Vivendi Universal for lunch?

On my way to Sierra.com for game, I caught a blurb about french gaming giant Vivendi Universal being considered by MS for purchase.
It was an old post [3/03], did I sleep through this aquisition, or is it still considered rumor?

Vivendi Universal was talking about selling off their games division for a long time; potential buyers included EA and Microsoft. I don't think anything went through though. Vivendi has some really big titles/dev houses under their belt (Blizzard and Valve come to mind).

Vivendi is also doing a weird "Kiss Psyco Circus" thing by securing contract w/rock group Metallica.
Apparently we gamers will be blessed[?] w/an action/adventure 3rd person vehicle combat game; complete w/band member voice overs & some groovy Metallica licks....hmm.

re: V.U. for sell, MS has the juice [$40 billion]. It gets me wondering about a MS influenced HL, GC2,Homeworld etc.

Vivendi Universal is being "parted out" [todays news of GE aquiring Vivendis Entertainment sector]. This company has ma$$ive resources, though market has down grade value [S&P].

Not gonna happen [yet], Vibendi says the gaming market is "cold".
