I've only ever rented from Blockbuster but am interested in what others have to say about game rental resources as I'm contemplating signing on with one. Blockbuster is a crap shoot, if they actually have what you want available you're lucky to find it in decent shape. That's been my experience anyway. I suppose the it's dependent upon your geography to some degree. I'm east coast and my experience with them has been crap.

I haven't any experience with Gamefly or Netflix or the like - and I don't think I ever will. I also don't rent from the brick-n-mortar stores much either.
Personally, I just don't see renting games as being a very good deal; the financials just don't add up for me. (Now if I could get games for as cheap as I get movies - like, $1 for 5 days - then I might start renting.)
I do rent from Hollywood Video every once in a while however. But only because I have a bunch of coupons for free rentals. They give you 12 such coupons everytime you make a system purchase from their CameCrazy store. It sounds like a great deal, but Hollywood Videos videogame selection is awful! I've had these coupons for years!

I've heard good things about Gamefly. I've thought about trying it, but I just don't see it as much of a positive. If I would do it, it would be for the achievement points, but I'm not that much of a mongrel. Yet. Gamefly seems the way to go though, because you get to pick how many games per month you handle, you keep them as long as you want, and if you like them enough, you can buy the game for a used price. The main thing is commitment. I can't do that, because i'll be somewhere else that I don't know yet in about half a year.

My main game renting stores used to be Blockbuster and Hollywood Videos. For BB, they weren't bad, especially when they got rid of the late fee thing and let people keep rentals up to 7 days extra (I usually just used 3 days). My problem with them is when the 360 came out, not only did they shoot the expected rental price up to $8, they did the same with the current-gen games as well. Also, they started wanting all 360 renters to have a valid credit card when they rented games, kind of like a safety deposit if the game isn't returned. I didn't care for that either.
Hollywood Videos weren't as bad. Their games were for $7 for 5 days, but they only had a few games (the so called "Big" titles) and almost if not all of their games were scratched up.
I haven't rented anything since PDZ back in April, and I honestly don't see myself renting games again.

Went ahead and signed up for Gamefly today. I was going to pool my costs with a friend of mine who already has an account and just have him upgrade but he wouldn't go for it so I've now got my very own. Will let you know how it goes... real time. Got NBA2k7 and the Godfather on the way. I'll post when I actually get them - just signed up about a half hour ago.

Good deal storminormin, your xp will provide some real time user history, so dont forget to post back after a 90 day period or so, & let us know about your xp w/Gamefly [be it good or bad].

Just dropped my games in the mail back to Gamefly this afternoon. Got Gears of War and F.E.A.R in the que now. I guess this is where they get put to the test on the shipping. I'll keep you up to date.
I'm kind of pissed I didn't know about this earlier as free is a word I'm fond of but apparently Gamefly has a 30-day free trial promo that someone leaked the info about on Evil Avatar. According to him it's only good for a couple more days so if you're going to use it you've basically only got two days.

You got GOW? It's been in my Q for a long time now and it still shows as unavailable.

Actually I didn't. It's still in my Q. Got Mortal Kombat not G.O.W. Sorry, I'm dyslexic or something. I don't think G.O.W. is even available until 11/9.

Hey oobgarm, did you ever get G.O.W.?
I'm still playing around with FEAR and Mortal Kombat. I've got my girlfriend sold on getting a gamefly account so we'll be a united front. She's all about the new PS3. Wants one terribly (I'm an xboxer myself). She's going to need it after she drops what they want for that console. Lovely girl, perhaps a bit taken in by the hype but lovely all the same.

After being on the road the last couple of weeks I returned home to find Gears of War waiting for me and it is awesome. By far one of the best 360 games ever. This game is out of control. I think I'm going to have to go ahead and click the "keep it" button. Can I get an amen?
In other gaming news... as mentioned last month, my GF wants a PS3. I wish I could afford to buy her one but alas, I cannot. I'm thinking about getting her a PSP to tide her over until she can hook herself up. That and a gamefly gift certificate should more than take care of her. It's not a PS3 but I think she'll be pleased.
