It's bad enough that the old "System Wars" forum has now been morphed into a pansy "General Discussion" board, where you can talk about Justin Timberlake's hairstyle and still be on-topic. To top that, now the whole friggin' thing revolves around seeing who plug the most retarded and annoying graphics into their post so that reading a thread causes your monitor to look like Bourbon Street the day after Mardi Gras.

I'm literally jaw-dropped in disbelief. I would have glady bet you a new car that introducting all this graphics crap would cause the System Wars crew to rip to shreds anyone lame enough to abuse it (maybe the reason this hasn't happened is because most of them haven't migrated here yet and can't decide if the even want to bother). Instead, there are actually a large number of posts about how great this muck is:

- Hey there Mr. Admin, is there any possible way that you can turn off size restrictions on avatars? The system won't allow me to add an avatar that takes up half the page! Let me use my avatar please oh please oh please oh pleeeeeeeze!

- Hey everyone, do you think my animated Sonic avatar is too fast? Yuk, yuk!" (<i>Editor's Note: The only thing more lame than an avatar is an animated avatar... and the only thing more lame than that is cracking bad jokes about it. If there were a God in heaven, He would grant me five minutes alone with you... so I could lodge a Sega GameGear in your rectum, while your mom watches through a glass window)</i>

- Hey folks, do you like this crappy Photoshop'ed photo of "half-me/half-cartoon" that takes up the half your screen? Awesome, in that case I'll make it my signature so you can see it with <b><i>EVERY SINGLE POST I MAKE!!!</i></b>

- Yeah, that was pretty annoying... but nowhere NEAR as annoying as this shot of roadkill painted over by a D.O.T. crew. You know, the photo that's been around for over four years now and that everyone on the planet has had emailed to then at least a dozen times. 'Cause it just keeps getting funnier and funnier each time! I went ahead and make sure that it takes up over half your screen as well.

- Hey everyone, this is your friendly neighborhood admin here! I'm sensing that some of you are disappointed, that this new forum system doesn't provide <b><i>quite</i></b> enough flexibility to let you fulfill your total potential for annoyance. Don't worry! Actually, I only enabled about 10% of the annoyance-tools that are available... I didn't want to overwhelm people with possibilities during the launch. As soon as the novelty wears off and people go back to talking about video games (gasp!), I'll get the party started again by going into the admin console and enabling a fresh batch of annoyance-tools! <i>(Editor's Note: MIDI sounds, QuickTime movie clips, and a "Rumble Pack" browser plug-in that causes people's monitors to shake when they read your posts... I can't wait! Memo from reality, the old forums were fine the way they were.)</i>

Can someone PLEASE explain this graphics-mania that's going on here. In the old System Wars forum, GameCube guys get little respect from Xbots because the system is "too childish" with "inferior graphics". Then those same people come in here and have a field day with childish graphics that look like they were created with monkeys using crayons. PLEASE tell me that this is some kind of temporary delusion, like disco... and within a week the fad will have played itself out and everyone will laugh about this.

quit whining. I like having a pic in sig and avatar. Don't let one or 2 morons ruin everything for you.

Ehh, I just found out how to completely disable viewing of avatars and attachments (I didn't even know this was an option)... so I'm not really that frustrated about it anymore, now that I don't have to look at it. Still, I'll be happy when people get the novelty out of their system... so that the discussion will stop revolving around graphic attachments.

... and with that, I'll stop contributing to the problem myself.

Well...humble as I am, I shall grant this superhuman...or should I say...avatar...a few minutes of my not so precious time. If ye were Admin sir, I would gracefully change my <i>too fast for your taste</i> avatar...or should I say...animated GIF, into a slower, maybe even static version of one of my favorite video game characters. And about the GameGear...didn't you read the instruction manual that came with it ? It's meant for playing videogames...or should I say...playing handheld videogames...and NOT the act which you obviously hold high in your list of favorite passtimes.

P.S. Please spare me the I use too many...or should I say ...

I remember when we were both on 56k. The boards actually seemed faster back then.

Well...hopefully my fast avatar makes up for my slow mental capacity
and slow dial-up connection...maybe it's time for me to upgrade to
whatever connection you're using

But NOT that freaky looking one he's using for a sig...
or the one with the regurgitaing smilie...

... but the one with that lumbering monster doll (or whatever the heck it is)! Man, that one's great!

I guess I'm kind of warming up to all these little doo-hickey's.
Seeing as how that's all there is to do now, without a System Wars!
Without all of these strange little animations and images, I'd be bored out of my mind!

Yeah, Sonic could boost up the speed of anything. Even a 28 k user with a Sonic avatar could be switched to 128 k. ;)

I'm on cable but trust me, you won't want my connection. I can't download big files which sort of defeats the purpose of having a cable connection.

Is it your ethernet card?

Slade strikes me as someone smart enough to know if a slow cable connection is caused by something on his end. I'm thinking he probably just has a low tier connection plan.

Heh, yeah I remember we talked about that. Two ethernet cards later and no, it wasn't a problem with the card. The manufacturer of this computer can't give me any answers either and the ISP is sure as hell not cooperating. I've had DSL service as well and that hasn't helped either. All in all, I've resigned myself to having this crappy problem.

P.S. There's no cap on downloads with this service.

Alright, here we go..get to do my old job again.

You know its not the ethernet card, you've gone through 2 ISP's and you're still getting a slow connection. First off I'm guessing you live in a pretty old neighborhood or you're out in the middle of the boondocks. Secondly what OS are you using, have you reinstalled it since you went to broadband?

Also, have you gotten your ISP to test your lines for noise and signal strength? If you've asked and they haven't been out there yet then threaten to sue their asses..that'll get em out there pretty fast.

I live in pretty new neighborhood. In fact, they're still building half of the crescent I live on. This wouldn't be a problem though because the old house I was in had the same problem and it wasn't an old neighborhood.

I've gone through WinXP and Win98, reinstalled multiple times, and still no fix. Done the thing with the ISP too. Signal Strength is fine, in fact my signal strength is probably the best the ISP offers. And yeah, they've sent people here to test my computer.

hmm...okay. When you went to DSL for a sec did you switch from cable then back to it again afterwords? If you did, did you use the same cable modem both times? It's possible that you could've gotten 2 bad modems...it's crappy luck but weirder things have happened.

Also, when they came out to test the line did they do it from the computer or did they take the cheapass lazy way out and only test it at the drop? Oh yeah, have you tried your connection with another computer before? Could be an IRQ conflict with your ethernet card and something else in your comp (this is doubtful with XP though) or some other fugged up hardware conflict. Also, how much are you paying and what SHOULD your connection be giving you?

Hell, you live in Canada don't you? Could be polar bears or those sneaky eskimos...

I'm sure you've heard this crap about a thousand times before but I know some of these cable guys are lazy as hell and won't do what needs to be done...all your problems could be caused by something small thats been overlooked.
