There's only one game that really leaps to my mind:
UFO: Enemy Unknown

Quite a lof of those games have essentially been remade....for some great ideas, developers should look back at some of the classic 8bit and 16bit software, theres huuge possibilitys there.
I don't know if anyone will remember these?
Way of the exploding fist
Saboteur
Action Biker
Wanted: Monty Mole
Mercenary
Barbarian
Rebelstar (kinder like a super retro version of ufo enemy unknown)
Thats just to name a few.
Are you Dobian? He was a real a$$h**e.
Half-Life was remade, or refurbished anyway, as part of HL2.
I like the look of Thief 1 and 2. We've seen what the newer graphics would look like in Thief 3, and while technically superior, I just like the look of the older games better.
Oh, Fallout 1 and 2 would be great remade. As well as Arcanum (same engine). I would still want the same isometric design, just improved graphics and in 3D.

Aku, I sent you a private message before even posting this thread, thus answering your question!
I am not Dobian, although some might regard me as an ass-hole!
Thief 1 and 2....yeah, I can agree with that. I really like the look the original engine aswell! Thief 3 is hot looking but I didn't favor the mid-level loading!
Halflife source? Is that what you meant? Nope! I mean Halflife using the Crysis or even Unreal 3 engine, same with RTCW!

You're about to be in for a thrill. Maniac Mansion (http://www.bigbluecup.com/games.php?action=detail&id=401) has been completely redone in VGA..and it's completely free. :D
Zac McKracken (http://www.scummvm.org/screenshots.php?cat1=0&cat2=1&view=-1) has a VGA remake for the FM Towns that can be run through SCUMMVM. Unfortunately it's a little hard to find nowadays. I had to search high and low before I came across a copy.
Tomb Raider 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Syx5bcxxqaw&search=anniversary%20tomb%20raider) is also being remade for the PSP and I'm guessing the PS2. It was originally cancelled, but Core and Eidos decided to go ahead and release it anyway. Dunno when it's coming out, though.
Edit: Yeah, I know who you are. You're Shalashaska! I remember you posting wayyyyyy back in the day.

Hmm...AoE Enforcer and GF78 are posting, so you can't be one of them.

I've played some odd and hard to find old school PC games in the past:
Ultimate Wizard
Cosmic Tunnels
Sammy Lightfoot
Neuromancer
.....but the games you posted? I've never heard of 'em!

Actually, I'm Dobian. Only a few people here remember.
I remember!
No idea who Ocelot is though. Post it up here Renz when you find out.
As for remakes, mine have already been said. Ultima Underworld and the UFO/X-Com.
Mechwarrior, Descent, Blade of Darkness- More Monkey Island games and Grim Fandangos.....Sanatarium.

You won't be seeing any new Monkey Island games anytime soon...Ron Gilbert can't even get a job anymore. (http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20060630/murdey_01.shtml)
I think he's right about one thing: we need more independant studios making games. When it comes to EA and their ilk, they're great at refining an already proven idea, but they're not willing to try anything small or anything new.
Yeah, I'm playing Godfather now, an EA game that just shamelessly borrows from GTA. A decent game, but totally unoriginal. You look at Mafia from a few years ago, made by Illusion, and it was from the same genre but completely original.
It is sad indeed....some of the most talented are...jobless . Oh boy...Madden 2123 or Need For Speed Neverending..... The Sims...milk it baby..EA is the master at making us all hate the new game that..isn't new at all.

Ocelot was one of the characters from the crappy Metal Gear Solid series, which I must add Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, absolutely destroys... :p
As for who you are? My guess would be Slade, or Folken. However, both are current posters...

Yeah, Archon for the Atari 800. those were the days. I got the moves down on the keyboard where I could take out any of the harder enemies in a fight. My reflexes aren't so good anymore.

Ooh! Flashback! I loved that game! But for a remake I'd go with Out of this World first. One of the first truly cinematic games, and one that's definately deserving of a remake.
Also:
Pitfall II
Crystalis
Fallout (hopefully Bethesda doesn't fub up the sequel)

You can't fool me! You are actually Bortiis!!!!
Oh yeah, Excite Bike would be great using today's Crossfire X1900s.

Oh, Crystalis. One of my favorite console rpg's. My favorite of the bunch was Secret of Mana. I loved that game.

Smart lad you are Mochan, The biggest shocker was when Gadfly and Renz didn't know!
I loved Flashback and Out of This World...I think I had those on the Sega Saturn...or was it even earlier??

I dunno, Out Of This World reminded me more of a Dragon's Lair, with more scripted moments rather than created moments that you'd find in Flashback. I first played both games on the Sega Genesis (DBS).

I wouldn't say it's like Dragons Lair, though admittedly it was very scene-centric.
But yeah, Flashback was the better game of the two. But I played OOTW first (or watched it being played on a friend's old 386), and it'll always have a special place in my heart.

How could I possibly not know, we used to go hunting MS Suits together with MP5s and UMPs.

Outcast
Hidden & Dangerous
Outcast
Hidden & Dangerous
Both great choices. But part of the what made Outcast so unique were the voxel graphics. If it was remade using a modern engine, it would look like every other game out there, and something would be lost.

I would not mind a return to the voxel graphics with high resolution this time or something that had a similar look.
I know that Outcast 2 was in the works..too bad someone can not continue this sometime.

Yep, still around....
I cruise the site from time to time but never seem to have enough time to post!
I opened a third restaurant a while back & am currently working on opening a little late night dining / Jazz Club addition to my Italian restaurant. Working 24/7...blah blah, blah.
This post has prompted me to try to load a couple of old favorites on my computer-SS2 & Blade of Darkness, but I can't get them to run on XP, even with tweaks & Comp. mode enabled. Just did some upgrades... new BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra OC, Logitech G5 mouse for my desktop, G7 wireless for the XPS laptop and a Samsung 204B LCD monitor to replace my 14 year old CRT.
Now if I only had more time to devote to gaming!!!
I also enjoyed Blade of Darkness....I could of swore I have gone back to it sometime since having XP....hmm
I could run SS2 on XP. I forget if there was a special tweak you had to do to get it to work, but ttlg has an SS2 forum that should answer that one.

I have loaded the only patch ever issued for the game, tried various compatibility modes and have gotten the as far as the load screen, but as soon as the cinematics should run I get an error message saying I need a codec to run and then a black screen.:mad2:
I've been surfing some sites to find work arounds and still have a few suggestions to try before I throw in the towel. I never played the game with the Rebirth mod and would like to visit Shodan again.
I have also been working on getting Wheel of Time to run. I bought the game years ago but never played it. I have gotten as far as the first stage in the tutorial before it crashes.
I have been listening to the entire series of novels on MP3 and that prompted me to try the game. So far no luck. Perhaps I need to partition one of my hard drives and load a Windows98 OS-dual boot so I can play older games. So far my system doesn't seem to work well in Comp. mode

I also thought of another game that I would love to see remade. I think it was called SKD.
If I look through all my games I can find it. There was also a sequel. Tongue in cheek comedic take on not-so bright-alien invaders opposed by a mad doctor, a six legged, cyborg dog, named Sam who was packing serious heat and the janitor outfitted in a jet black, flying sniper suit. It had a great intro ala Jack Kirby visuals and was one of the first games to make me laugh out loud....along with Grim Fandango and Sam & Max.
Let me know if anybody remembers this game & if I have the title correct. I'm at work and can't look through my collection. This will drive me crazy until I am sure of the name.

I think the title of the game was SDK.
WOT is out on MP3? Wow, everything is out on MP3 these days. :)
How is the story progressing, anyway ? Any signs of ending soon? I stopped at like Book 8.
