View Full Version : For Resident Evil fans: Why didnt we get to destroy Umbrella in the end?

Back when I was a Playstation owner one game truly made me very happy that I owned a PSX. And that was a game by the name of Resident Evil. This game scared the crap out of me from start to finish. Then came Resident Evil 2. That game was simply fun and carnage.(Oh the shotgun headshots) From there each incarnation kept getting better and better.(I still consider Code Veronica for the Dreamcast the best of them all next to the original) The thing I loved about RE other than the blood and the gore was the storyline concerning Umbrella.

A storyline that continued until RE4 starring Leon. Now heres what I'm a little pissed off about RE4. Too many loose ends that was never cleared up. I mean you look from RE2 to RE3 to Code Veronica to Resident Evil Zero. Too many characters are still out there that was never heard from again. Rebecca,Claire, Jill Valentine, and Chris Redfield all disappeared.

And they never explained what happened to any of them. Not to mention how in the blue hell did Ada make a comeback in RE4? Didnt she bite it hard on both scenarios on RE2? Yep. So how is she back? And why do we have to use Leon? What about Chris? What about Claire? What about Jill? Did these characters simply disappear? Did they go crazy? Get captured? Did they die? I mean Capcom should've told us something.

Plus I didnt like the fact that after all these years of playing RE Capcom decides to kill using Zombies and use deranged villagers instead? No way. Bring back the Zombies, bring back the Lickers, bring back the dogs, and bring back those damn Hunters!!

They can keep Jason wearing the potato sack sporting the chainsaw gimme some Zombies for crying out loud! (I heard the next RE is supposed to have Zombies back again)

Plus, the storyline starts with Umbrella simply folding and life goes on? Bulls---!

After all the hell we went through playing all of the Resident Evil games dont you think that we deserved to have had the chance to put Umbrella down once and for all? I think so. Too many loose ends was never cleared up.

The new touches in the gameplay is okay. The over the shoulder view was ok. I preferred the old fashioned 3rd person point of view. But thats just me. So do any of you feel the same as I do? That those loose ends should've been tied up? Or do you like the direction the series has taken now?

I have the REmake for the GC, and I got to the part where you kill the Crimson Zombie from the tomb (after finding the four masks), but then I never got any further. Part of it is I'm too creeped out to go back and finish the game, since whenever I turn it on I'm always on the edge of my seat and my nerves are constantly frayed. That's mainly because of two things: the static camera angles, and the control system.

When they made RE4 (which I haven't played yet, apart from the demo), they gave Leon a behind-the-back view, which means if it's easier to move him around, then the scares have to come from somewhere else, namely faster enemies. What's the point of having slow-moving zombies if you can zip around anywhere you want?

And while I haven't played any of the games (apart from REmake), I do know that if they did tie up the story with Umbrella, then the RE series would get pretty boring. I mean the whole pull of the story is Umbrella and their experimentation, so if you take them down, then what?

Did RE4 make it to the PC yet? I'd like to see the game have standard FPS controls, so I can zip around anywhere I want. :)

Would be far less scary though, indeed, as you wouldn't feel so "helpless."

Not that I know of. Hell, it'd be more like CounterStrike Evil 4: running around, headshotting those stupid villagers, and saving the princess.

Oh excuse me...I meant the President's daughter.

In the RE remake on the GC these zombies are a little different. You have to burn some of the zombies or cut their heads off to keep them dead. If you dont they do come back to get you. And they are even faster than before. They actually run after you this time. Real scarey stuff!!

I agree that whats the point in having slow moving zombies if you can zip around anywhere you want. I agree. Thats why in the next one I hope they have zombies like they did in the Night of the living dead/ Land of the Dead movies. Where zombies actually ran after you and used weapons at their disposal. Wouldnt that be a nice touch?

Plus the storyline in the rest of the RE games are so interesting. You owe it to yourself to play them. The over the shoulder cam should've been optional instead his primary view. In most games you can change points of view. This game should have been the same.

I've actually played RE4 for the PS2. Its a good game. A little bit too creepy at times. But I never finished it. Anyway, I just wish I could have had the chance to finish Umbrella after everything most of us had to go through beating these hard ass games! :mad2:

No, I dont believe its on the PC game front yet. In Code Veronica, once you beat the game they actually had a mini-game that allowed you to use a first person point of view during gameplay. It actually wasnt bad. But I wouldnt want to have a entire game of RE with that angle though. It would kinda take away from the effect. Besides they tried that once on the PS2 a while back. The game stank.

You're right, it would be less scary if they did that. Let us hope that never happens.:D

Yeah I've always wanted to finish REmake. I force myself to play it every now then...for all of 3 minutes, before I turn it off and pop in Super Smash Bros. I actually want to finish it so I can buy RE0 and play that one, and then RE4. I'm starting to think that will never happen though hehe.

Yeah Neo, I know about the Crimson Heads. I killed two zombies in a hallway (a pretty important hallway too), and running through it once they BOTH jumped and started chasing me. I left the room, so now I have two of those things in one hallway just waiting for me...

Damn you Capcom!!

**********RE story spoilers, if you care.*************

Well, Mr. NEO, if you would've played all the way through RE4, you'd know that Umbrella is not done. If you were to play the other RE titles on the PS2(the light-gun styles and the 2 online games), you'd find out more about what's going down with certain characters in Umbrella. Mainly in the form of Case File deals, where you read text on events.

In case you missed it in 2, Ada falls, but they don't show where she lands. Assuming this is the correct ending.

I believe that Chris is the star of 5.

And I also liked the way REmake was done, but RE4 was simply the sh!t. It almost gave me the same kind of feeling I got when I played RE on the PS1 way back when.

Despite the greatness that is the RE series, I still prefer Silent Hill over any other adventure/action-horror. Maybe because it's more adventure than action. And the stories kill RE.

There's also RE novelizations by D.S. Perry if you really want to follow the other character's storylines. There is a separate game (not the GC minigame, this is PS2 only) called Separate ways (I think) that you unlock when you beat RE4 where Ada is playble in her own lengthy storyline. You find out a bit more her about her and how she cross sections Leon's storyline behind the scenes. But she's a super spy. She's supposed to have an air of mystery about her.

I've played every survival horror game for the PS2 minus 1 (Obscure) and I didn't complete 4: Siren (ridiculously hard) Haunting Grounds and Fatal Frame 3 (got bored, I'll finish them one day) and Cold Fear (I thought it just sucked). There is another recently released survival horror title I think, but the name escapes me.

Hey Cuddly if you like the adventure aspect, I would recommend Kuon. It's more adventuring than combat and it's pretty damn creepy to boot. Very underrated.

Yeah I would have to say you will want to finish REmake before ) especially if you have never played through RE1 as it will spoil some plot for you if you play 0 before its completion.

When Ada fell in RE2 she was shot by the female doctor before she fell. That was some fall for her to survive. I hope that Chris Redfield is the star of RE5. The GC Remake was great. I only saw some of it not all of it though. And with RE4 I only played up to about where that creature in the lake is dragging you all over the place in the boat.

Overall I like RE4 but nothing will ever have me scared out of my mind like the original on the PSX did. I agree Silent Hill is more creepy with a little more adventure. RE is more in your face. I cant wait to see what the next RE brings new to the survival horror genre. Thanks CK.

Damn, dude, that was barely the end of the first level! 6 chapters total, for more than 20 hours of non-stop action, action, action.

Oh yeah, the original PS1 game was like nothing I ever played, and me and my friend played it straight through nonstop, the first time I played it. We did the same for part 2 also. Part 3 was a let-down IMO.

I probably would've gotten further but it was my brothers game anyway so there was nothing I could do.when I get the chance I will play it again. I love playing games like RE. Plus I still to this day have the original Resident Evil in its original case from day one. Those are hard to come by.

The original was indeed cheesy with the voice acting but everything else was scarey as hell!! I still get a little nervous walking down the hallway right before the dogs jump through the window. I never played RE3:Nemesis. I heard alot about it though. Code Veronica was indeed fun as hell too. But I will have my 360 by the time RE5 shows up next year. Count on that!!!!

Damn you guys make we want to get back into the RE mood. How the hell do you play through a game that keeps you stressed out??

I just can't do it.

Cuddly Knife

RE gives you stress? I played it more like an action game, since it really is. Once you realize that you can run past anything(except the dogs, almost), it's over. Fatal Frame 2 is tense. So is Pyramid Head.

Back in the glory days of the videogame world most gamers back then didnt have the flashy videos, the killer graphics, or the internet to turn to for advise. What was left? A challenge. Alot of games back in the NES era ranged from silly to challenging to ready to take a hammer to your console and call it a day.

These types of games made you think and made you in the long run a better gamer. Did those games stress us out? HELL YEAH!!! But IMO games back then truly helped make me the better gamer I am today. Dont let the game stress you out ilnadmy. When a game starts to totaly frustrate you stop playing it for about a week or so then get back to it. Sometimes that little breather helps a bunch.:aureola:

When I play games like Splinter Cell, Ninja Gaiden, MGS;etc. I sit there and laugh because games like these are indeed hard, but comparing these games to the old NES era I would dare say those games back then were alot harder than the games of today IMO.

If you didnt have games to challenge you whats the use in buying them then? Yes it is to be entertained as well as to be challenged. But for me as long as the challenge is there the graphics doesnt have to wow me. Thats just me.

Haha I don't mean stress you out as in difficult, I mean stress you out as in scary, creepy atmosphere. I don't mind a challenge (I'm playing through God of War on God Mode, and Call of Duty 2 on Veteran after all), but it's horror that really gets to me.

I know I am. I'm currently playing SC:Double Agent on hard and Ninja Gaiden Black on a harder level as well. Nothing to fear but fear itself. Thats what you need to tell yourself while playing the Resident Evil games. :p

When you get a chance you should buy the rest of the RE series. Great games to own. Survival horror is so cool. I love being scared while playing. I love playing RE games at night in the dark. It adds to it all. :D

Cuddly Knife's got jokes? Ha-ha.:D

If you've played Ninja Gaiden Black you would know that there are two difficulty levels: Normal & Hard. I've beaten the game on Normal now I'm trying to beat it on hard. I'm trying to unlock those other costumes all those other things that hidden in the game. Not too easy.

When RE5 comes out will you be buying it Cuddly Knife:? I definately will be.

I made that joke because a while back(maybe on AOE forum) you and I spoke of NG, and you were talking about how hard of a time you were having with it. The joke was about you weak-saucing it on Ninja Dog. You can get the Ninja Dog difficulty if you die a number of times in a row on Normal, I think.

Of course I've played Black. Look up my GTag to see how I rank. The only difficulty I didn't beat it on was Master Ninja, and that's because I got out of playing NGB, so when i tried to pick it back up on Master Ninja, it was too hard and my skills too weak. My score for Hard is lower than all of the others, because I played that difficulty first so I could check out the new enemies and rooms and such, but it kicked my ass all over the place. I did a little better when I got back to Normal, and I also did decent on Very Hard.

I'll probably have RE5 pre-ordered ASAP. The only problem is figuring out which system to buy it on. The PS3, or 360?

That slipped my mind. LOL! You got me on that one. Kudos for that.

My skills on NGB arent bad but my Ninja techniques probably is not as good as yours.(I'm a bit rusty) After I beat it the first time I basically left the game alone. Then all of a sudden I decided to play it again. Those bonus missions are a hell of alot harder than going through the whole game. But I'm going to try yet again to beat it.

Since I plan on having me a 360 by April no doubt I'll be buying RE5 for the 360.

78 was online yesterday but he never replied to anyone though. The AOE forum was indeed a trip and a half.

If any of you guys could add something to the next chapter of Resident Evil what would it be? For me? I want better zombies. I want Zombies that will run after you and chase you down.Plus I would like for zombies to be able to use weapons against you as well.

Plus I want more enviromental interaction.(Like in Dead Rising)

This little extra feature would help a ton especially when you are running low on ammo. If Umbrella makes a comeback I hope Capcom allows us the chance to whip Umbrella's candy ass and finally put the nail in the coffin for them!

Plus I want the Hunters back. I miss those overgrown Gremlin's on steriods. Miss the lickers too.

Well, since the series has only gotten more arcade action/horror than adventure/horror, I'd like to be able to move my character while aiming. That would also allow for better enemy AI. Something like Gears of War, where the enemies try to flank you.

I want more QTEs like how they did the knife fight in RE4, and maybe bring back the different story gameplay segments from Nemesis(where you choose whether to fight or run, and other types of choices).

And no more babysitting missions.

Plus I want more enviromental interaction.(Like in Dead Rising)There really isn't environment interaction in Dead Rising. You can pick up a ridiculous amount of items to use as weapons, but not every item you see can be used. The main attraction for this game is the interaction with the zombies.

The part I really would like to see is being able to pick up a ridiculous amount of items and being able to use them as weapons. I mean it is a Capcom game. Why cant this be added to the RE gameplay? I mean the game is labled Survival horror isnt it? Yep. So why not be able to use anything at your disposal in order to survive? Its time to take the RE gameplay to another level at this point.
