PROOF! (http://www.joystiq.com/2006/08/07/ea-does-give-a-sh-t-about-system-shock-3-says-pc-gamer-uk/)
An interesting turn about to say the least. But considering what the Bioshock devs (the original creators of System Shock 2) have said about EA and their response in regard to SS3, it doesn't really give much hope that it'll even be in the same class as it's prequel.
Oh well, at least it's something to keep an eye out on...for the spectacle if not the game itself. And if it ends up sucking, we still have Bioshock to fall back on.
Oh good, you'll get to choose the look of your character (I think I'll be a fat bald guy with a mustache), then run around some space station in third person creating mayhem and destruction until you face off against Shodan in the end. Run over zombies with your space scooter! Yipee!

That's pretty much the extent of it. I don't think anyone is looking forward to the game itself, but rather waiting to see how bad it'll gonna turn out.
I mean think about the history behind SS3. Ken Levine and all the LG guys wanted to do a true and proper sequel, and had a ton of good ideas to implement. They went to EA, and EA basically told them to dumb the game down or it's not gonna happen. So instead of doing a watered down sequel, they just jumped ship and poured all their ideas and things they learned while working on SS2 into Bioshock, while EA went and handed the rights to the series to the guys that made...The Godfather game.
In the end, Bioshock is gonna be a more interesting game anyway. It has a better premise, a cooler and moodier enviroment, and much creepier backstory. As much as I loved SS2, BS is the future of the series.
Bioshock is one of the rare games I would buy as soon as it came out. I might buy Gothic 3 when it comes out...if my computer can handle it. I think it can. I'm sure they optimized it better than Bethesda optimizes their games.
Godfather was a decent game, just a clone of GTA with the Godfather theme. EA probably instructed them to clone SS2 but make it more of an action game. I bet that's how it turns out.

I think there was only ever one game that I bought as soon as it came out. That was Daggerfall. Oh wait, I also bought Arcanum and Suikoden 3 and 5 ASAP.
I bought Black & White when it came out. Man, I regretted that choice. I pride myself on being a Johnny-come-lately. I'll get Oblivion GOTY with all the expansions a couple years from now and knock the whole thing out in one shot over three or four months. Just like I did with Morrowind.

If a game interests me enough, I'll grab it as soon as it comes out. Right now Gothic III is the only definate get-it-get-it-get-it game on my list, but Bioshock and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic are really piquing my interest.

LOL Aku, guess you bought into the B&W hype that swept the PC gaming world about 5 years ago. I still remember this board and how there were threads abotu B&W, and how one store in the morning had a stack of it in the display, by the afternoon all of them were sold out.
Obliv is onsale on gogamer right now for 29.95. I will pre buy some games but not many. I did with Oblivion and also with NwN2. I might with Phionex Wright 2 as I really like the prev DS game. But for the most part I have a typical gamers wait and see look at games...let someone else beta test them.

It seems that everytime EA goes out of their way to make action games, they **** it up royally. I can't see EA making SS3 to the best of the series potential, I know the 2nd game was a blast. Regardless, we shall see, I know EA had made some good **** in the past, [Burnout series]. But SS3 is a whole different take, it should be interesting to say the least.
SS2, a game I may reinstall and play just one more time. No game I've ever played has created the feeling of being alone the way that one did. The whole thing was just so creepy. The game looks really good with that mod that replaces several of the creature skins.
