OK, so much for getting a Wii. Didn't get a pre-order, drove around this morning a couple hours before target, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc open, and every place I went had lines all the way around the building. (I even went outside of San Francisco to see if the suburban stores were any better)

After the first Target I drove by, I didn't care whether they had enough systems to actually cover everyone in line (which I doubt), I'm just not hardcore enough about anything to stand in that kind of line. I drove by a lot of other stores--Circuit Cities, Best Buys and Targets-- just out of curiousity to see how big the crowds were. I honestly never expected to see anything like that, and I wish I had brought a camera. I don't know if these size lines at so many different stores is just regional (San Franciso/Bay Area) or if even stores in the mid-west were swamped this morning with Wii-hunters.

I saw in the Wii forum Pandarbock had no problem getting a Wii. How'd everyone else fare?

Wii need to stop these horrible puns.

On a more serious note, I'm interested in hearing about who got a Wii, what's it like, etc...

I went yesterday too. Wal Mart only scheduled to have 32 units and my friend and I were 35th and 36th in line. We were there around 7 hours before midnight. We waited for 2 hours until the weather got too cold. We decided to just leave.

My friend just called me though and told me that he just walked into a wal mart this morning and got himself a wii. I guess it's good that I didnt' waste 7 hours after all.

I watched some of Gamespot's live Wii coverage in NY. It looked like people assembling in Times Square for New Years Eve. The big difference between the people lining up for a wii and the people lining up for a ps3, the people lining up for a wii wanted to play it, not resell it. The ps3 had its two days of publicity, not its all about the wii.

If the wii is like the DS, you should see quick replenishments. Nintendo wants to sell systems and get them into the hands of gamers. Starting tomorrow, in one of the big malls where I live, nintendo will be demoing their system along with Zelda, RS, Excite Truck and Wii sports. They'll be doing this right thru till xmas eve.

Well I cheated, see I work for a said evil retail corperation and was able to pull up my districts Wii alotments, so I found a store in podunk no where and they had 28 showing in the system as being in stock. I was still quite surprised that there was already about 20 people there when I got there and luckily they ended up getting a few more than the intial 28 showing as there was about 5-6 line cutters and I was about number 26 or 27. Oh and about another 50 or so showed up past 11:00 and went home empty handed. Luckily I only had to wait 3 hours and the weather wasn't so terribly bad cold. Now if I could only get lucky finding a component cable. Target, bestbuy and ebgames/gamestop all have skus for 3rd party cable but no one had them and bestbuy was the only one that had a peg for one but no cables. The guy told me they were getting them late on about the 15th of Dec

I showed up at around 6 am at a local Target and happily bought my Wii around 8:30. I ended up being #34 out of the 42 people that actually got to take one home, there were a bunch of people who left empty handed.

I've got nothing but positive impressions while I played it yesterday (for about 6 - 7 hours) and I'm happy to report I didn't feel any fatigue AT ALL. So, if my (somewhat) overweight, tired 30 year old ass can handle the Wii for extended periods of gaming, then ANYBODY should be able to

Zelda is incredible. I don't care if it is "last gen" graphics, because the art direction alone surpasses ANYTHING I've seen on PS3/360. The controls are fluid, responsive, and don't require exaggerated movements. In fact, my big 18 lb cat (he's HUGE) was laying on my lap and I was easily able to play Zelda without disturbing him.

Although, I'm sorry to report that the Wiimote does NOT track when giant cats are blocking the Wiimote's pointer function line of sight, so I guess score one for Sony/Microsoft.

But the fact that Zelda has last gen graphics is also considered as one of your positive impresisons?

My friend also got Zelda. He did say it's fun to play. Rather difficult too, according to him.

There is a difference between graphics and art direction. In my opinion, art direction will trump graphics every single time.
