Okay fellow LIVE gamers, a bomb game is about to drop in a few weeks. And I am not going to let my poor to average experiences with RTCW ONLINE and GR ONLINE spoil it. That game is of course Rainbow 6.
The sucky thing about RTCW and GR is that its hard to find "stable" rooms. In MotoGP2 and even MidtownMadness I have guys I normally run with who can be trusted to host fun decent rooms. It is hit and miss with RTCW and GR.
So thus far it looks as if we have myself, stillfastasleep, glocky, darwin, and tappy online. That's five, I don't know how many players R6 will support, but if we need more i'm sure some guys off our friends lists will also be getting the game. But we need a core group and we need to setup a consistent day and time where we play this game. Sure not everyone is gonna be able to make it, but it be nice to have something regular to count on. Like Metha(Darwin) and I race at 1am weekdays, but also 3pm Saturdays and 7pm Sundays.
So let's cooooooordinate this guys, so we can be ready to waste some TANGO's the minute this game drops.
Also, Glocky and Massy, we are tossing around ideas for an IROC motoGP2 league. This will likely be quite different from the other league. Each week everyone will use the same pre-made rider/bike, since everyone will be on the same bike, with the same points, it should really focus just on the riding. No teams or teamates, every man for himself. Shorter races, likely 2 races a week, maybe 10 laps each race. Or possibly 4 races a week, 5 lap races. Anyway, if you guys are interested let us know. We haven't come up with a time, though i'm thinking Sunday's at 5pm.

Looks like we might have another addictive Live game on our hands, gents. End of this month, too. October 29th is the day it should hit shelves.

I will definitely be getting this game. Count me in. Oh, and BTW Phaze, skip out on getting Soldier of Fortune 2. This Rainbow 6 game looks to be of a much higher quality.

I'll be there man. I've heard it only supports 4 on 4 but it's supposed to be the slickest thing on LIVE yet.

First off, you can count me out. I really have no interest in getting this game.
But, I gotta ask... what the heck makes you think that this Ubi Soft game will be any "better" than their other one (GR)?
Thirdly: What about Counter-Strike? Or Full Spectrum Warrior? Why not those?
Question four - for Darwin: why do you now say to skip SOF, Dw? I mean, if you're just looking for online play - then I thought SOF would've been just what you guys are looking for. Plus, the price is getting set to drop.
And finally... "sucky experiences with RTCW"?!? Whaaaat?!? I don't recall having a problem... not even once.
Oh yeah, about MGP2... you know I love the game, TMG... but I just really can't commit to anything right now. Ehh-and... I'm not very good anyways.
These boards are working for me, now, so I'm back up. I have my Rainbow Six pre-order in and I have the companion disc. So, yeah, time permitting, I'm up for a little rainbowing. The AI on the teammates is none too bright on this game. Run away from the grenades I throw guys. But, then apparently, the AI in the computer version left a lot to be desired, but it sure does look purty.
Motogp2, I still play, built up a few points in the challenges. But, man, I don't know if I can handle championship mode.

Well, I've played a good bit of R6 3 and I can tell you that it's an entirely different beast. Since 99% of it is close quarters combat you have to rely on your teammates far more than what you would in GR and stick to strict tactical plotting..in other words its more about you outsmarting your enemy and knowing your equipment rather than just being quick on the trigger. If that sounds like your thing then you'll probably like it alot.
Counter-Strike? Man, CS is teh sukzor. I played a couple of rounds awhile back and it was filled with some of the whiniest people you'll EVER run into. There are plenty of people that'll argue with me about it but meh..I don't like it. FSW, though, looks like it could really give R6 a run for its money if not beat it outright. Pandemic has made some really cool games in the past so it's one I'm looking forward to.
And SOF sorta sucks a donkey ball, too. Once you get over shooting people in the crotch the game gets old...fast.
But all this talk about starting up clans on Live has me interested, games like R6 are tailor made for that headset and MotoGP 2 sounds about awesome. I just gotta get used to playing FPS games with a controller...eww...

I've discovered that Soldier of Fortune 2 (SOF2) is fairly suceptible to lag. Not all, but about half of the games have this problem. Combine this with the fact that there are only a few servers going at any time, and you've really got limited choices. See, there really isn't a good SOF2 online community like there is with Wolfenstein and Moto GP2. So, most of the guys on SOF2 are just like me: we play it maybe once a week. It's got limited appeal, but unless you get a large stable online group of gamers that play it on a consistent basis, it's not going to have that long-term appeal. When I get home from work, I anticipate going on MotoGP 2 because I know there are a certain group of gamers that are already on ... guys that I'm used to gaming with. SOF2 lacks this. Also, about half of SOF2 gamers online are junior high kids. Yes, there are some mature kids gaming on Live, but when you play games with this age range you're much more likely to run into immaturity. A lot of the conversations I've heard on SOF2 involve kids talking about stuff that happened to them in school and who likes what girl. But on the plus side, I've overheard tips on how to sneak into the girl's lockeroom. :-)
What we are seeing is that not only is the gameplay important for long-term replay value, but so is the group of gamers that regularly play it online.
SOF2 has good level design and good weapon design. However, it's single and online play have technical issues. AI problems and highly linear gameplay limit the single player mode, while clunky movement of opponents and a small SOF2 community limit the online experience Overall, the game is kinda clunky and not smooth. Having conversed with MaskedGamer on VGR and over Live, I can anticipate that this would not be a game that he would enjoy. So, my statement was really tailored towards him specifically. This is not a game, IMO, that I would recommend for him to buy without trying out a demo or rental first.
I personally am glad I bought the game, although I'm not addicted to it. I've played it on and off. I find the single player to be enjoyable for spurts here and there, but it's no Halo. The main problem is that Xbox has a healthy amount of FPS games, and SOF2 does nothing to rise above the competitors nor does it provide any unique gameplay.

LOL. Nooo... I didn't diss GR... TMG did!
C'mon now. I was just responding to his post, and posing questions.
But I gotta thank you and and Darwin sharing your thoughts on some games there.
Now won't you bastiches be surprised to hear... that I reserved Rainbow 6!
Okay, I've got to admit it... the game sounds pretty good after all. The OXM had quite a write up on it, and I've read quite a few other nice things about it from the vg websites. I don't have to buy it - that's the beauty of Reservations - but a copy will be waiting for me, with my name on it, on Oct. 29, should I decide to get it.
Suppose I should add, however, that I prolly would not have reserved it were it not for the free demo disk that they were giving away. :D
Hey, it's a cool disk! On it are "Exclusive New" downloadable missions for Splinter Cell (Vselka Infiltration and Vselka (along with the old Kola Cell mission)), and GR: Island Thunder (Aurora, Riverbed, Roadblock, and Tank). It's also got playable demos of Splinter Cell, GR, GR:IT... and more importantly... Rainbow Six 3!
