I snagged my PS3 on launch day along with my sick new HDTV. Resistance and COD 3 look fantastic. So I decided to try some PS2 games knowing non HD (480i) games never look good on an HDTV. But I started really taking notice of just how terrible they look. Far worse then the way my PS2 displayed them.

Most games if not all have these obscure looking Jaggies...I mean riddled with them. Everything from Titles to pictures...and gameplay graphics are almost unbearable. I even hooked the PS3 up to my old 27 incher to see if this was just my HDTV. The Same jaggies were apparent.

This goes beyond an aliasing issue. I think this is a Pixel flipping issue that PS3 is prone too with RSX and emulation. I hope a firmware update fixes all this.

I posted some pics and provided some links to show you what I mean.

I hope Sony gets this message and works on something fast.

One of the many reasons why I passed on the ps3. If I had bought one, it would've been to play ps2 games I've missed on. Extra jaggies on ps2 games. Hell, ps2 games have enough jaggies as it is. Couple that with the lack of rumble with the ps3 and having to buy an adapter to transfer over ps2 saves and well, forget about it.

When and if I get a ps3, its the ps3 library that will have to do the convincing. I'll be keeping the slmline ps2 for as long as it holds out. The ps2 actually had the ability to smooth out textures a little bit with the psone games.

As I stated months and months ago, expect the ps3 to follow in the footsteps of the psp and be firmware update hell.

The same thing happened on the PS2 with PSOne games. Not only was there jaggies and pixelation, but the colors were dithered all to hell. And with a HDTV, there's really not a whole lot you can do. Contrary to the article, I think it is (mainly) a TV and game issue. When I got a flatscreen with a tricomb filter (not HDTV) PSone games took a considerable hit. PS1 and PS2 games just aren't made for hidef. I just don't think they'll play well together. Maybe you can compensate with emulation on a regular TV, (like the bleemcast on the DC) but hidef? I doubt it.

The one saving grace is PS2 games with Progressive Scan. These games look normal even in 480i, 480p is just what you would expect. The games lacking Prog scan just look like azz even on a standard def display.

I think a firmware update will fix this issue. Sony is aware of this problem and are working out a solution. Bring it.

These problems are more apparent via HDMI, I mean standard def content just won't look good as 480P and hidef games on such displays. Regardless, I think that emulation will fix these problems once and for all. There's a huge firmware update scheduled for the EURO launch, I'm thinking that the emulation software will be part of that, these guys are in the testing phase atm.

Sometimes I think I'm a special person, cuz the PS2 I bought at launch 6 or so years ago still works to this day. Never had a hitch with it.

You and me, both, Papa. I still have my original Tekken Tag that I bought with the system. My favorite game of the PS2 ever. Still gets played a lot.

I'm on my 2nd PS2 right now. I was carrying my old one downstairs when I accidently stepped on my jackass stupid cat who was sleeping on the second to last step. I slipped, the cat screamed, and the drop down the remaining 14 hardwood floor steps proved Slades console droppage theory wrong (he lied to us all).

But on a good note, the case didn't crack. So I went to Wal-Mart and got an exchange. Said it was my birfdah presant and it dun brok.

Obviously you don't know what the console droppage theory was. I bet you didn't lose any of your saves. You could not have said that if it had been an Xbox.

Mwe heh heh heh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I had my PS2 until I sold it about a month or so ago. Quality piece of hardware. Got banged around a bit, but still held its own. Whenever I carry it around, I get really paranoid and scared. I hold it tightly with two hands and look exactly where I'm walking and what's coming up on me. I could never forgive myself if anything happened to it.

Same here. I was trying to move my PS2 and although I unplugged it, the cord was hung up on something behind the TV stand. Its slipped from my hands... crash boom... and I'm on the way to Target for another PS2. At the time I didn't know about Walmart's generous return policy. It was right before those slim ones hit the market too.

I bought a new Xbox about 6 months ago. And I'll be getting a new PS2(slimmed down version) for Christmas. Both consoles just started acting goofy. The PS2 made loud clicking sounds and would load anything. And the Xbox was skipping over alot of videos for most of my games.

Not to mention games was crashing at times. I plan to take better care of these two. Especially since I plan to be putting a 360 right next to them come April. These consoles can add up on ya after a while. :cryin:

I agree Mochan, but I also love my b/c for the 360, PS2, and I'll love that the Wii and the PS3 have it. As long as these problems get fixed with a patch.
