Holy $#!%, is that a pathetic list! #@$%ing bargain-basement titles! Neat!

I'm saying that, and I own two of those 7 movies. I bought Behind Enemy Lines for $5.99 and Kingdom of Heaven for $9.99 - both on whim.(!)

The list of available movies on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD is pathetic - and will continue to be until they get their respective libraries over the 500 count. 'Cause maybe by then I might actually be able to find a movie or two worth buying/rebuying.

And by that time there will probably be another format to choose from.

Mark my words: Blu-ray and HD-DVD will both be sunk.

Fox is on drugs. $50 canadian for some catalog action titles and some of those are real stinkers. That's about $20 canadian more than what Warner is asking for their catalog titles on HD-DVD.

Just one more reason for me to sleep thru this ps3 launch. Sh#$, $50 canadian for the Fantastic Four, here let me just whack myself in the head with a croquent mallet instead.

And that is just Fox, not what Sony themselves will have ready. I found the league of Extraordinary Gentlemen release to be interesting. I saw the movie at the theater, and was not impressed, proof that not all graphic novels translate well to movies. But that particular BluRay will incorporate a game. Interactive cinematic games have generally done well, like D2 on the Dreamcast, and the old point and click adventures still come out for the PC as well as consoles.

I have to disagree with Glock. I have been in the various electronics stores around here a couple of times a week for the last few months, since a HDTV is in my future, and they are selling like crazy. I was in Best Buy this past weekend, and they had two identical HDTVs set up, one playing a standard DVD and the other playing the BluRay equivalent and the difference was astonishing. If you see them side by side, it seems very realistic indeed to upgrade a film collection. The difference is far greater than between DVD and VHS. By miles.

Fry's Electronics had dozens of 50" plus HDTVs in boxes out on the main floor, and vehicles were waiting in back to pick up sets at the loading dock.

Circuit City has a BluRay kiosk set up with titles available. And the holiday push hasn't even started yet. Sony has already announced that this year's advertising budget will dwarf anything they've ever done before.

No, HD is coming, and in a big way. Theater attendance is way down, but people still love their movies. $50 a film is way too much? If you take your family of four out to a theater today, you'll drop between $28 and $36 to see it, and all's you'll have to show for it is ticket stubs and memories. And that does not include drinks and popcorn. If you have HDTV and a hi-def disk, then for a few dollars more, you can watch it whenever you want, with equivalent resolution and audio quality, not miss anything when you go to the bathroom, don't have to deal with talkers, kids, and other noise makers, and most of all, don't have to deal with endless ads on the screen, on the walls, in the john, etc.

Personally, I am psyched about the upcoming season, and especially about the potential for interactive video.

I'll say it again. It's going to be a very interesting holiday season.
