View Full Version : City of Heroes sucks

After playing city of villians and liking it, we decided to get city of heroes since it isn't anything extra per month.....BIG mistake. I haven't played any mmo thats more infuriating, in fact in sheer anger I just uninstalled it. The biggest problem with the game is hit accuracy and it doesn't matter if its ranged or melee, you miss far too much, whatever character you make during any fight even against piss-ant mobs you're 10 times more likely to miss even standing toe-to-toe, basically against a white con (even) con mob, I counted 12 misses during one fight and it wasn't even a boss. Its amazing how a game can make you scream and curse at it because how actually crappy it really is.
I know about all the enhancements but come on, you shouldn't miss that bad and force you to get all accuracy enchancements just so you don't go on huge missing sprees and ultimately die from it, also one thing that surprised me and that CoH seems to have forced grouping (which I hate) where as CoV doesn't at all, i'm still enjoying city of villians and my brute is now lvl 15.
The problem I see is that all the hero classes are terribly unbalanced, the heros 'tanker' isn't a match at all for the villians brute, the villians brute is excellent all around in hit points, defense and offense, where as the tanker is only mediocre in offense, so in pvp a tanker vs brute my money would firmly be on the brute. Now what I can tell they have tried to counter-balance it with the heroes epic peacemakers and warshades, however you need a lvl 50 to unlock them and what I can tell, to reach lvl 50 with any character would be an epic feat, especially without constant grouping or a very very good guild.
The lack of balanced units can sure kill a game quick!
COH got my attention, but I just cant do the monthly fee thing for gaming [my reason for avoiding MMOs]. Wish COH had included a single player campaign.
You should try it sometime just to get a taste ET. I still probably will go back to WoW to see some of the stuff I have not viewed or completed.
I enjoyed GW when it first came out and it ate up months without a fee. I still may pick up factions....anyone here have it?

I was still contemplating finding a cracked WoW server just to play through the game for the single-player experience. Maybe in a few months, I'll throw a few bucks into another 6 months of WoW. Realistically though, once NWN2 hits, I probably wouldn't even bother with either. I'm much too focused on downloading TV series (Stargate, Lost, Battlestar Gallactic, and Sopranos). That in itself eats up the majority of my time.

I tried Titan Quest earlier but i'm already uninstalled it since its very unstable and crashes many many times, and one of the crashes corrupted my save game so i'm going to wait for some much needed patches for that, I cancelled my CoH sub already lol and i'm playing a free trial of 'The Matrix Online' just because its free, the state of mmos today isn't very good, i'm loathed to get GW: Factions after ncsoft messing up the original, and besides ncsoft isn't doing very well financially and laid off a huge amount of its workforce.
Basically, i'm just waiting for Phantasy Star: Universe, NWN2 and Star Trek Online, there about the only games i'm interested in. I hate to say it but these days I find my interest in games steadily declining due to poor/buggy products being released.
Understand that....kind of why I am in no mmo's right now. I am enjoying Thief 3 though...it is not perfect but I think it got a worse rep than it deserved. Hard to live up to the penticle that this series has created but still it is very good and far better than a ton of games I been trying to enjoy.

COH/COV isn't a bad game you do need to add some Accuracy Enhancers and by the time you are lvl 20 or so and using SOs you shouldn't see any problems. The biggest problem with COH/COV in my opinion is it gets boring as the game play gets slower and slower. I mean the time to level. So at lvl 35-45 you do the missions with the same mobs over and over and over to just get one level. It gets boring. The game is still a lot of fun but it just becomes boring even if it is fun :)
I don't think I ever broke 40 for any of my characters but I have numberous characters in the mid 30s.

Hey how is Matrix Online today? I played it when it was released and it was interesting and a lot more involved then I expected however it was buggy and the combats were so laggy they were almost unplayable. Nothing like dying cause you can't move...

I didn't like it lol I played like 3 hours or so then got bored with it, to me, it still seems like a beta. Lots of bugs and the character development is confusing, plus it has the same problems that plague many mmos, and thats 14 year old kids wanting to pk/duel and usually 20+ levels higher, I was around level 5 and some lvl 30 or so guy wanted a duel. lol
I played a few free mmos today and all of them sucked, I was playing space cowboy and it sucked but its just out of the alpha stage so its at least got that excuse, and hey, its free to play so obviously you're not going to get anything high quality from free mmos.
Have you checked out that mud for free? It is actually pretty cool..

So far, i've been playing a free 7 day trial of R.O.S.E online and so far, its not too bad. My soldier character hit level 13 in just over 2 hours. It could be better, but i've played far far worse.
As for buggy games, honestly I see more and more buggy releases lately, aparently the latest Outrun 2006 coast to coast is so buggy it refuses to work on most comps, seems to hate athlon 64s, ATi cards and Audigy cards.
In some ways, I think there should be some laws or legislation put in place to stop alpha releases of obviously seriously bugged software, since right now, the average consumer has little to no rights when it comes to computer software, quite a lot of games are released that the developers and producers know that some of there games are not ready for general release, but they do it anyway and get away with it, time and time again. This is whats slowly killing the game industry, not pirates or hacking groups. People are slowly wising up and are less and less prepaired to spend $50 or so on a game that potentially might not be compatable with their system.
