gradius. I go where the shmups go. Why else do you see me on Live Arcade more than any other games? I'm not playing retro titles boys. Well, I guess Time Pilot is retro. but still, it's a shmup.

We truly need the alternative titles. I don't want just typical hyperbole games and nothing else to play. Regardless of how I personally feel about a game or not...I know when it's good to have no matter what. I don't play Sports, Driving or Strategy much, but I'm happy to see all these genres available for my console(s).
Some Gamers like Waco or Neo just don't care...if it's not on 360...it ain't sh*t. Hey I know a good game when I see one and right now as much as I love my PS3. 360 just has what I want at this point in time...and I don't honestly know how much more graphical abuse my PC will take...(hey I shed tears to Knifey...it's ok son!)
Live Arcade is really cool but to be honest, I've made 2 micro purchases on the PS store. I bought Lemmings and Blast Factor. I always loved the Lemmings games and I wanted to compare Blast Factor to Geometry Wars Evo. Basically the exact same idea...just one has better visuals.
I just Cleared Lost Planet yesterday BTW....suweeet!

Insomniac is doing Ratchet and Clank PS3 and then after that they'll move onto Resistance 2.
What I want to know is what the God of War studio is going to be cooking up for the PS3. As much as a God of War 3 would appeal to me, I think they should come up with another new action game. Other then that Sony's World Wide Studios currently have 100 titles in the works for the PS3. Let's get some info on all of them.

Yeah, it's a bad thing. Could be a bad thing if they stick to the same old gameplay, badly designed characters, heavy FMV usage, etc. that has always been in their PS1 & 2 titles.
As far as Mass Effect, I think you can do more than just shoot, like (possibly, I can't remember though) melee attacks and "dark powers" that are supposed to be stronger than Force powers. Either way, I'll take it.
What is White Knight Story about? I tried looking for info on the game soon after I got my PS3, but couldn't find any.
I hope there's some info coming soon about some of those games listed within a couple of months. I need to plan out my '07 game buying calendar.

Personally I wouldn't say this is really a "bad" thing, while it seems a bit typical and even funny to a certain degree...Lost Planet, considering it was a Japanese dev was heavy in the shooting department and had an Xbox feel to it. Mind you I really enjoyed this title and cleared it within a week or so.
Mass Effect looks impressive. I like the fact I can shoot in an RPG. I have been waiting a long time for an action RPG like this.
FF12 took some of the best Ideas from KOTOR and JE and blended with a sweet FF storyline...this is the first FF since FF7 that I can't put down.

Folken, I checked out some of the White Knight trailer, along with finding some info from GI where they had TGS coverage.
I also read a little bit about FF Verses XIII. It sounds like that could be an action/rpg, since the guy who made Kingdom Hearts is making this one (I think). That one bit of info put this game on my interest list, though it's low on the list since the game probably won't show up until '09.

The new starwars game looks sick. IGN has the trailer. It sorta reminds me of PSI-OPS (come on Midway wheres the sequel after that cliff hanger ending). I think this may be one game where we see some real next gen gameplay.

Info from GI via GAF:
Got my copy of GI right in front of me...here's what I see so far:
-Release is "winter 2007"
-single player only it seems
"After hearing about the game's cinematic story, seeing the technology that backs up the exciting plotline, and playing the game for ourselves, we're sure about one thing. This is one title that should give hold-outs against the pricey PS3 a reason to pause and look again."
-They want an emotional story, and so far there's fifty minutes of cinematics.
-They have an awesome animation scheme that allows for over 1,200 different unique ways of doings things like taking cover. There's nine screens of Drake taking cover behind a pillar...all of them completely different stances. Freaking awesome. (the final game will have 3,000)
-Sixaxis allows for some tilting moments, like crossing a narrow log and balancing, Kratos-style.
-more on the unique animations: if Drake is running across an open field, he will visibly become more and more out of breath, his entire body shaking if he runs enough. His face will show all these emotions as well.
-Everything in the jungle shifts and sways, with dynamic shadowing, and high-dynamic range lighting.
-soundtrack is also dynamic
-graphics are really, really good looking. I can't imagine how this thing is gonna look in real time...crazy.
And that's it...most of the time was spent on the tech and the story, less so with gameplay...which sounds like it's still a ways off.
MORE INFO:
While much of the article explains how great the story will be while not actually getting into details, the opening paragraph gives us a nice clue:
"Sir Francis Drake had a wealth of titles to his name by the time he died at sea in the winter of 1596. To his English Countrymen, he was a hero...an explorer who circumnavigated the globe, a sea captain who sunk dozens of ships in the Spanish Armada, and a knight by Queen Elizabeth's own hand. To his enemies, he was the worst sort of villain...a marauder that heartlessly destroyed their ports and colonies, a pirate that ceaselessly stole their chests of gold, spices and jewels. Whatever people called him, his infamous adventuring career came to an end when his body was tipped over the side of his ship off the coast of Panama some 400 years ago. But what if that lead coffin held no body? What if there was instead a mysterious book that hinted at his last great adventure? What if you found that book?"
The Audio Director speaks: "If I could have a metric for how well the game is doing sound-wise, it would be how far I can get through this game with my eyes closed."
While vehicles aren't a main focus in the game, they'll be there. One concept screen shows a jeep with you in the turret seat, another level has you piloting a jetski navigating submerged buildings and looking for clues. Still another has white-water rapids in another chase scene.
Naughty Dog (paraphrasing here): "With PS1, we had to go very simplistic...cartoonish. With PS2, we could take it up a notch with Jak but not quite human yet. With the PS3, we can finally do full-on human gaming while taking all of our great gameplay from past games we've done into this."
All cinematics are motion-captured with a director on the set...it's like a real movie (a la Heavenly Sword).
You won't be alone, as the girl in the mag cover shows (like Half-Life 2 in a way).
GI sums up the game: It's Die Hard meets Indiana Jones, with gameplay that goes back to Prince of Persia and Tomb Raider and gun segments like Gears of War. Ultimately however, it's a new genre that's unclassifiable at this point.
Oh, and graphics are Blue Steel, but will be Magnum in videos and when it comes out much later in the year for sure.
FINAL INFO:
Here's the part where GI gets some hands on time with the game:
"Control of the action was in our hands in the level that followed. Nathan finds himself in a stunning moss-covered forest, with a streaming waterfall nearby. Climbing the rocks, we ascended up out of the basin. A wide gap between the cliffs above required a wild leap to the opposing ledge. Barely grasping the far edge, Nathan banged hard against the hard rock wall, knocking his breath away before we pulled up and over onto the far side.
A downed tree in the next area served to illustrate one of the game's uses of the Sixaxis controller. As we walked Nathan across the narrow beam, we controlled his balance by twisting the controller from side to side, which unsurprisingly resulted in him tumbling belly first onto the log before we managed to inch him across.
Once there, we heard the shouted arrival of enemy pirates, soon to be followed by whizzing bullets. As Nathan instinctively ducked, we ran him for cover behind a nearby boulder. Leaning out amid heavy returning fire, a few wild shots from Nathan's pistol dropped his foes, and we ran forward to a hanging vine to continue our climb.
Next, we saw the first signs of the strange, misplaced Spanish ruins of the island as more scruffy pirates arrived to attack us. Diving from rock to tree amid a hail of gunfire, we occasionally scurried aside at the sound of a grenade dropping by our feet.
Standing still for very long is almost never an option, as enemies are constantly flanking for a better position. With another wave of pirates defeated, we platformed from one ruined Spanish wall to another to reach an ancient metal grate. A button press event sent it spinning off its rusted hinges, and beyond, another troop of pirates poured over an old wall as the music swelled into high gear."

I've never played a Naughty Dog game. I didn't even know what Naughty Dog was until today. Jungle platformer with a dose of stealth and HDR all over the place? Well I guess I'll have to see. But I've never been one for 3D platformers. I like all my platformers 2D, I guess I just suck at 3D platformers.
