View Full Version : Happy 6 months!

Yesterday the 360 turned 6 months old.
6 months from now, the PS3 and Wii are due to arrive.

This being a halfway point of sorts, I'd like to turn our full attention to these "next-gen" consoles and think about what it is exactly we want to get from them, or see from the next-generation of gaming.

For me, it's pretty much the same as last gen.
Seriously. I'm still looking for Road Rash. I'm still looking for Cyberball on Xbox Live. (Though, supposedly, that is coming soon.) I'm still looking for Incredible Technologies to wake up and put out a Golden Tee Golf game, complete with Xbox Live play and a real-life, high-quality track-ball controller.(!) I'd pay $300 for that, IT!

I'm still looking for Burgertime and Pengo and Mappy. How perfect they would be for Xbox Live Arcade! Come on, where are the arcade classics?! Xbox Live Arcade needs more arcade classics!

We are getting Ms. tho', so that's cool. (Can scratch that one off the list too.)

You know what else would be great for Xbox Live Arcade? Alien Hominid. Those... #@$%es... they skipped over the Xbox last-gen (the dumbazz publishers released an XB version in the UK only)! I think XLA and The Behemoth would make a perfect couple.

There is another game I want to see on 360, that I might be getting: Culdcept. The game was announced for the system, but the trailer they put out over XLA was more damaging than it was inspiring. Still, I'm crossing my fingers.

Halo 3, Forza 2, Fable 2, I obviously want - and will obviously get.

Crimson Skies 2 and MechAssault 3, I obviously want - but their future is uncertain. Why?!

I sure would love to see Lorne Lanning do another Oddworld game. But apparently that request will not likely be met this generation. That's not what this thread is about tho', and with that: I want Oddworld 4!

Another game I'm unlikely to see, but want to see real bad: Links. MS sold off the studio responsible for the franchise to Take-Two a couple of years ago - and they recently shut her down completely (same team was responsible for the Amped games). Boo hoo hoo. :( :( :( I want Links!!!

I also want to see Brute Force 2. [... ... waiting for everyone to stop laughing... ...]
[.... ...still waiting... ...]
Seriously.
[... ...waiting again... ...]
Come on, the game was not that bad. It was dissapointing, yes. But still a good game. We need to remember why exactly it was dissapointing tho': it was dissapointing, mainly, because it was not Xbox Live enabled - when so many games were coming out at the same time that were - that was inexcusable. And they took forever to finish it. So what were they doing?! The game was also shallow. But it was technically solid, and it looked good, sounded good, and played great. It was very close to being a great game - it just needed more... substance. A story. A ship to explore and do things on, besides just sit and watch cutscenes of the characters standing on the bridge. And some RPG-elements would be nice too. Things easily fixed! Come on, Digital Anvil, get on it! Digital Anvil, hello? What happened to them?

If I would've made this post just a couple of weeks ago I might've asked for something like Live Anywhere. But I doubt it; I'm not that clever. So at this point all I can ask for is 1) that it works just like I hope it will, and 2) that it comes out ASAP!

Another biggie that I want to see: Oblivion 2, or Elder Scrolls V: whatever. Whatever they want to call it, whatever angle they want to pursue with it, I don't care - I just don't want to wait a whole 'nother generation for it! They need to stick with this one - and fix all the frickin bugs on Oblivion!!! That's all I ask.

But the thing that I most want to see is: Knights of the Old Republic III ! These multi-core processors are just what KOTOR I and KOTOR II needed - now we got them... now we just need the game! Where is the game? Where is news of the game? Where's a whisper of the game? My heart will absolutely freaking break if they don't come out with a KOTOR III. Come on Lucas! And Obsidian can do it (it doesn't have to be BioWare) that's perfectly fine; they did a great job on II. PLEASE!

And, if wishes were fishes - which they are in this thread - then I want all of the above to come out on the 360. I'm sticking with just the one system this time around. Or that's the plan anyway.

Except with KOTOR III, I'm not going to be picky on that detail - I will buy whatever system they release it for.

Me, what I am looking for:

PS3 - the Japanese franchises that were on Sony's machine for the past 2 gens

XBox 360 - not much I am looking forward to here at the moment

PC - most of the good stuff that's on the 360 that is also on the PC, and many of the PC exclusive games as well especially FPS.

Nintendo - I want that controller!!!

Another biggie that I want to see: Oblivion 2, or Elder Scrolls V: whatever. Whatever they want to call it, whatever angle they want to pursue with it, I don't care - I just don't want to wait a whole 'nother generation for it! Fat chance. We will probably see TESV about 4 years from now, near the end of the lifespan of the 360. Maybe 5 years from now. However it will have a whole slew of new bugs in it, for sure; it will have an entirely new engine so that's why it will have a ton load of new bugs. And we can look forward to it dumbed down even more from TESIV, with probably an even smaller but more detailed and more beautiful game world.

But the thing that I most want to see is: Knights of the Old Republic III ! These multi-core processors are just what KOTOR I and KOTOR II needed - now we got them...

Why exactly does KOTOR need multi processors?

Anyway I bet KOTOR III comes out on XBox 360 and PC, so you shouldn't have any problems.

What I want from MS is pretty much everything Glock said, plus I want Panzer Dragoon Orta to be b/c.

From Sony, I just don't know. I'm tired of Gran Turismo and Metal Gear. I guess what I want from Sony is the third parties like Namco, Nippon Ichi and every other third party to also put out their stuff on either the Wii or 360 so I won't need a Ps3.

From Wii, I want to see Nintendo win some decent third party support, and to see gamers--all gamers, and not just Nintendo's faithful--support those titles. I want to see a more diverse fanbase that includes all types of gamers, and the kind of diverse line-up that will attract them.

I want to see Shigeru bust out at least one more brilliant new idea that utilizes online in a way online has never been utilized, along with a twisted new control scheme. I want to see the seeds of at least three totally new big franchises from Nintendo.

I want to see some of the new handheld franchises get big, beautiful Wii versions.

I want to see another Pikmin and Animal Crossing

I want to see Kid Icarus resurrected, as well as Pilot Wings.

I want to see a low price on the games on Nintendo's download service, and to see a full roster of old third party games, including Act Raiser.

I want to see Spore show up on the Wii, even though I'll probably also buy the PC version.

But all that is secondary; what we know we are getting within the first six months is enough for me to make the leap and buy the console--and most of these are slated for launch: Zelda Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime: Corruption, Trauma Center, Red Steel, Wii Sports, Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and Excite Truck top the list.

There's also some other cool games announced with non-specific release time period: Project H.A.M.M.E.R., Donkey Kong, Fire Emblem, Tony Hawk, Metal Slug Anthology (with free-hand control), and Elebits

Six months already?! Damn, time flies on XBOX Live...

Anyways, for the 360, I'm looking for an updated b/c list. All of my favorites are still MIA. Stranger's Wrath, Silent Hill 4, The Warriors, and PDO are no where to be found.

As far as the systems are concerned, I'm pumped for all of the sequels that will be coming out eventually. Ninja Gaiden 2, DMC4, RE5, SH5, MP3, Exite Truck, Duck Hunt, Rayman Wii, Twilight Princess, MGS: Guns, Tekken PS3, Halo 3, SC: DA, and many more.

New apps are fine and dandy, but I do loves me my classics reborn.

Good thread, Thanos.

KOTOR III is being developed in-house by LucasArts. Lucas recently consolidated ILM's CG and LucasArt's CG divisions so they can share resources/technology. A friend of mine who worked on the SW Prequels told me that word is KOTOR III is going to be multi platform.

And Otogi 2. For b/c.

Like slade said in another thread, there is really nothing for the fans of action/adventure games like Ninja gaiden and DMC3 on the next gen systems. That's what I'm hoping for.

I'm looking forward to a lot of stuff. Typical stuff like Rainbow6 Vegas. Rainbow6 was such an important title to XBX LIVE and though GRAW has been good, I look forward to Rainbow having even more enemies even more agressive AI, and I can't wait to get back the first person perspective with a gun view. The coordinated tactics should bring back old times on LIVE. Ditto for Splinter Cell, I don't really look forward to the sp campaign as much as I do the return of spies v. mercs. Forza2 and MS' brand new spankin wheel are gonna be hot, with separate motors for rumble and true force feedback, one of the sweetest looking wheels for one of the sweetest simulations, sorry PS3 fans gotta wait till '07 or '08 for GT5, but at least Polyphony will have something to copy. 12 cars on LIVE is great too, not 16, but certainly better than 8.

Of course there is Gears of War, with a heavy emphasis on cover, concealment, and tactical shooting, this should be great a sci-fi shooter with military tactical action, its about time, after all Aliens is how old?

Mass Effect! As much as I enjoy Oblivion, I think the Bioware boys are much better at RPGs especially multi-character rpgs. Set in a whole different type of environment and with luscious 360 graphics. Who said the best 360 games are on the PC, somebody spoke way to soon.

FEAR and GTR. After Condemned which was savaged in the review circles, seeing how FEAR review scores are just about the same I figure this game must be great too. And GTR probably the best PC racer coming to 360. You truly get the best of all worlds on 360. This should be great online and great with that wheel.

There are a lot of other games such as Chrome Hounds and some stuff from japan, but that stuff is so hit and miss I can't really project how its gonna turn out. The Gundam game, Blue Dragon, Resident Evil and the other Capcom project. We will see. Of course there is Too Human which has been knocked around a bit by critics. Oh and sitting out there in the beginning of 2007 Halo3, might be a decent game.

I'm also looking forward to the Wii. I think it'll be great with the kids. I would be absolutely down with HD resolution support, but if the fun factor is legit I'll have to support it.

PS3...see u in late 2007...u need a little bit more time in the oven baby.

For Wii, pretty much what has already been announced is cool, but I really want to see a faithful translation of Advance Wars, with online play. Pikmin 3 with online play. And, of course, a Mario Kart Wii with online play.

If the 360 got Crimson Skies 2 and Mech Assault 3, that would certainly sweeten the deal.

PS3 ain't gonna happen, unless a game so amazing comes out that I can't live without it, but the chances of that are pretty extreme.

For the DS, I want a new Fire Emblem DS, complete with online play and Wii Fire Emblem connectivity stuff. I also really want Rogue Squadron 64 with online head to head battles. Plus, I would be happy if Blizzard decided to make Starcraft DS, Diablo DS, and Warcraft DS.

But, most of all, I want Sid Meier to make a kickass Civilization DS.

If we're doing next gen wishes on the handhelds (and still consider PsP and DS next gen) then yes, Starcraft is still tops on my wishlist for handheld. BUT, I now want it to be turned based rather than RTS, and I'm no longer sold on it necessarily needing to be a DS title. . . it might actually be better on the PsP, more dramatic with better sound and voice acting.

nooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Everytime you give me bad news, Zilla, this will be the recurring theme to a reply post.

LucasArts as a publisher is great. They did Mercs, Battlefronts I & II, and Indiana Jones. LucasArts as a developer, really, really suck. RTX Red Rock anyone? What about SW Bounty Hunter? Unless they have some guys there who actually have some form of talent, I will pass on KOTOR III, Indy Jones and any LucasArts' developed game.

-

What I want to see/get from the new gen:

Xbox 360: Just keep on giving me some great western rpgs and give me some titles throughout the entire year like Xbox did.

PS3: More reasons for me to get this system. Two games (Mercs 2, Heavenly Sword) are already on my PS3 list, but I want to see more exclusives that will give me a reason to not wait too long for a price drop.

Wii: I'm not expecting much from Wii, since I don't care for Nintendo's franchises. I am curious to see how long 3rd party devs & publishers will make exclusive games for the system.

As far as games, I want to see a next-gen Road Rash, preferrably made by EA Canada (NFS guys) since it's EA's property. More 3rd person shooters, less 1st person shooters, unless you can change your point of view at will. More western rpgs, and less turn-based combat in Japanese rpgs. I want to see the real cost of making a PS3 or 360 game. I also want to see Buffy the Vampire Slayer become b/c.

Uh oh. You guys better check out this quote from an interview with MS Game Guy Shane Kim:

IGN: So what happened to Crimson Skies, Brute Force, and MechAssault? Are we going to see those games making a comeback on next-generation systems?

Shane: Um, I don't know. You might see them coming from another publisher. We don't have any plans right now to publish new versions of those titles. Are those a few of your personal favorites?

IGN: Crimson Skies was a lot of fun. I enjoyed MechAssault too.

That Sounds like a "no" if I ever heard one. As Glocky would say, "What the *bleep*?!" How the hell can you just dump two of your best franchises? First dropping Oddworld for Blinx 2 and now this. Sometimes I just don't get the MS gaming strategy. :(

Or at least two franchises that gamers who aren't FPS, Racers, or Sports games obsessed would be interested in.
