Dante Returns Next Week
Devil May Cry 4 to resurface prior to TGS
by Anoop Gantayat

September 1, 2006 - It's seeming more and more likely that Dante will be Capcom's big star at the Tokyo Game Show. The company has opened up a countdown website, which indicates that information on Devil May Cry 4 will hit the web on Friday of next week, just in time for the big show.

The countdown site can be accessed here. The countdown starts off with the following lines:

From that day forth my arm changed
and a voice echoed
Power...
Give me more power!

What does all that mean? We'll find out late next week.
There is no game other than MGS4 that I want on the PS3 more than DMC4. Part 3 has become Ninja Gaidens equal in my eyes.

Slade, is the dude who made 3 going to make this one? He did part 1, and then passed on part 2? That's why it wasn't up the the level of part 1. But then he came back and did 3 and crucshed anyones doubts about the series. Or am I wrong.

Good find, maybe they just kept it under the radar until recently.

I own DMC3 and enjoy it but NG was far better, I could not put it down. I started DMC3 right after clearing NG but shelved it due to both frustration and crappy save system. Other games have grabbed my interest since then. I hope 4 fixes the save system.

Totally wrong. Part two was directed by the same guy that did part three. Part one was directed by Hideki Kamiya who went on to direct Viewtiful Joe and then Okami. Part four is being directed by the same guy that directed Parts two and three.

DMC3 was better then Dial- a- combo Gaiden. But Itagaki should have plenty of ripoff material from DMC3 and 4 to bring Gaiden into the realm of modern action/adventure games.

What the hell happened to DMC2, if it was from the same guy who did 3? I mean, I remember it as being a solid game that fell apart near the end, but the bashings I've heard of this game make me wonder if my memory is lying to me.

I want the weapon system to be like how they did Virgil. Three weapons to choose from, and a million combinations to do off of those three weapons.

DMC2 was not supposed to be DMC2. Capcom, at the time was in financial trouble and they had a fairly promising action game coming up so essentially, they changed the production staff on the game six months from launch and told them to shoehorn Dante into it. The result was DMC2 with an incomprehensible storyline and less then stellar gameplay.

Sweet! Dante looks sick, and he finished with a Helm Breaker! It seems like I've seen that trailer before, but not with those graphics. Am I wrong?

That's the old TGS trailer from last year. You guys are way behind the times on this game.

Latest from IGN: Vergil is the lead, not Dante....

True, there was another much shorter version out with different graphical effects. This
latest teaser is more polished. Looking forward to this one ... hope the difficulty level
is extremely challenging http://forums.videogamereview.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Some little bits about the story:

- Nero is a knight within the Order of the Demon Blade, a religious order which protects the secrets and powers of demons from the world.
- There's no indication that he is the Vergil that we know from DMC3 and DMC1.
- The game is set in a huge city known as Fortuna.
- The people here believe that Sparda is a god, and the Order that Nero works for wants to undo Sparda's seal.
- It is for this purpose that Nero ends up in this city, but here his entire unit is slaughtered by the demon hunter Dante.

Interesting, and fvcking amazing! Taking the game in a whole new direction, holy sh!t.

And I have no doubt that Dante will be a playable character, probably as an unlockable. Maybe it'll be a mix of the two, like Halo 2. You'll start off as Nero, then later on, you play as Dante to try and undo Nero's chaos. I dunno.

I really hope it's Virgil, because I love the tale that these two are creating.

About the IGN article, "surprise announcement" = multiplat?

Ninja Gaiden's equal? Okay....DMC was indeed a classic. DMC 2...sucked. DMC 3...better than DMC2. DMC4 up there with the Xbox's Ninja Gaiden? I dunno about that.

MGS4 will indeed be one of the best of the series.(I think SC:Double Agent will be better though)

But it would be great if DMC4 does make the PS3's launch. The one PS3 game that has my interest is the next Warhawk game. That was one of my favorites back in the day.:p

So, they're showing Dante in the gameplay pic, but he's not the main character? Riiiight. I sense something along the lines of MGS2.

BTW, thanks for the pics stroke. Now I can't wait for my next issue of GI.

Dial-a-combo? Bullshi+ DMC3 has a deeper fighting system especially with the swapping styles in mid combo but NG is far from dial-a-combo that's Killer instinct.

It's close enough to dial a combo as to be almost indistinguishable. They put a few cancel's here and there but that's not enough. Not when you've got something like DMC3. I said it before and I'll say it again, Ninja Gaiden is the past and DMC3 is the future of action games. Even God of War 2 seems to be doing on the fly weapon switching and I think they've even confirmed the feature in Genji 2 and Heavenly Sword.

Well to be fair DMC3 did come out almost a full year after NG.

Design decisions like that are not regulated with time. It's more about the creativity of said team. That said:

Ryu may have been bland. But I'll take Blan over corny ass young Dante any day of the week. The art Design In Ninja Gaide is just as good IMO.

After reading a preview from TGS on Gamespot and (the attempts) to read the GI cover story, I think I'm done with the DMC series. I get the feeling that it will be all too familiar, which is something I didn't want to see after playing the first 3 DMCs. I want some newness (yeah, I used that as an actual word) from the series, and unfortunately, I'm not going to get it.

Oh, well. DMC1 is still a classic, and I still enjoyed DMC2 more than DMC3 due to the fact the devs actually made a different looking character than the usual Dante template of characters (Dante, Vergil and now this new guy who I'll call Dante Jr. or DJ for short).

I was talking about gameplay/combat design. Art wise, there's nothing wrong with Ninja Gaiden.

I don't like how the new main character looks like dante. How does he even share the same power as Dante? I mean, what makes virgil and dante special because their parents' unique relationship.

Cuddly Knife

I was wondering the same thing. Dante and Virgil are the sons of Sparda, who is I guess the second greatest demon who ever lived or something like that. There was Arkham who had some interesting powers(as Jester), so it's not too far to think that there are others with demon blood oozing in their veins.

Personally, I would've like to have seen what happened to Virgil during his stay in the underworld. I don't like him better than Dante, but he is equally as sick.

i just hope the new fighting technique is as satisfying as on-the-fly weapon-switching from part 3.

It'd be nice if you can use virgil in DMC4. I like him a lot more than Dante in DMC3. I dislike how Dante has 4 different styles. If he knows them, then he should be able to use them all. I still don't understand what the deal is with Sparda. He is in DMC and it's not explained why he's there.

Well, the story template for DMC4 goes something like this: There's an Order based in the city of Fortuna that recruits and trains all people that exhibit signs of supernatural powers. Dante goes in and starts killing their members left and right for some asforto unexplained reason. Nero is someone exceptional within the order and he and Dante confront each other which leads to the fight in the trailer. Personally, I think they might have taken his Amulet somehow.

I still don't understand what the deal is with Sparda. He is in DMC and it's not explained why he's there.

Technically he's also in DMC3 but that's only a costume. There's no story attached to it.

OK, I now have 0 doubt that the new arm technique will kick ass and add a whole new dimention to the DMC gameplay style. Check out the new gameplay video.

Now, my only concern is that I see no evidence of weapon-switching.
