Call me bitter, but i m still wrapped around this whole wiing the ps3. Hey it just means the ps3 would have more fun games with this involved. But can anyone tell me how they can legally do this? i thought there was some sort of patenting stuff Nintendo would of done?

Microsoft keeps bragging about how they introduced this into games first 6 years ago in their controller, what does that make it 2000? Well hmm watch this video...

Sony didn't steal anything from Nintendo. The whole concept for the Sony controller was around back in 1999 with some sort of PC pad. Don't remember the exact story. Anyway, Sony did copy someone, it just wasn't Nintendo.

All they need to do is not use the same technology. Read the patent, see what it states, and come up with a solution that has the same effect but a different approach.

And yes, the PC games have had motion-sensing game pads for years. Actually, looking back at the article, it was even before the PS2 came out!

It's not the same technology or the same effect as far as I can tell. . . it isn't motion sensitive. It seems more like the tilt sensor in the Warioware Twisted GBA cartridges.

Sony may not have stolen the technology, but only a fool would believe they didn't stick this technology in their as a response to Nintendo, as a way to try to be able to say "hey, why bother with them, we do all this other stuff, and if you want some new control stuff, we got that too."

Not a bad idea for Sony.

whatever i guess its all b*tch b*tch b*tch on my part.

Every company is making their decisions based on their individual circumstance.
Sony can charge $600 cuz their sony, the leading competitor, with the most 3rd party support.
Nintendo cant directly compete against sony, it'll be sucicide, so they are taking a different apporach looking for other untouched markets.

Well I have to admit, it's not exactly the same, yes it's more like tilt than actual motion. I believe it only had 3 axes rather than the 6 axes the PS3 controller will have.

It was mainly for sim games. I never got one since at the time I had turned my back on sims already, and besides it was never available here.

Ho, I'm not contesting that! Everyone knows it was Sony's response to the Wii.

It's a totally valid complaint. It's hard to have any respect for a market follower, copycat. . .and patent infringing thieves.

I hope they fall on their faces and more games migrate away.

Wah wah wah.

Look, I hate Sony - everybody should know I hate the company - but I just don't understand how this could be so upsetting. I look around this room... this house... outside the window... and I see evidence of copying everywhere! That's life!

And btw, Sony's doing the same to MS, their Playstation Network (or whatever they want to call it) is going to look like a veritable clone of Xbox Live. But you don't see the xbots getting upset do you? Shoot, you don't even see the Nintendo execs getting upset. I've read comments by Iwata and Myamato, and the gist of their response is flattery.

What Sony is doing makes perfect sense. Get over it.

You know what I think, I think you guys are upset about something else. You're not upset about copy right infringements, or who gets credit for what original idea, you're upset about... well I don't know what - I never understood the kitty mentality.

It could all be backlash over the revelation that the machine's going to cost $600. People are (probably) so upset about that, and knowing they probably won't be able to afford one right away, and probably trying to rationalize in any way why they wouldn't want to buy a PS3 anyway.

Not really all that surprising. I want this new piece of technology, but I can't afford it, so I'll act like I don't want in anyway.

Yeah, I know. I don't think anyone is really upset. . .personally I miss the occasional impassioned old systems war style venomous post.

Ripping off Xbox Live and Nintendo's controller, how can anyone get truly upset when that's Sony's modus operandi? They lost their controller lawsuit against Immersion because they flat out ripped off a patented product. Hell, even the name "Playstation" they ripped off from Nintendo. Sony's newly renewed copy-cat tactics aren't something to get upset about, but they should lessen any respect anyone still held for this company.

Yeah, I hear ya.

See, again, I don't think so. We gotta get that word "copy" out of there, before I can agree with you.

That said, the move to this new controller did lessen my "respect" for them even more. (Respect is not the right word at all tho' - how can you respect somebody you loathe? On a scale of 1-100, I gave Sony, overrall, a -10 grade - before this latest move - now they're at -12.) But the thing that hurts them in my eyes is the elimination of a rumble feature. And everything that lead up to it. I said it before, what a colossal blunder!!! I don't think you guys realize how bad that is going to hurt gaming experiences.(!)

And while I'm on the subject, I'll tell you soemthing else, there is no where to plug anything into the controller. Aside from the charging cord. There's no where to plug in a rumble pak add-on (should they ever get the genius idea of making one in the future); and no where to plug in a headset-communicator. Look:

The company's gone friggin' stupid!

$600... pfffft! For what?! The PS3 is going to get it's azz kicked! Mark my words.

Sorry for "editing" your post Gadfly. I didn't, really. I'm still getting used to these extra mod buttons at my disposal, and simply clicked on the wrong one. (I swear I could delete 1500 years of human history with the simple click of button here. Okay not really, but...) Anyways, I think I've restored everything back to normal. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm still disappointed that Sony chose the same Dual Shock (will it be Dual Tilt, now?) look. Talk about a lack of imagination.....

I would rather have the Batarang than the Dual Tilt. At least the thing would help me fight crime in case someone is watching some crap on my gaming tv.

I can't believe they still haven't figured out that the analogue sticks needs to be offset. They way they are position is so uncomfortable I hate it. Always have.

Can you imagine Metal Gear without vibration MGS1 innovated the dual shock like no one else that was the game that made me get a dual shock and probably a lot of other people as well.

Agreed and done. "Copy" is a succesful duplication. "Mimick" is a better word choice, mein editor. Thanks for calling me to task there.

At this point, no headset or charging cord isn't the worst of it. . . I'd have to go with Drunken Cokemaster, it's the damn thumbsticks being right next to each other again. It is just a plain, simple, common fact that this is NOT an ergonomically correct design for the human hands, thus why BOTH of the other guys last gen put the thumbsticks offset.

THAT took me back. It's weird that the game doesn't do it for me anymore. I was so into that game it was unbelievable. As distant as I feel from Sony now, I was a massive fan of the Ps1.

We all have things we get sick of. I have no idea why I'm not sick of Mario again (I was once before.) Fat plumber with a John Holmes Mustache whose girlfriend is banging a literal reptile, abuses psychedic drugs to make himself feel BIG, likes to hang out in sewers and kill things. . . what's not to hate? Wait. Maybe that's why I still tolerate that buttpounding mafioso.
