Long name.

Even longer post.

Really, all I want to talk about is the multi-player maps that I've seen so far. Never before have I seen such original design, the creativeness is almost overwhelming to someone like me who had never even heard of user-created maps until about a year ago.

Yes I know, I'm console-stupid, and user-creations have probably been around since the earliest days on the PC. Bite me.

Anyways, back to the maps. I've downloaded some stinkers, but the majority of the maps can hold their own against the pre-created multi-player maps that come with the game, and then there are some that go way beyond anything I would've even thought possible.

Like these below:

the DogBowl- there is this guy who's part of his name is Dog(I can't remember the full name) and he makes large-scale maps that are good for Steal the Sample and other team-based games. Dog Mountain is a big old hollowed-out volcano, and DogBowl is a replica of a football field. Insane detail went into this one. Endzones, uprights, crowd seating and vehicle mayhem!

Field of Dog- another one by the Dog guy. This one is a small redneck town with a little-league baseball field thrown in the park area. Great for Chaos, and not much else.

SkyRace/Skyrace Inforno- I don't know who made these two, but I'm sure glad I got to download them! Basically, the stage boils down to you jumping in a vehicle and trying to get to the top of the course as fast as you can so you can blow up everyone else below that's trying to get up to where you are. It's an uphill(created with only wooden walkways) climb that's filled with hairpin turns, jumps, and the person on top trying to take you down, plus the people down below trying to climb up. You fall off, you die. There are also no extra weapons except for the ones that are on the top of the level which include sniper guns, rockets, molotovs and pipe bombs.

Luxor- Egyptian theme to the max. Pyramids and Sphinx created from the ground up. Stupid-impressive stage design on this level. Above and below-ground fighting. Pretty.

D-Day- Holy smokes, I haven't even played this map with anyone, but I did walk through it and it's almost an exact replica of the battle on the beach. If you're on the Blue Team, you first have to cross the water on a boat, then you storm the beach and climb the cliffs, then you rush the enemy stronghold. This map screams team battles. To hell with Call of Duty, this map ownz. With a Z, even.

Crystal Lake- Isn't that from Friday the 13th? I dunno. Medium-sized map that's good for Chaos. Lots of sniping points, lush ground for stalking. Suburban battle and open-field carnage abound.

Those are just about half of the maps that I have DL'd, because I can't remember the other ones, but you can already see the variety in the maps as far as gameplay options. It doesn't have to be just run-and-gun, for instance...

...I just finished my second map today. My first one is iffy, but not a bad start. 8 tall points of land to start off with nothing but a glider to get to the bottom(2 glider points also have ladders that go to the tops for some Steal the Sample). Also I included some tall skinny points of land randomly that way people will have to maneuver their gliders with a little bit of caution. They can be landed on, but can't be jumped off of. On 4 of the glider points, there are zip lines that lead to the middles of other glider points, making for good sniping areas, and from the mids are also zip lines to the bottom of the map. The lines are stretched nicely so they can be caught onto if you fall or let go of your gliders up high, but that won't happen often. At the bottom, it's rolling hills with some watery area that's great for driving in a hovercraft(4), if you can avoid the trees(you can). On the glider points are sniper rifles and mortar shooters that hit random land spots, and on the ground there are automatics all over the place.

My new baby is something totally different. I was thinking about the SkyRace levels and how to do something that was vehicle-based, and then it hit me. ATV Offroad Fury! So that's what I created. A map made only for four-wheeler races. All of the land is elevated, so if you fall, you'll have to start at the beginning because you can't climb up to the top on your wheeler or on foot(done intentionally). The only way back to the beginning is to grenade yourself, and luckily, I put grenades in every possible area so it's not possible to get stuck. There is fence generously placed throughout the course that way you know which direction to go and also to keep you from falling off the course and ending your race(which happened to me a jillion times before I decided to put up fence), but there are still plenty of chances to choke the big one. There are jumps, risky shortcuts, tons of rough terrain, and eight 4-wheelers to race against. There is also a little area that I allowed so if people wanted, they can walk along the outside of the course(elevated) and check out the lay of the land, watch others race, or make people wreck. I might put some sniper rifles or rockets there just to make things interesting. No other weapons except for starting pistols, and only 50% health. Racing is the reason that this map was created. I don't expect many people to race, but it sure is fun to be able to make something like this and then be able to play it.

So, anyone have any favorite maps they'd like to share? It's been a while since I've played Halo 2 online, but they got some great maps, especially if there are more than ten people in a room. Doom 3 maps were pretty gay. No open areas(Duh, it's on Mars!), and only eight players max in a room(I played with no more than 4 when I had the game). Booo. ANyone have Battlefield 2? How're the maps on that game?

I just noticed how big the maps are in terms of HDD space. 4 MB. That's it.

100 maps doesn't even equal half a gig of memory space!

Yup. I guess I'll just use this thread to post about the new maps I make, or something.

So now I made the best 2 maps that the world has ever seen, but no one wants to join my rooms. They're too busy playing the pre-made maps that come with the game. Jerk-O's

No, the maps I talked about in the first post are not the best maps in the world.

The first new one that I made is simple. (title: Cuddly's Pass---inspiration: Gila Wilderness in the southwest corner of New Mexico) Start at the beach, and work your way up to the top of the mountain. There is a lot of variety in the environment for close-quarter combat and sniper-action. It starts people off on a tiny island, then they have to swim ten-ish feet across the rio to get to the beach where there is little to protect you from snipers in the hills except for a few rocks and some sunken watery land. Right past the beach is a fence that stretches across the whole length of the map, with only two entrances near the left side. The exit is on the far right, so you'll have to jump on a 4-wheeler to get across quickly before getting sniped. On the other side of the fence are rolling hills with a lot of greens and some old buildings that were once used to house people that worked on a refinery that is now rusting away by the elements. Near the housing are some raised decks that are great for duking it out up close with boomsticks. Beyond that are mountains. Some can be climbed, some can be walked around to the top, and some can only be accessed by bridges or ladders. Pipes stick out in areas, maybe once being used by the refinery when it was functioning. Also, if you explore, you might find some caves and a path behind the high mesa. There are two ways around the region that'll lead you to the ladder that takes you to the top of the world. One on the right, one on the left. One is good for sneaking by, the other is quicker, but leaves you more open to headshots. Once you climb the ladder to the top(it takes a long-assed 1:18, leaving you open to snipes and rockets), you'll have full access to rockets, snipes, Molotovs, and a glider. There are is also a useless sniper tower and a zip line to the beach. It's really a good idea to zip or glide down and reposition yourself somewhere in the hill/mountain area to get a good location for sniping chumps. This map is great for Chaos, Team Chaos, and Seek and Secure.

I guess the second map is also simple, because it's simply one thing. (Title: Silent Hill--Inspiration: Silent Hill 2) :) The whole world of Silent Hill 2, simplified of course. Two versions. One is daytime, no fog. The other is nightime, full fog effects and ambient noises. FYI, The best map that no one will ever play.:(

Dude, what is with you and that game? I see you playing that 24/7. Why there was a couple of days last week where I swear I saw you on it for, like, 36 hours hours straight. Dayum.

I recently purchased Far Cry but haven't played it a whole lot. GRAW and other titles keep pulling me away.

Anywho, I should jump on one of these nights to check out your maps. Can I download them and play with bots or do I have to join in an online multiplayer session? I think it would be more fun to DL it and walk around and check them out slowly rather than being thrust into a fight right away.

Dayum.
LOL. I am on for mad hours at a time, but not neccessarily doing anything. If you've read the first few posts, you'll see that a lot of the time spent is in the map editor. When you're in the editor, you can make stuff, and then put yourself inside the map to see how it looks while playing in first-person. When I make my maps, I design a basic area, then go into first-person to test out size and possibilities for improvement. All of my maps are full-sized, but each one has different play areas, so it's like designing three or four mini-maps. Silent Hill was a monster. I had to rebuild the foundation five times before I was satisfied with how it felt. I still didn't get to do everything that I wanted, but I can always add more.:)

Anyways, to get back on topic, 3/4 of the time is spent making and tweaking the maps, and the other quarter is spent online trying to get people to DL my maps. There are always games going on Far Cry Live, but getting people to leave the rooms they're in to come into my room is the problem. I can get a coupla people in my room sometimes, but there is never enough fighting going on to keep them here. They go where the action is. When no one is around and I get tired of praising my maps, I just let the game sit on its own to let people DL if they want to join while I browse the net or play Guitar Hero, and that's why you see me on for hours at a time.

That brings me to Five
Can I download them and play with bots or do I have to join in an online multiplayer session? I think it would be more fun to DL it and walk around and check them out slowly rather than being thrust into a fight right away. I don't even know if Far Cry has bots. Does it? Anyways, anytime you see me online in Far Cry, just join my room or send me a message and I'll throw you an invite to my game. From there you automatically DL any maps that I throw out to play. You can even hang in my room for a while and check them out, since no one is really ever on them. Most of the maps are quick to DL.

Maybe you Tikkie and I could get some weak-sauced deathmatch going when you guys get tired of tactical action(maybe never with the new maps coming out for GRAW). It's a really fun game with lots of carnage when you get more than five people gaming. It's almost a neccessity to have more than a couple of people on my maps since they are so big and varied.

What does my status say when I'm on Far Cry? Does it ever say anything other than me being in Chaos?
