View Full Version : Crossing back'n forth/Halo
Ok guys, as you may well know, Halo has been released for PC.
I come here to ask if there are any Xbots that can compare the two versions of PC & Xbox, i.e.: any significant difference?
I plan on Box purchase [aprox Dec] & know Halo would be inexpensive by then.
However, gogamer.com has a 48 hour sale on PC halo for $34.
Jesus, I've wanted this game since it hit the Box, now I am tempted w/PC version. What to do, what to do [lol].
If anyone has played the PC Halo or heard that its near identical to Xbox version, I appreciate feedback.

It's like this, the single player game is virtually identical on PC vs. Xbox but the multiplayer is superior on PC because there actually is OFFICIAL online multiplayer and there are more maps, 2 new weapons, and the ability to fly the banshee is here in the PC version as well.
but...
From an Xbox owner to a possible Xbox owner, I gotta tell you, hold out on Halo PC UNLESS your PC is CUTTING EDGE. I've already seen Halo on a 1.7GHz with 128 meg video card and 1 gig of RAM and it ran like ASS.
If you are looking at getting the Xbox in Dec. I strongly suggest picking up a different FPS, especially if you are going to get LIVE. Halo was incredible for the first 1000 hours but eventually it got old. I haven't picked it up in months. Return to Castle Wolfenstien as of right now is the best thing going on XBOX LIVE IMO.

I almost considered picking up Halo for the PC. However, since the campaign modes of each are identical, I decided not to. Also, I've become quite accustomed to the controller and prefer that for my FPS games. However, that is my preference ...
IMO, I wouldn't wait till December to play Halo. If you've never played it, and your PC can handle it, by all means get the PC version. The main campaign is one of the most compelling story lines in a game. Great level design, great AI, and very good weapon ballance make Halo stand out above the other FPS's.
The only thing you're missing on the PC version is the coop play. If you have someone who regularly plays games with you, then get the Xbox version. Halo is probably the best coop game I've ever played.

I've been hearing that requriements for Halo/PC are steep.
I think Im set though [P4 2.66/G4128mb ti/ 512 rd ram].
Most likely what will happen is I'll end up w/both versions. I ordered the PC version last night. My nephew is dying for the Xbox version & will pick it up.
Thanks guys for help regarding the differences.

Listen it goes down like this:
Get the Xbox V if you have a lot of friends with xboxes and can rent Halo or have it.
Get the Com V if you like to play online with people you bearly know & for percision aiming.
I have the Xbox V which I attend to Halo Tournments every other couple months.

Let us know what you think. And don't hold back ... I wanna hear what a PC gamer thinks of Halo.
Personally, I've played through Halo about 9 times now. I know, I have a problem.

Will do.It will be some time though, my opportunity to game has dwindled, you see, a while back I took on a Moderating job....... ;)
I hope I enjoy it as much as you [obviously] have Darwin.
The most repeated gameplay I've enjoyed is Deus Ex. Played through complete on all dif's. Played several more times [incomplete] to experince alternate outcome of plot [i.e.LaGuardia Airport: Who to kill].
Well, back to conclusion of Shock 2.

I think Huntercell said it best.
Halo is a GREAT single player game (just ask Darwin or myself). But Halo is also much more than that.
I think the PC might be the way to go if:
1) you like playing your FPSs thru the keyboard and mouse
2) you have "the system" for it
3) you wanna play against other people online
Personally...
number 1 is definitely not for me...
I don't know if I have "the system" (PC) for it (but even if I did, I could not get past number one)...
as much as I would've liked to have played online, I am okay without it.
The XBox version would be the way to go for you, if you (like me):
1) are okay with the XBox controller
2) would like to play thru the game co-operatively with a friend (which is even better than single player, imo)
3) like to get a bunch of people together and hook-up, up to, 4 TVs and XBoxs via System Link and have, up to, 16 people playing the game in one house/under one roof! (Which is why I am over not being able to play Halo online. And this also why it's my number one favorite game of all-time!)
Plus, with regards to the sale price for the PC version...
Yeah Halo still carries a regular price of $49.99 (US), but it regularly (an by that I mean it is often) found on sale (like at Best Buy or Circuit City) for $39.99 or less.

Halo xbox and halo pc are pretty much the same. The pc version has better graphics (of course) and you can play over a network. Or you can play online. Of course your xbox wont freeze and ur pc will (only con). if i had neither an xbox or a pc version of halo... id buy the pc version. If your planning on buying an xbox for the sole purpose of playing Halo... its a waste of money. But if your buying an xbox anyways, get the Xbox halo and if u want to play online, just hook up ur xbox (if you have dsl/cable).
