"Sony could make bricks and people would still buy them"
Bill Gates has dismissed the retail challenge of the PlayStation 3 this Christmas, stating the Xbox 360 is in line for a strong season - while the real success will be measured in a year's time.
Speaking to News.com, Gates said of Sony, "I wouldn't change positions with them in a million years. I mean, we know what it's like to be a year late. We feel great about the position that we're in."
Noting the brand power of PlayStation, albeit by knocking the competitor, he added: "Sony can make 80,000 bricks, and people would buy them. So the real competition – you're going to see the impact of our innovation and all the momentum we have in Christmas 2007."
"This Christmas the story is: Xbox 360 is going to sell super-well, and [Sony will] sell the rounding error amounts they can make," he added.
OK, so the "selling bricks" and "rounding-error" production levels jab at Ps3 are funny. But you gotta wonder how out of touch this guy is if he still really thinks the "year late" thing was shy Ps2 outsold Xbox 5:1. And what "momentum" is he talking about?
If launching a year ahead is the whole key, then why is 360 still selling more poorly than the ancient, saturated Ps2? Why is it selling 7% less than Xbox did in it's first year? Selling LESS is NOT momentum.
Like Mochan says, the higher up you get, the more clueless you get because your subordinate (supplicant) employees feed you flattering BS. Yeah, the Xbox was duh best, it was just a year late. And 360 is doing "super-well." Yeah, Bill. Enjoy your Xmas availability. Laugh it up; afterall, it was totally easy to get your hands on a 360 last Xmas

Or he's just making a statement to a media outlet to show his support for the 360 and try to play down Sony's challenge to 360 supporters.

What. Bill Gates aint no douchebag, well not for saying that, I though that what he said was well put as well as humourous. It's true too, you can't really argue that it's not.
And gaddy, you think it's going to easier to get a PS3 this Xmas? **** no you're on glue.

Usually I think it's pointless to argue over what these big name figures say. They say what they say with a motive. It's not what they think honestly. If Bill Gates believes what he said, he'd be a dumbass. But Bill Gates isn't a dumbass. So the conclusion is he didn't mean what he said.

It's like how Rocky became fat lazy and stupid in old age. Bill Gates may have been smart and shrewd, but lately? Easy target I guess. It's just funny to watch him engage in Sys Wars with much less skill than pretty much any of you guys.
If anything cemented my decision to pull out the "Gates is a douchebag" comment, it was his use of "super-well."

I believe Sega's Sonic is going to be in the upcoming Smash Bros; so yes, most of us do expect to eventually see a Smash Bros that will feature Master Chef. A fully holographic Smash Bros controlled with your mind.
Nintendo's been doing the game-thing for over a hundred years. MS is a pimple on Nintendo's ass, and is a company on the decline. Their entire business model is on the way out. Even their lucrative OS, business software, browser division is finally facing competition.
Yep, someday we will finally be able to prove to you guys that Samus can kick Master Chef's ass!!! :D

Sonic in a Mario game? I hadn't heard about that. Man, and I thought Fender making Hello Kitty guitars was weird, until I saw that Hello Kitty and Blues Clues are joining forces. Expect blue and pink apple sauce in a supermarket near you soon.
Everything Bill Gates says is designed to stroke his stockholders, who collectively have the tech knowledge of a turnip. I saw him on Charlie Rose (another techno-nothing) the other day, and Gates was spewing true Orwellian crap. You see, we who buy windoze machines are 'customers'. Companies who develop apps for Windows machines are 'competitors'. Now, as a lesson in economics, let me ask you. Does Bill Gates make more $ from we schmucks who buy a Dell/HP/Gatway whatever, or from licensing fees from charging his 'competitors'.?
he be strokin', that's what he be doin'....

Obviously. His motive was to condition you to think that the PS3 is cheap at $600 as does what a PC does at over $1000.

Ahh I see. It was a sales pitch then? Gotcha.:blush2:

Most definitely! Though I think his Movie Launch Poster is a better sales pitch.

Yeah, if they posted those up at Best Buys, EB Games, and GameStops, then not many people would be buying anything else...
