View Full Version : New to Cube
Im setting up cube for two person activity.
Suggestions needed for two person gaming activity.
Looking for arcade stlye gaming fun; driver racing type games.
[nothing too serious, just plain fun].
It has been requested of me to find a couple titles similar to N64's Pod Racer games [again, anything two gamers can compete playing side by side]. Request is from younger gamers [10 to 15] in age.
Thanks!

Mario Party is good... and not just for 10-15 year olds. Smugglers Run is another decent game.

As far as fun racing games, Burnout 2: Point of Impact is pretty fun (single player), but I am unsure how fun the multiplayer is for the game.

Burnout 2: Point of impact [Ive been there], sounds like quarter mile drag racing w/o brakes, lol.
Is this new/old title for GC?

Same Mario Party that was available on N64?

I'd give Mario Golf a try. Think of it as a competitive action game, not a sports simulation. I hate golf, but I like Mario Golf a lot. Seriously, even if you hate sports games, this one deserves a rental at least.
Tube Sliders is a good two player racing game, if you can find it. It's not a combat racer, it's all about speed, pure and simple.
For an arcade style action/puzzler, give Bust A Move 3000 a shot. For younger gamers, it doesn't have the mind breaking intensity of Tetris Worlds (a great game, btw) and is easy to pick up and play. Head to head play is awesome.
Be sure to get at least two memory cards, so each of them can run their own saves in single player games. Some GC games see both memory card slots, and some do not.

Mario Party doesn't seem fun to me unless you've got 4 players. It requires 4 "players" so if you've only got 2 humans, the other two players are played by the computer.
The most fun multi-player games are Super Smash Brothers, the fight game, and even better to me is Monkey Ball II; it has so many modes, great single player mode and tons of party games (Monkey Target and Monkey Fight have been big hits at my house.)
Racing is sorta weak in the Cube's line-up, but if you're looking for Pad Racer style action, you must not mind sickening speeds so you MUST get F-Zero. And everyone is right about Burnout II, its fun, but it may be available cheaper used for PS2 if you have one of those. It goes without saying you have to get Mario Kart: Double Dash when it comes out.
One other two player game, if you like old school shooters and have skills, is Ikaruga. It has a two player co-op mode; make sure your second player has major old-school skills too.
Finally, yes, Mario Golf is totally sweet multi-player. It even has a trippy co-op mode where you take turns whacking the same ball through a course. This isn't like any realistic golf game, the courses are bizarre, you can get the ball to land in a warp pipe (hard to do) and it'll pop out on the green; there are Chain Chomps in some of the traps, and the Bowser level even has ghosts in the sky. Beautiful to look at and a joy to play. I bring this one to xbox Halo parties as an appetizer or as a chillout game for late leaving stragglers, and it is surprisingly popular (at least if you go by the stereotypical xbot "kitty" haters around here. They aren't all like that in real life.)
Have fun.

"Same Mario Party that was available on N64?"
Same type of gameplay, new minigames. It plays fine with only 2 players, but as noted above it tends to get better with 4... but I could top THAT by saying it gets EVEN better with a case of beer...

Yup, "..sickening speeds.." is what were looking for.
Burnout2 & F-Zero are on the list.

You might also want to check out X-treme G3 or the upcoming XGra.
Also the upcoming Star Wars Rebel Strike for GC has a two player co-op mode.

Yep, with weapons. There's as much combat as there is racing.
Another upcoming game to consider is Mario Kart.

Yup, it's on the Cube, as well as the other 2 systems. hopefully, the price has dropped on it since it's been in stores since early 2003.
