I wanna buy a 1GB or a 2GB Sony memory stick....But, there are fakes available in the market as well.......now, I read an article somewhere, physically showing the slight differences between the two.....but the best method for differentiating mentioned was checking the total space available on the memory stick....these values would be different in the real and fake versions.....for example, for the 512MB card, the real Sony stick had 480MB, whereas the fake one had 464MB (or some close value).......

so, can you please tell me the capacities of the real/fake, 1GB/2GB Sony memory stick please........

thanx in advance

Some fake sticks offer inaccurate readings and some will give the correct value, even though they will store considerably less data. I've read a ton of problems with these knockoffs from transfer issues to size issues (they don't fit) to them just not working, or they stop working after a short time. I'd say forgo Ebay and get it from Newegg.com The prices on 1 and 2GB sticks are competitive enough to buy from a legit source. The peace of mind is worth it.
I'd say the best way is to check (without opening it) the plastic packaging. Legit packaged electronics are a pain in the ass to open because it's heat sealed all the way around. The fake packaging isn't nearly as thorough. Also the text should be engraved on the stick.

A 512 stick should show 480
A 1G stick should show 940
A 2G stick should show 1909 or 1910

The fake ones will vary considerably and one sure sign is to avoid any vender or sell claiming the card holds more than the above values.
