I did a Sony survey just now, and I did not know that there were a couple of other significant differences between the two versions of PS3 being offered.
Besides the obvious differences in HD capacity, the 60GB version will support several memory card formats, mainly, Duo, SD, and CF. Also, it will support 802.11 WiFi. So I was surprised that the 20GB will not be online capable out of the box. I do not know if that will be a post purchase upgrade option or not.
The ability to read/write Duos is interesting in regards to PSP cross compatibility, I think.

There are a lot of unknowns about the two sku's at this point.
That's because Sony is unsure of what they want to do themselves. People were talking $#!% about Microsoft and their tardiness on pre-launch info on the 360, but at least by this time we knew everything we needed to know. The PS3 is due out in just 7 weeks, and Sony's still unsettled and waffling. At this point, you have to expect that any and all "truths" could still change.
What's more, I recently read an article that Sony is switching their focus from the high-end sku (the $600 unit) to the low-end sku (what was previously known as 'the tard-pack II'). It is very confusing.

Lack of Wi-Fi doesn't mean there's no online capability. According to the official specs (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/specs.html), an ethernet port will be standard in both versions.

I think you can get USB adaptors to accomodate various memory cards.

The 20GB just caught my attention again, but this time, it could be the one I go for.....whenever that will be. I'm guessing sometime in mid to late 07.

There cheaper version is a better deal than MS tard pack. You don't lose any functionality really. Know wifi ok but you still can go online. Is it still true that the harddrive is a standard one and you can swap it for any hdd on the market if so I may get the $500 model as well and and but in an 100g hdd myself.

I agree, though during the drought I would have picked up a Tard Pack if it was the only one available just to play Oblivion.
I won't miss wi-fi on the PS3 and I probably won't be online much (if at all) with the system anyway.

hope they have a better online plan this time around then the "you figure it out" stance they took with developers. most of the time making developers create half-assed servers.
