View Full Version : What PS3 games are you waiting for?

Reading over these forums, I've come across a point that is always repeated: It's all about the games.
Now, with the PS3 and Wii finally out the door, I was wondering what PS3 games people are waiting on. The 360 is already out and has some good games on the system, so people supporting that have specific examples to back up their claims. With the PS3, the only true "killer-app" (and even that is debatable) is Resistance. So what other games are people waiting on? I know MGS4, DMC4, and FFXIII are going to be huge when they release, probably selling PS3's like GOW sold 360's, maybe even more. But other than that, is there anything spectacular out there that people might be overlooking?

Well the next big Super Robot Wars franchise will probably be on the PS3. SRW Alpha series has already finished so the next big one should be along the horizon. The question is whether it will be coming up on the PS3 or the Wii -- there is honestly a good chance that the Wii will be the system to get it. The 360 will probably get a remake of an older SRW franchise -- probably MX. I can also see the PS3 going the same route right now.
I am also of course waiting on Tekken 6, for 3D fighters it just has to be Tekken for me. DOA is just a joke in comparison, frankly, and VF somehow doesn't make the cut. I'll also be waiting for Soul Calibur but Tekken is still my first love.
Also waiting on Heavenly Sword, I still have that Dynasty Warriors type itch in my system after all this time, and this looks like the game that will scratch it like never before. In fact, this game may end up more like a HK flick than a DW game.
Also looking forward to Alan Wake, Project Offset, Megami Tensei, and Elveon. Thiough I think most of those will be coming to the PC as well.

I don't know what I want. If it's possible, I'd liek to try them all. But, I don't have money, so I'll just settle with resistance.

Yeah I forgot about Heavenly Sword. That actually looks pretty impressive.

Heavenly Sword, Mercenaries 2, WarHawk, Metal Gear Solid 4 are the games that I'm looking forward to. I would more than likely get a PS3 before MGS4 comes out, but not until after Heavenly Sword and Warhawk. As far as Mercs 2, still not sure if that will come out on 360 the same day as the PS3 version. If it's a time exclusive for PS3, then I would probably get it for that system, as long as the 360 version doesn't come out before June/July.
As far as what's already out: I would probably try Untold Legends, but that's about it.

There is one game currently, more than any other, that has me seriously covetting the Ps3, and that is Lair, the flight/dragon combat game from Factor Five, the guys who did the Rogue Squadron games on GC/N64.
Lair looks incredibly ambitious, amazing graphics, huge levels, and intense dog-fights while flying on a dragon, 1080p, dolby 7.1 and cool use of the motion-sensing capabilities of the Ps3.
I've been really turned off the Ps3 by a lot of the stuff coming out of the launch, including the b/c problems and the problems with the system and 720p, but still, there's nothing on the 360 like this.
The other title I'm hoping turns out well is the futuristic racer Fatal Inertia; graphically, so far, its stunning; hopefully the gameplay and sound and online aspects are as good.

DMC4, niggas! The only other game that can match my excitement for DMC4 is MGS4.
I'd also like to see a new Ratchet and Clank game. Resistance turned out better than solid, so imagine what they could do with the R&C?
I'm also interested in Lair, but I hope that it doesn't turn out to be like Drakan from the PS2.
And of course, Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Hmm, I've never been much of a Ninja Gaiden fan, didn't really seem that interesting to me on the Xbox.
I am waiting for the next God of War on the PS3, and, let's face it, you KNOW it's coming. Apart from MGS4, DMC4, and FFXIII, I want to see what first- and second-party games Sony is going to crank out. PS2 brought us God of War, Mark of Kri, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Jak and Daxter (the first one...the second two sucked), Ratchet and Clank (all 3 were good), etc... Sony has a strong in-house development studio IMO.

MotorStorm. Also, I want to see multi-plat games after devs have had another year to tinker with the PS3's hardware.

I forgot all about Ninja Gaiden Sigma. I beat the Xbox version only once, and with Itagaki (sp?) spending so much time wanting to make DOAX2, I don't think there will be a new Ninja Gaiden coming out until around '08 or '09. So I may as well pick up Sigma.
Another playable character sounds great, but I'm not sure if the game really needs Ryu dual-wielding weapons, especially since I enjoyed using the one-handed sword and various two-handed weapons. Maybe it will enhance the gameplay even more, I dunno.

Lair.
And that's it.
But I'm not waiting for a PS3, and I don't plan on buying on one ever. But that's not to say that I wouldn't take one if someone gave it to me. :wink5:
And (all of) this is more than I can say for the Wii.

Wow. Why don't you tell us that your wife, your mother and your distant family relatives don't want one either? I am sure that's what this thread is about, right? I am sure some of them don't like hot dogs either. Since your goal seems to be going off the topic, you might as well share that with us too.

To be truthful, assuming GTA IV is online, I will most-likely either get a 360 or PS3 depending upon which version is best. Not only that, but HL2 may sway my decision as well.

I figure that HL2 and GTA4 will be the same on both systems. I think I read somewhere that GTA exclusive content for the 360 would also be showing up on the PS3.

Has everyone given up on Killzone?

Nah we just haven't heard anything about it since that video at E3 2005. When new information is released, then you'll see the hype in full swing.

Ah, DOAX2, one of the true exclusives to the 360 that would really make me want to get one.
As for Killzone, well I already made it clear I'm not into FPS with gamepads, so that's not exactly on my hitlist.
I'm a big Ninja Ryuukenden fan, meaning I'm also a big NInja Gaiden fan, it's just that I never had an Xbox (only borrowed it).

If it had the same view as the Killzone on PSP, then I may be interested. As long as it's a FPS, then I'll leave it at the store.

And thats MGS4 and DMC4 starring Nero. Those two games I would love to have a PS3 for.
God of War wont even be a mention for the PS3 until about persay 2008.Meaning that God of War 3 probably wont even be available to about 2009. Look how long the gap was between the 1st one and the 2nd one about to come out? Its going to be awhile for GOW 3.
Since God Of War 2 is coming out for the PS2 in February of next year. Everything else like Assassin's Creed, the next Grand Theft Auto, and Resident Evil 5 will all be on the 360 as well as the PS3.
So its going to be interesting to see if Sony adds some bonus content to some of those AAA multiplatform titles coming up on the horizon.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma? LOL! What a joke!!! This game has been out for the Xbox not once but twice.(Ninja Gaiden & Ninja Gaiden Black) This time around on the PS3's version Ryo can wield two swords at the same time and you get to play with the busty blonde demon slayer sporting a huge hammer.(try not to stare at those shiny bosoms)
A few new enemies, new weapons, and new costumes later on in the game will be added as well.Is that Xbox port for the PS3 worth paying $60 bucks for when you can buy it for the regular Xbox for only $20 dollars right now? Food for thought.:aureola:
Half of those people that do buy Sigma wont get through it unless they are mentally tough as nails. This game is entertaining as hell but its also hard as hell too.
So dont even bother if you dont like pulling out hair and screaming profanity at the top of your lungs to the point the police comes knocking on your door. LOL! :D
Seriously though this game is indeed good but its very challenging. And the mini games you unlock is crazy hard as well. To each his/ her own. I dont think those few extras are enough to pay about $ 60 bucks for though when you can basically get the same game on another console for alot cheaper.:)
Nevertheless MGS4 and DMC4 are the two PS3 games that I'm waiting to see. So far from what I've seen from both games on G4TV I'm impressed with what Konami and Capcom has done with them.

What about Heavenly Sword and FFXIII? Those two look awesome. And admit it...you do want to know how Killzone is going to turn out, hype or not.

Heavenly Sword looks promising. FFXIII? No interest. You've seen one Final Fantasy you've seen them all. Other than different time frames with different characters each game is in fact the same IMO.
Beautiful cut scenes and an deep story to boot. In game graphics are always good and the battle system for your characters remains the same along with the same kinds of magic. At this point I'm ready for the series to take a serious turn. In other words I want to be able to roam freely during combat instead of standing in one spot trading blows with an enemy.(like that famous RPG Knights Of The Old Republic from Bioware)
Killzone to me is a joke. The 1st one was labled a"Halo Killer" and it wasnt even close. Yes I've seen the tech demos of what Killzone 2 is "supposed" to look like. And I say once again I seriously doubt that is the way the game is going to look from start to finish.
That may be the way the game starts during the CG cut-scenes but overall do I think the game will even be a major player down the stretch for PS3 owners? Nope. Just another game that'll come and go. Right now Gears of War & Resistance:Fall of Man are the games to beat in that kind of genre. I could be wrong about Killzone 2. But I havent seen anything to make me say I would buy a PS3 just for it though. :)
